Although I was booted 3 hours out from impact (newly returned, lowest server priority); I managed to watch the last hours tick by through other players feeds. So thank you to those very generous and forward-thinking people!

Thank you SE for delivering a visceral and impactful (pun-intended) finale CS worthy of the monumental shift the game now faces. Before today I was certain that this event signaled closure for me regarding FFXIV... but after today's festivities, I'm almost certain I will be back for ARR...

Was anyone NOT booted? As far as I'm concerned we were all booted and directed to the site to watch the video. Am I wrong? Did this video play from in the game?

No it didn't. You either had to go to the lodestone site, visit the youtube channel, or click the link in the launcher that sent you to the lodestone site. I spent my remaining moments overlooking the desert sands in the east of Thanalan, east of Sandgate.

In all seriousness though, how do you honestly expect that they could instance a global, server-wide cutscene anyway with the severe stability issues they were faced with? It simply wasn't feasible.

I do think there should have at least been a goodbye/so long system message though that instructed those still in to watch the end CS from the portals listed by Nik above, which would have led to a smoother closure to this 'era'. Oh well, the CS is epic and they have done a great job building the hype for ARR. Let's hope it's as good as we all hope.

The only server message we got was one regarding Lost connection to the Host Server.

I personally thought that was a pretty good video. I understand everyone's frustrations but it was pretty cool.

Yes: http://i.imgur.com/HWrqP.jpg

It wasn't much to speak of really. A bunch of Imperial Juggernauts spawned along with a bunch of imperial soldiers and Magiteck H1 units. The game kept timing but I was able to log in occasionally. At the final seconds, it just R0'd and logged out like a normal server maintenance.

Rest in peace, Louisoix.

And holy crap Bahamut, this explains why the final boss of the meteor storyline used MegaFlare. I thought it was just a random move that tied in with FF-universe, but in reality it was just a giant hint.

The similarities between Dalamud and Bahamut and the fact that he used Megaflare were what gave it away from me. When Bahamut came out the way he did, I was surprised but not overly so. More of an 'ahah!- ulp, holy **** Bahamat's killing everything!' moment than a total "WTF!?" moment.

Someone on the official forums pointed out that Dalamud is only a few letters away from Bahamut, which I thought was interesting. And Van Darnus was basically a dragoon with Bahamut as his wyvern.

The final CS was nothing short of epic.

I watched it immediately after it went live with a few roommates in the room who knew nothing about the FF universe... once it was finished, I turned to find them all completely drawn in by it behind me! They all had to scoop their jaws from the floor and were so amazed by the quality and how 'crazy sad' the mage's sacrifice was at the end..

SE may yet win a few hearts and minds with this amazing clip... good on them for the effort. Also, GREAT use of the Answers theme song, it fit so beautifully.

Well Bahamut tried to destroy Vanadiel but was thwarted. So its only natural they call upon him as this world's enthusiastic wrecking crew. If this is what it takes to get me a lag free world with an auction house, I'm rooting for the dragon!

Can someone please put this video to R.E.M.'s "It's the end of the world as we know it"? It just feels appropriate to me.

I think the best thing about this CS is that no one knew it was coming.

I mean, we knew that Meteor was not really a moon. but when Bahamut cracked out of that I was like Smiley: jawdrop

Props to the dev team for keeping that under wraps.

I'm also really surprised I didn't hear about Bahamut ahead of time. I'm getting an overall positive vibe from everyone posting too. I so can't wait for PS3 release now!

I showed this to a few young, under 20, black males that care nothing for MMORPGs, FF, or anything that isn't Madden or CoD. They were stunned by the video and said **********, that's something I might try to get into." They said it was WAY better than the Dragonball Z video that they were watching a few min ago and that they loved that the Dragon hatched and went crazy. I tried to give them a context of the world prior and to that moment.

Done right SE could have/could get a lot of people to TRY ARR when it comes out. Keeping people is a whole other ball game.

I loved the video. I have watched it more than 10 times, easy. Cause I sit around at work, of course.
