Shared hairstyles, new hairstyles and changing them

Original Post

The latest letter (as well as some other apparently mined pics) gives us evidence that hairstyles will be shared within the races.

F Elezen -> F Miqo'te hairstyle
M Lalafell -> M Elezen hairstyle
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/60207

But I really do hope we will also be getting a range of new hairstyles, if not now then why not in future patches?

We already know the new races will have at least one new hairstyle, but other then that one each, will they simply share our already existing ones? (Which are practically all from FFXI)

In a previous life FFXIV was supposed to have a 'Barber' of sorts... (no...not the medicinal slack jaw at the Golden bazaar)
We would have the option to change our hair style and colour for a price as I remember it, will this still be implemented in game at any planned stage?
Would this include other features such as make up, war paint, scars, bindis etc?
Would this be a viable option to 'turning off' our Legacy markings or even other perhaps achievement related markings?
example:
Able to purchase ''Slash scarring'' on upper arm or leg: reward from slaying 50,000 mobs
Able to purchase ''Holy jewel Bindi": reward from slaying 20,000 undead type mobs

++This is not a 'I want pretties over teh gamplay' thread... so it's rather unproductive to say 'I'd rather they fix the gameplay' ... we already know they are fixing/changing/whatever-ing the gameplay

TL;DR: Are the current amount of hairstyles (if interchangeable between races) enough options for you? Would you like to see more options in general even if they had to be 'earned'? Would you ask that new customization be released in patches as a usual update along with new crafts/gear etc?
++ Don't be daft

We understand that by adding more elements it would open up character creation even more and give rise to more possibilities. However, by adding more elements the character data packets would also increase and there is a possibility that it would greatly affect network traffic.

Keeping in mind that this game will be global, we would like to look into this very carefully, since there will be users from all over the world accessing the game.

With all of that said, we are not turning away any requests for elements you all would like, so by all means please send us your feedback.

Mini-map Orientation

Mini-map Orientation
I’d like to give an update on our progress with the mini-map orientation.

In A Realm Reborn it will be possible to change the directional orientation so that the mini-map is based on your character’s line of sight.

Also, similar to 1.0 it will be possible to set the orientation so it is fixed, and the option can be toggled as you like.

Item Binding

We wanted to give you more information about the item binding that was mentioned in the Letter from the Producer Live IV.

For items that bind to characters, it will not be possible to transfer them to characters under the same account.

Also, since we are planning to make it so once you accumulate more than 1 point of spirit bond the item will be bound to you, as long as you do not fulfill this criteria it will be possible to transfer it to other characters.

Finally, regardless of whether they are bound to you or not, EX items and such that could not be transferred previously will still not be able to be transferred.

Hey guys,

Just wondering if there is a way to change your name on the forums at all ^^? I have had a look around and can't seem to find anything but I could be missing something, and it never hurts to ask... Plus I will probably be using a different name in ARR too, so could be useful

Thanks in advance ^^

Simply question about "Beta phase 1"

Although phase one will be limited to areas around Gridania like the alpha test

Yoshi-p said that in todays letter, but I was wondering one specific thing - Does this mean its limited to Gridania jobs again?

Not the hugest deal, but it is something that came to my mind, personally, when reading it. I'm excited as all heck and semi-impatient, but I am ok to wait more. But, that said I was wondering about this.

Greetings,

As mentioned in the Producer Letter, the first phase of the Beta Test will take place in Gridania, and as such will only include the classes that have guilds found within Gridania.

That said, please remember that the Alpha Tester non-disclosure agreement is still in effect, so please refrain from discussion Alpha-related content.

Update: While normally you would only be able to play as the classes available in Gridania, please note that as a special exception during Beta Test phase 1 & 2, players will be able to complete specific objectives to unlock the gladiator class. (Updated Feb 9, 10:20am PST)

The Twelves, what do they look like?

Hello!

Even though I read the description of each of The Twelves, it is still unclear as to how they are depicted in official Eorzean books/paintings.
For example, if we take the picture of Nophica “big-boobs”, the Matron (reference: click here), it is very different from what I was imagining after first reading about The Twelves.

I fear that the Guardian I picked might be an old and lame geezer.

Do the lore team have concept arts, sketches of their recollections from their oneiric travels to meet The Twelves, or even live photos they would be able to share with us?

I'm really curious to see what The other eleven Twelves look like!

Thank you very much in advance!! o(^^o)(o^^)o

Currently we don’t have any plans at the moment for illustrating all of the twelve. However, in the Beta Test you might just be able to find some statues of them, so definitely try and explore!

Moving forward we plan on having more things like this that give you a better feel of the lore.

Uh... is he suggesting that adding more hairstyles to PCs would increase latency?

Because HairStyle1 and HairStyle52 should be data points of exactly the same size.

No, I think it's having Hair Style, then Bang Style, then Ponytail Length, then Color, Highlights, low lights, etc.

Not preset hairstyles, but adding more elements to the hair style for tweaking,

Bottom line, if you, me, and your grandma have the most sick hair cuts in all the land, and they're personalized, and we look fricking awesome.... but the game lags... everyone's going to have a crap-fit.

On the other hand, if us three all have simple plain hairstyles between 10 choices and we aren't TOTALLLLLLY happy with the way we look, yet the game runs like a bullet.... I'm sure we'll all agree the latter is preferable.

I see... yeah ok, I suppose that could cause some issues.

Weren't FFXIV servers going to be regionally located this time though? Instead of them all being in Japan?

The big problem with massive customization is the distance that data's round trip has to be to be useful to anyone.

For the record here... Aion offers approximately a hojillion character customization data points and doesn't have this problem.

Yeah, uh, I really have to wonder why SE's code is so ****** if they can't keep up with other game developers on character customization. I mean, the character customization on release was a joke.
