Ya I just happened to refresh the page the moment that guy's post went up. 2-3 minutes into the video I paused it to see if anyone had said anything yet, since I was unsure if it was a true Alpha video. By then Wint had already gotten to work. Quite impressive.

I'd bother to look on youtube but I'm not confident that I won't have to try to sort through poorly labeled "FFXIV alpha" videos. "Why, this doesn't look like it's improved at all! Oh, wait..."

I wasn't trying to be but this guy obviously knew what he was doing was against the rules. In actuality, if I followed what we did from the 1.0 alpha, he would have been banned on the spot. I was trying to be nice but yeah, I wouldn't get in trouble from the powers that be if I banned the next one to try it. Preferably I'd like everyone to just follow the rules, I'm not really a bad *** Smiley: smile

Though looking at youtube, I see a ton of "Kill x/x mob" quests that aren't guildleves or "collect x/x items near me" quests that plague every other MMORPG that, correct me if I'm wrong, but people said SE wouldn't be doing? Despite anyone with a brain saying they're going to be doing that?

Oh well, one things for sure, they definitely better have amazing animation blending in store or they took a step back from even XI's animations lol.

Ahh very nice. I have a 2012 Black Widow Ultimate. It's awesome. Does you're app only work with LCD keyboards? Is it just for displaying info on said LCD? I can take the answer in PM, if that's better.

Yeah, both Logitech and Razer have SDK's they provide to interface with their hardware. I did have a Windows Gadget that did the same thing but Microsoft killed those off sadly. That was the only other way I had to deliver something to people who didn't have the fancy keyboards. They said they would let third party developers work with XIV eventually, hopefully that is sooner rather than later.

But hey, if you get stuck in the game, then death only results in magically appearing back at your house and getting your clothes ripped up, and people will pay you good money to trade them worthless crap, and the grasss never needs to be mowed. Right, well it's a cool peripheral and all, and I'm glad someone is finally trying to bring the technology to market (hopefully it doesn't flop horribly).

But contrary to replacing the keyboard and mouse, it would actually make them harder to use. So unless they get a decent controller-style peripheral for MMOs, I think it's a long way off before it's practical for MMOs.

Logitech made a really neat controller for PS2 that I used the entire time I played FFXI. It was basically a stretched out PS2 controller with a laptop-sized keyboard in the middle of it. I won't say it was the ultimate answer, but it was really easy to use. I'm really hoping there's something like it available for PS3 when FFXIV releases.

It should, yeah. My whole issue though is that you're always putting one down and picking the other up. Sony does make a little attachment that clips onto the top of a regular PS3 controller, but it's really small. My meat hooks would have me retyping all day long lol

I have two of these (and there was another that I had to throw out when it broke). I thought they were fantastic. There was a similar product for GameCube or DreamCast (forget which), but nothing since. I whine about it all the time, but I really wish someone would make a similar product for the PC.

The Logitech ones did have a couple of problems though. The buttons and joysticks were a bit iffy and had a tendency to get stuck. Funnily, mine always had trouble with the "s" key, so I ended up talking like a ******* snake half the time.

Those things don't even do anything for me, unfortunately. In my mind, a peripheral that there's any point in looking at is an inferior peripheral. If you can't do it easily by feel, it needs a redesign.

I don't generally have to look, but I would if I were using some of those far right keys. However, in addition to thinking that a good peripheral shouldn't require you to look at it, I also don't think a good peripheral requires you to move your hand position. Keyboard and Mouse just has way too much of that going on for my tastes.

I use the Nostromo, and while it's hardly as ergonomic as it should be, it's a much better experience than keyboard and mouse, imo. You still have to switch to the keyboard for chat, but for general gameplay, you can easily do everything without having to feel around on the keyboard for hand placement.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I hated the Nostromo, some of the far out keys are too hard to reach. I wanted to like it, but never ended up using it.

This is my fancy mouse: http://www.evoluent.com/

Paired with a cheap $20 Microsoft Comfort Curve hybrid ergo keyboard.

What I actually need right now is a better chair. Last time I upgraded my desk area, I got this crazy idea to replace the task chair with an armchair from Ikea. The chair is comfy as all get out, but it's too short. So now I have to have my keyboard on a lapdesk to type without gorilla arms.

As soon as I'm not paying the university $6,000 a semester, I'm getting a better chair. Smiley: lol

I spent $350 on a nice mesh chair that was rated for 15+ hours daily use and I don't regret it one bit. Worth every penny and doesn't break in 6 months like the other crap Office Max sells.
