Greetings!
In 2010 I had purchased the collectors edition of the game I was so reved up FFXIV but like 90% of the community I was terribly let down. After a few days of bad server activity and game issues, I just stopped logging in.

Fast forward. . . Keep going. . . And stop.

So here we are today, I had installed FFXIV again only to find the servers were down. So quick check sure enough the game has entered another alpha stage. . . O.o?

So this has left me wondering, will my collectors edition of the game even be any good on the next release? Is SE just gonna shaft me for the money I spent on an unplayable game 2 and a bit years ago? What is the 411 on the state of FFXIV today? I would have read an FAQ Post if there was one so please forgive all the questions I'm just looking for a quick easy way to be brought up to speed. I tried logging into the lodestone website but because I hadn't logged into a game server in the last 30 days it pretty much gave me a stick and told me to sit on it.

Anyhow how was the game before they pulled it down again? Is the game going to be worth even looking at when ever they let people play? I see there is an alpha at some point will they let everyone participate in the beta? You can kind of guess from here the kind of questions I have and could keep asking, but if there is some helpful people out there that don't mind offering up some time to answer these questions and maybe others I didn't put down it would be awesome!

Cheers, and many thanks!

Anything you knew about v1.0, forget it. They're completely revamping the game to follow more modern MMO "standards" such as quest-based leveling. No one can say whether the game is worth it to play since it could change drastically between alpha and release. If you want to get a feel of how things are progressing and what direction they're heading for spend a couple seconds browsing the forum and you'll see the alpha gameplay footage. As for beta; the invite haven't gone out yet but I'd wager a guess that they would start next month or so.

Will I need an active account to get in on the beta? Or will simply owning the game get me in?

EDIT: Also thank you for replying to me!

I've heard both sides; you need an active account as of X date or you just have to have purchased the game. Vaguely remember seeing a post on the Lodestone forums that someone had a friend that got in alpha despite quitting within the first month of 1.0 launch. I'm sure someone else has better information on the subject.

I remember reading that thread as well about someone without a sub getting the alpha.

By active account I think they mean "Your game is registered to an active SE account." and not just a "paid sub account". When beta sign ups come around just try applying, it'l probably let you.

QFT

People get mixed up in thinking that you need to be an active subscriber, but that isn't the case. If you created an account and played XIV(even if you never paid), you are eligible to register for testing. Simply log into your Square Enix ID, activate your account and you will be able to register.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

I can confirm that an account in good standing is all that was required for alpha. I only bought the game, I never paid for a month. Additionally, it is apparent that beta will be open to everyone, not just the group qualified for alpha. Unfortunately, I do not have the definitive post that indicated this, but I do see it regularly mentioned in other threads.

Freaking sweet I'm seriously looking forward to what FFXIV ARR will bring. From what I've read over the past few days I'm pretty happy that SE took a humble step back and accepted the lashing they deserved.

You will get a free digital download of ARR if you own a copy of FFXIV 1.0 and possess your registration codes.

Do you have to have you registration codes or is it fine that you just have a registered account?

I'm almost positive as long as you have/had the service activated on your account (or have the codes and can register them on the site once they start 2.0) you're good to go.

Luckily being a bit of a hoarder I've kept all of my stuff for FFXIV. I got the collectors edition so yeah I kept it all. SO I'm excited to hear that I should still be good :)
