Edit: especially nice to see a positive review from someone who does not appear to be really familiar with 1.0/a ff fanboy, hah.

Strange article. She says she has not done any instances yet or used the Auction House.

She apparently also saw "red mage outfits"? Red Mage is in FFXIV?

Almost the entire article is about 'cute outfits' actually.. Smiley: laugh

Don't laugh...my gf (a non-gamer) read that and said "That sounds really cute, maybe I should try this."
Any thing that sucks her into more of my world is good.

She only had 2 weekends of testing for this. And no, the article isn't almost entirely about cute outfits. In fact, she doesn't even mention "cute outfits" in it. She said "Changing outfits is a cute idea in theory". Actually, if you had thoroughly read the article you'd see that she isn't a big fan of the outfits, because there isn't enough variety (something I sure won't be the case on release based on 1.0). I didn't find the article strange at all, I thought it was nice to hear the perspective of someone who's not overly familiar with the game.

Regardless, it's good publicity. That's what this game needs.

There is no AH in Phase 2 at this time.

Overall I agreed with her impressions for the most part, this stood out to me:

Quote:
Changing outfits is a cute idea in theory, but in practise, most people can’t be ***** to spend precious monies on purchasing an entirely different outfit per talent, as evidenced by the amount of players sawing wood in the buff.

While this is true, there is a reason I think: there aren't many gear pieces for DoL and DoH yet. The few pieces that I saw do grant bonuses to the skills you need, so I think as crafting takes off in ARR there will be more well-dressed craftsman to boost their skills to the max.

If I recall, crafting in 1.0 would cause your gear to take damage. So people crafted with no gear on to avoid the damage. Maybe it's the same reason in ARR.

Or maybe they just didn't want to put on pointless level 1 gear and they were waiting until level 5 or level 10 when they could put on legit gear.

Same reason you saw level 1s in XI fighting monsters naked. Smiley: lol If you threw away your starter gear, you were SOL til level 7 unless you wanted to spend gil on stat-less crap from the NPCs.

You know, maybe some of us were quite find of our Rusty Subligar. Most notably if I recall, was your mother. (My leveling provoke macro was "Your mother wears Rusty Subligar" >.>)

Also.. My god. that article is awful. Good for her for enjoying and positively promoting the game, but I could have written a better article while soloing an Iron Giant with Puppetmaster... I really need to get into gaming journalism...

I LOLd at this, mainly because I'm in a similar situation. I mod pc cases as a hobby and told my gf I would give her my old rig when I'm done with my new one...she requested I repaint it pink Smiley: oyvey It's nice when they involve themselves in things you love, but sometimes it blows up in your face.

Yeah I'm glad my wife and I have our separate lives. Watching a movie or having dinner is cool, but I need to go out on my own and have my own hobbies too.

My wife and I are similar. Our friends always comment on how all the other couples in our group are a gauranteed pair, but my wife and I are definitely individuals. They actually complain sometimes that they don't see the 2 of us together enough. I'm a gamer, she's a reader. I'm meat and potatoes, she's asparagus and mushroom pasta. I like movies like Iron Man, she likes... movies like Iron Man. It's awesome Smiley: grin

I'm not married yet just engaged. But in my opinion opposites or similars attract. It's when we try to limit or deny the other person their passions when relationships run sour. So that's the gist of your passions and her passions.

Then there comes shared passions. Things I enjoy myself and doing with her. This works out well for me when I genuinely enjoy doing the shared passion. I have tried before wanting to do the shared passion thing but it never makes me content. When I don't genuinely and fully enjoy doing an activity together for personal enjoyment. I sell myself short and her as well in the process. Because I am not fully engaged and present with her. In other words, when you do something just because that's what couples are traditionally supposed to do. Everything takes on a dampened or mediocre timber between the two of you.

My wife despises video games in all forms but especially MMOs. She hates that I can sit down for 3 hours straight every evening. Tensions run especially high when I'm really interested in a game. Marriage is compromise. I am now only allowed to play a couple nights a week.

Here's a compromise worth suggesting.

While you're playing your MMO, she could make some sandwiches.

Win-win!

Told my lady that playing MMOs is like reading a book that never ends :p A really good book :p Force her to play some of the old FF games! :3 perhaps that would open her eyes to greatness that is FF :3

Either that or demand that she seriously curtail HER favorite hobbies.

Seems only fair.

I'm willing to bet a lot of people just didn't know where the gear was.

IIRC from 1.0, low level (level 1) stuff was available from vendors and vendor stuff is cheap; this IS a beta as well so there's no reason to price it at an obscene number. Not having gear vs. having gear was a night/day difference in 1.0, leveling up, because it improved your success rate, and I don't see why they would take away that aspect here.

Edited for clarity

Originally it low level gear was not for sale by NPC vendors, that feature was added later after we complained, also it they where massively overpriced.
