Sneak Peak at Beta Phase 3!
Hey everyone!

We updated the Official Facebook page with a few new images of what you can expect to see in Beta Phase 3! (Remember! Images represent content still under development.)

Head over to the gallery to check them out! (We'd post them here, but they're huuuuge, so better to see the full image there)

Check it out and give us a "Like" if you're looking forward to Phase 3 Beta Testing!

From the official forum! I obviously have no access to any NDA breakable material... yet Smiley: sly

Lvl 10 Arcanist seems to have like 6 abilities, and can use a shield! Well, that's what the pictures show anyhow.

Very nice! I'll be starting in Limsa to be an Arcanist. The Primals having their own storyline sounds exciting. Can't wait to see more about this and Summoner.

Limsa forever!

But Ul'Dah DEFINITELY looks more interesting now with the lights and lamposts. I never understood why people loved it so much in 1.0... convenience only takes you so far.

It's had quite a few subtle tweaks while retaining it's overall look and feel from 1.0.

Yeah, Conjurer and THM could use shields in 1.0, however they weren't used to block.

There was a grand company shield I used for my BLM with my one-handed scepter that gave +10 Magic Attack Bonus.

Wow, those environments!

Seeing a mage of any sort using a shield, that isn't magical is still odd to me.

And wait...there's different starting cities? Sheesh, I'm behind the times o.o

I wonder if there will be a quest series to unlock Arcanist. I liked the advanced job quests in XI. I'm pretty certain there will be for Summoner. Defeating primals to gain additional summons would be nice also. It was loads of fun in previous titles.

I'd totally play a Summoner alongside Paladin (main) and Monk if it meant getting summons through battles :P

They're giving it a similar treatment, but no one's been able to play there even if they were in the beta so they can't say how it worked.

Limsa had probably the best look of the 3 starter cities, it's only downfall was the map was so twisted it got annoying walking everywhere. So I can imagine with a small map revamp and the new engine, this place will look amazing.

Since the DoL guilds are located in specific cities, I'd assume that if you want to be in that guild from the start, it's best to start in that city.

In 1.0 U'Dah had the clothier's guild, the jeweler's guild, the alchemist's guild, and the miner's guild.

Gridania in 2.0 has the botany guild, the woodworking guild, and the leathercraft guild.

I can't remember all of it since I only spent a short time there in 1.0, but that would likely leave things like fishing, cooking, and blacksmithing in Limsa Lominsa.

Yeah, it wasn't even available when I did the media event in Feb. I got close though, and the architecture around it (there was a city with ship building and a dock, I'll have to go through my notes to find the name) is all very similar and very nice looking indeed. Edit: Found it, Moraby Docks is the name.

I agree, I really hated the way everyone gravitated to one city, we don't need another Jeuno in this game.

Awesome deductive reasoning given that I am pretty sure that character is a Thaumaturge (even though the icons on the hotbar are not recognisable). Check out the small symbol next to the name on the top left of the screen!

Would seem about right though to have 6 abilities, 1 to start, and 1 every two levels.

Thanks Wint - I am and have generally been a fan of the game since the start. I had a bad time here at launch where opinions were not really welcome unless you hated the game (perhaps for good reason as almost everyone hated it). A few years on, thought I would come back and try to avoid any controversy this time round!!

Looking forward to this release being more successful perhaps!

It looks fine. I'm also fine with them not providing multiple articulated models of each individual blade of grass to animate in sync with the weather and wind direction. That's an acceptable sacrifice to make the game playable on both the PS3 and computers that are not necessarily from space.

Agreed..for the most part but lets not be blind. That grass (which is all we are talking about here) looks pretty terrible by even the standards of a few years ago.

Here is the Archylte Steppe from FFXIII-2 on PS3

Screenshot

And for comparison the grass from FFXIV 2.0 for PC.

Screenshot

The grass in FFXIII-2 was beautiful*, the grass in 2.0 is not.

*Disclaimer: Obviously this level of graphics is not really possible in an mmo but it does not appear they gave the grass much attention in 2.0

That's totally fair. Keep in mind though that FF13-2 knows exactly how many things it has to render at any given time. An mmo does not. Would you be willing to take a significant framerate hit with a few dozen players in the area just to have gorgeous grass?

I think the option depending on system specs seems reasonable.

No, you don’t hate to be ‘that guy.” In fact it’s the opposite, you love to be “that guy.” That’s why in every thread you take time out to figure out ways to BE “that guy.” If you hated to be “that guy” I am sure you would complain about people being “that guy” just like you complain about so many other things that have to do with FFXIV ARR..

Also.. You are taking gaming a little too seriously if your complaining about grass. You want to see great grass? Go outside. I’m sure there is some to be found somewhere out there

Why are you hating because he has an opinion? That grass, which was the only thing being discussed, does look like crap. Graphics progress, its a fact, yet this is a step backwards. Dont be a fanboy, evaluate it with a little more discerning mind. That is what has enabled Yoshi to improve it so much so far. Having high standards is not a crime. Being intentionally blind for the sake of argument is.

Who knows what state the grass is in anyway. Perhaps it's placeholder grass? Perhaps they're waiting to drop a bomb on all of us with how awesome the grass is going to be, but they just haven't gotten it in there yet? Perhaps paying attention the grass in one shot is just a bit too **** for anyone's taste, too? Seriously, if you're not going to buy/play/enjoy the game because of the way it renders the grass then I'm happy to let you live with that decision. Sure, we're all here chatting about a game in an information vacuum, but you don't have to over-analyze the smallest little thing to make conversation. Responding to this thread is counter-intuitive for me, but you have to chill about the grass. Cool your jets over a random shot of the flora and wait patiently like the rest of us.

My god the grass THE GRASS how am i supposed to play a game if the GRASS looks like that!! huh?!

When i log in my MMO since i am a no lifer i want to spend my morning while looking to the grass and feeling (well my character) the small breeze. So what am i supposed to do if the freekin grass looks like that!! GOD!!

That aside i understand that some people would like everything to look great. That is understandable and acceptable especially in the MMO gender. But seriously? You take the **** grass under so much consideration? Or are you worried that the overall graphics won't be nice?If its the later you only need to take a look at the rest of the screenshots. Personally seeing those i would say the game rocks in the graphics section (but then again i was never into super uber graphics, i prefer content over graphics). Others might disagree and i saw some saying that they are worse than 1.0, that might be true i don't know but you know what? I also don't care because the difference at least to my un trained eye is not that big and i do not take under so much consideration the **** grass.

Let the down-rate begin! Smiley: lolSmiley: lol

The grass has been debated for a long time. Started back on the official forums back when the initial screenshots were released. When that's what people nitpick about, you've done a goos job.

I hate to be "that guy", but what's going on with the grass in this screenshot?

It reminds me of the SNES era. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/920919_10151637896505871_1876398806_o.jpg

You guys are ******** about the quality of the grass...the game looks amazing and you're unhappy with the grass?

I don't really care about the grass...I turned it off (problem solved). I am however supporting his point. Yes, in fact, the grass looks terrible. It's not a debate or opinion, by today's standards it looks sad. But, again, that was merely a statement made by the Killua to which many replied "no it doesn't" basically. It does. Sure the game looks great, I love it so far. The grass looks like crap. That won't stop me from playing, it's just an observation Killua made, that I agree with, that everyone immediately began flaming like we were heretics. Settle down folks. We are entitled to an observation about a specific aspect of the game, that's why these screens are released.

Firstly I never said the grass had good or bad quality.. I also dont care about people stating their opinion even if it is exaggerated. What I take issue with is that fact that people feel the need to take a crap on other peoples excitement and then try to brush it off with that standard phrase,"OH, I hate to be that guy buuuuut.." When clearly you love to be "that guy.." The quality of the grass was not the issue. So please evaluate, with a more discerning mind, just how invalid your response was. Oh and hey, look! You got the pleasure of calling someone a fanboy! Congrats :D ...
