I'm not sure which letters you are talking about. If you are watching the video of combat and quests, then you may be talking about the giant golden "Q" above the hogs. The giant Q indicates that that monster is the one you need to take out to complete the quest they are associated with. Also, I noticed there was and A or B next to those hogs. Those are just letter that separate multiple mobs that are attacking you at the same time. Each mob is given a letter and each additional one is given a different letter next in line in the alphabet. If 2 mobs are attacking you'll see mobA and mobB etc etc.. If you look at the left hand part of the screen, you'll see a list of all the mobs that aggroed the player and you'll notice that they are aptly named HogA and HogB. In the event that you want to target a specific mob, you can target it easily by clicking on its name on the left and your character will target it and begin attacking it.

I think those might be development only stuff. So that if a monster has strange behavior, the devs know it was "monster M that spawned at 11:45 AM under X conditions."

I saw a ZombieU. Blatant rip off.

I'd guess to coordinate which mob to attack next.

I thought it was linked to skill chaining for more experience points after the kill.

I heard it's just to help Japanese players learn their ABC's.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

What i heard somewhere is that the same guy who did the combat system for FF12, which uses the same letters by the name, is working on the ARR combat system. It's just the way he rolls, I guess...

I have no idea where I heard this and have no link. Believe me at your own risk.
