Timeline for Playing again?Follow

So I guess I am realtively new again as I left the game for a while and only very recently came back but I cannot seem to actually find out what is going on.

So we got the to the end of the game as we know it yesterday with the Dalamud event and now the servers are closed down....but thats really as much as i know. I have read around about beta testing and alpha testing and I have seen dates of 26th November and stuff but i have no idea whats going on.

Obviously I understand that there is a major overhaul being done to the game to introduce the new landscape, gamplay, content etc but all I really want to know is......when can I play the game again? When does the rest of the world get to join 2.0....when will final fantasy XIV be playable again?

Can someone give me a bit of a rtimeline as to whats going to happen and when just so I can get it clear in my head.

Much appreciated

the new roadmap is supposed to be out by December I think. they've said they're running 2 months behind schedule.

probably late Q1/early Q2 2013.

A35: Currently we are about two months and two weeks behind schedule compared to the road map that was released on Oct. 14, 2011. The main reason of the delay is the vast amount of adjustments that needed to be taken care of two months ago. While we'd like to stay on schedule, we want to make sure we create a top-tier MMORPG that can compete against the rest of the MMORPGs in the market. Therefore, we wanted to spend as much as time as we need until we are satisfied with the product.

Sorry to keep you all waiting, but we plan on releasing a new roadmap around the end of November/early December.

We're starting to prepare for the Beta Test which we would like to implement at the end of January or early February. However, we are doing our best to make it so we can have the servers open 24 hours to allow for more and more players to participate in the Alpha Test, so please hang in there a bit longer for finalized details.

Not wanting to be downer...but if the earliest there will be a beta is late Jan/early Feb 2013...we are probably looking at a April/May launch date. That is assuming they do not run into more snags.

They will not be rushing this.

I think I had read through most of this stuff but they talk of alpha test this and beta that I really wasn't quite sure who was what and when and god knows which planet.

I just find it a little hard to believe that a title of such size and reknown would take the whole game off air globally for such a long time and not have any kind of cast iron plan put in place. It seems almost worthy of the previous game designers to make moves such as this and not the new designwers who have made such headway with the game in such a short time.
I guess if their plans for the game and the longevity are such that they need to repackage the game and take it off line for a month or so then so be it. I managed 9 wonderful and all too brief years on FFXI even with all its initiaol problems too and if I have to miss a month or so to get another 9 years of Final Fantasy then it should all be worth it....I hope

They have a plan, it's published even. They just happen to be a bit behind and are probably looking for ways to shorten the delay without sacrificing quality. They need to take all the time necessary, if this game relaunches and has anything major wrong with it it could be the death knell for the game. I expect we will get a new roadmap or at least more details on when the next Alpha wave/Beta will be starting before the end of the year.

The only thing I find strange is that if they knew they were this delayed, why still go through with the end event? It seems like better business to keep the servers open and charge subs until Jan/Feb and then do the end event. I know there are plenty of people who still hadn't completed all the quests or gotten all the relics they wanted.

I'm ok with them being a bit far behind. In any window given for a major launch I immediately tack on an additional six months for unforseen interruptions and delays. If they do get it out by the end of Q1, I'll be pleasently suprised.

In the meanwhile, I've got a lot to do on my end.

Edit: read that wrong.

It all comes down to clean data. When you are developing stuff, you have a database you're practicing with, and then the live data. You don't want your practice database and your live database to be too radically different, or else you can ***** things up badly. SE's decision to use the saved game from Nov 1 means they are using it as the practice database as well as the live database. That's a luxury many IT developers would kill to have. (My project management team is working with a database that will be 6 months old by the time we're ready to import. We'll have to scrap it and get a more recent one.)

That makes sense, I guess. Thank you for the insight!

It's just the spoiled brat in me wanting to either play what I had or play what is new without too much downtown in between. Really hoping that they solve that 800+ person lag and everything moves smoothly. Really don't want to wait 6+ months for the game to come out!

Pretty much.

Late April/Early May = 1.0 all over again.

They can't even implement any beta feedback in mere three months...

Even six months is pushing it, but their workforce is so big that it could happen, unless they lose the control due to the sheer size of it..

Bigger workforce = bigger communication issues. I'd be terrified to take a look at their Gantt chart.

On the other hand, Yoshi P has adopted Agile programming (Tanaka was very much a waterfall holdout), so they actually have a very good chance of putting the problems reported in beta into the final version.
