Hello

I'm new to forums and never played FFXIV. I'm one those console gamers that been waiting for the PS3 release. I just finished FFXIII and FFXIII - 2., Just wondering if anyone could tell me how much alike the 2 games are or if FFXIV totally different.

They are completely different. FFXIII and FFXIII 2 are single player RPG's. FFXIV is an MMORPG.

welcome to forums

well to start off with ff14 is a mmo as ff13 is not. its alot different, you can play/party with many other people, "supposedly" there lot more to do in ff14. gameplay during battles pretty much same, all turn base mmo not fast action. can get slow and boring if you're not use to it. i came from fast pace mmo everquest 2 before i came to ff14, thoght ff14 was slow but i got use to it and its pretty fun. still think it'll be much more fun if its free for all fast pace mmo hopefully 2.0 is like that.

Is Final Fantasy XIII the only Final Fantasy title you've played?

Final Fantasy XIV is being re-done to seem more like a fan-service title bringing back everything that was in previous titles in the series. Final Fantasy XIII (and XIV 1.0) seemed like very mis-matched odd sheep in the bunch.

If I had to compare Final Fantasy XIV to another Final Fantasy, it would be more in line of XI and XII in world/gameplay design, IV/V/VI in story/atmosphere, and III/V in the Job Design.

There was talks about having XIII's world come into XIV though. I forget which interview mentioned this.

Yep, I know the Final Fantasy Franchise is big but FFXIII is only one I've played.

I'm coming from EQOA (Everquest Online Adventure) from PS2. I'm a console gamer. I did tried play FFXI when first release on PS2 but quit because I enjoyed EQOA more and didn't want to invest lot of time in 2 different MMO.

Since Sony decided to close EQOA servers I been wanting to play another MMO. So I been playing FFXIII to try get the feel of what FFXIV may be like. I was just hoping FFXIV battle mechanics isn't lot like FFXIII. Seem very slow turn base and my character felt horribly restricted during battles in FFXIII.

The only things similar between XIII and XIV is the fact that they have "Final Fantasy" in the name and that you kill things. There's nothing else similar at all. Since XIII is the first FF you've played, I'd like to welcome you to the FF franchise. I've played since they first released VII and I"ve been hooked ever since. As a small note, I'd like to say that SE makes it a point to make each and every FF title different from all the others. All the games are for consoles and XI and XIV are the only mmo titles. XII originally was going to be an mmo, but they made it single player only.

If you loved EQOA which i assume you did, since you played until Sony shut the servers down, then you will like this game, is like very much like Everquest, now the game is in a transition in which it will become more akin to WoW than to Everquest, but the fundamentals should still be the same, as for XIII and XIV, besides their names, there is nothing that compares really other than they are both final fantasy's that dint deliver to the name but that is another entire issue that is being corrected.

Give the game a try, the grind is the same with prettier pictures.

while the gameplay in FFXIV is much different than EQOA... FFXIV is a LOT more similar to EQOA than it is to FF13

i was once a avid eqoa addicted and i can tell ya ff14 gameplay is way different then eqoa, only thing that makes them alike is is the mysterious creatures dragons. in eqoa raids or group was fast pace as in ff14 its slow turn base and can get downright boring if you not use to it. im sure you will get use to it and have fun, if i can im sure anyone can

FFXIII isn't like any of the other FF's, really... to the point that players and even some of the creators don't even consider it in the same genre.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

You should check out the other Final Fantasy games. This is a good quote:

If you want to cut to the chase go play FF X and XII, avoid X-2 like the plague. They have a similar style of open world type but clearly can't match the MMORPG aspect because they are not. Really XII is the one I would play if you only had time for one game but X is where they broke completely away from open world game play and added a type of rail system. XIII is almost literally, if not completely, a rail game.

Just know that FFXIV is open ended and sandbox type. You can do what you want, when you want, with little penalty, other than not having an item or access to things. That you already know about from your previous MMO experience. GL, I can't wait for the PS3 release and I was really excited to play it on the PC while I could.

I played EQOA for 5-6 Years, FFXIV is very similar to it, now the battle system is slower and there is not as much content midway to cap as there was in EQOA at release or even after the Expansion, but the feel and progress is very similar, with 2.0 the content gap should have been closed or surpassed by FXIV, so give the game a try.

Btw: I was a SK cap level in CLW server(The very first server in the list)

It's rather ironic that no one has recommended it yet, but you could also try out Final Fantasy XI Online as well. It's a 10 year old MMO which is not as hardcore as it used to be, but it was influenced by EQ from the beginning. While FFXIV is not a sequel of FFXI, there are a lot of similar concepts, especially the playable races, jobs, and stats like MP and TP. Many of FFXIV's players are former / current FFXI players as well.
