I was just browsing gameinformer and ran into these articles. I had heard about the rift before but was just became more curious when I read the skyrim article.

If this product was affordable would you buy one?
What games would you like to be supported by it if you owned one?
Do you think 3rd person games have any uses for rift?
Would you use this for ARR if it was supported?

I would most like to play survival horror games with rift personally lol.

1. Maybe
2. Horror games, anything with a tense mood, anything with weird/cool settings like Bioshock
3. Maybe
4. No, and Square Enix is always 15-20 years behind everyone else so don't expect it :P

It would have to be around $300-350 for me to buy. It would have to support alot of games. Maybe someone will hack it like skyrim?
My god I love horror movies and games. If this thing could give me a perspective from the eyes of the pursuee or pursuer, cream.

Yeah, I definitely won't buy it until there's a collection of games that support it, but it sounds kinda fun.

I also love scary stuff and I think it would be great for scary games.

The dev kits are $300, the launch model is supposed to be cheaper than that. I've been thinking about getting a dev kit, but I may have to wait until it launches.

I'd actually love to play any RPG or MMO with such a set up, provided the camera angle moves properly with your head. I mean, I'd love to actually have an immerse 3D experience in some of the locations in almost any of the FF games. Problem is, X's perspective is fixed on rails - the camera angle adjust automatically based on your character position. It wouldn't work ; ;

Yeah... What about the omni directional treadmill? Just the goggles or you like to pump up while gaming?

For Final Fantasy it would probably work with XII or cough... Versus.

Agreed. Any FF game such as FFXIV 1.0 or FFXI that allows a 1st person camera view would be especially nice. In fact, when I played XI and XIV I pretty much play in 1st person anytime I'm not in battle just so I can "experience" the world. Occulus Rift might be kinda cool for that.

It would be cool...but....controller and keyboard input would skill kill the experience for me. I think for FFXIV, they should make a first person camera that is like skyrim/elderscrolls....where u see your armor, hands, weapons, and feet etc...As i remember in 1.0...its just a moving camera....LAME....

Most first person games are just the gun and pieces of the arms maybe. Sad but true. It'd be nice if the occulus rift, with it's panaroma up and down and sideways would allow for the creation of a "body" that can be seen when looking down.

I don't know about game design enough to know how hard it would be etc....but how hard can it be just to move the camera into the head of your avatar and your mouse controls are limited to normal head moments?

I think I can experience standing around, menu navigation, and macro rotation -- in all their fullness -- without the need for a helmet or a treadmill.

Really, aren't MMOGs are enough of a treadmill without hooking one up to your computer? Smiley: lol

It would encourage me to give the MMO genre another try, I suppose.
