OT: Favorite Games for the PS3Follow

I just bought one about 3 weeks ago and am very much enjoying it. It has been a godsend with the delays to FFXIV. So far I've been playing Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Star Ocean: TLH, White Knight Chronicles, Maijin and the Forsaken Kingdom and some sports games.

I was just wondering what everyone's favorite PS3 games are and why.

And no, this is not a shameful attempt to get free advice on what games to buy...

...ok maybe it is. Smiley: nod

Valkyria Chronicles is quite good. Bit difficult to classify it nicely into a genre....maybe try turn-based tactical action rpg? Anyway, whatever... it's great.

Yum!

As far as exclusives go:

Heavenly Sword (no trophy support). An early release you can buy on the cheap. Short but extremely fun hacknslash game.

Heavy Rain. You'll either find the games playing style (or lack thereof depending on who you talk to) extremely boring OR you'll get totally engrossed into a pretty epic murder mystery as you try to hunt down the origami killer!

Siren: Blood Curse. Only available through psn store. No trophy support. If you're a fan of survivor horror it's one of the few available games out there and just fun to play.

Some nonexclusive shoutouts (if you've played them on the 360 ignore this small list):

Persona 4 Arena. You don't have to know a lot about Persona 3-4 to enjoy this hand drawn 2-d fighting game. If you like fighters give it a look!

Catherine (another Atlus shoutout). Block puzzler. You're trapped in a nightmare with hundreds of others. But they all look like sheep to you and you to them. Pretty fun storyline and fast paced timed block climbing. It's been a long time since a game made me want to throw my controller.

Bayonetta. Possibly my personal favorite hacknslash game. Just loved the storyline.

DMC. Yeah I'm a hachnslash girl lol

Lollipop Chainsaw. Juvenile humor but amusing nonetheless. Awesome soundtrack!

The best part about WKC was the on-line community... I thought it was shut down after they released WKC2?

I really enjoyed Ni No Kuni, even if it was a bit simple at times story and gameplay wise. It's definitely the best "hand drawn" animation game I've played on any system.

Another vote for Valkyria Chronicles as well as both FF XIII's though your mileage may vary depending on your patience level. XIII and XIII-2 (at least the 360 version) are in most bargain bins.

Then there's all the great titles on PSN as well.

i read just last night somewhere saying that the online is still going for now and will be shut down in about a month maybe two... from what i have read about it online it seems like alot of it relys on you to be able to play with others...

Yep, that's why I waited 5 years to get one. For 150 bucks (refurbished) I got a nice system where I can find most games for 5-20 bucks. Plus I didn't have a blu-ray player or a way to watch netflix on my TV, so it was a win-win.

I'm not super far either, but I'm liking it a lot. It has a very FFXI feel to it, but as a regular RPG. Not quite as grindy, but combat feels similar. I kind of put it on the back burner for SO4 currently, as it (SO4) consumes crazy amounts of time to finish everything (including postgame dungeons).

I actually enjoy my PS3, I've had all current gen consoles and my ps3 has been the most faithful. Although I did waste my time with a lot of FPS games. Man I can't even look at another FPS game right now, so sick of them :( . Looking for something different check out Little Big Planet (1 or 2) it's a great game to past the time. :)

As many others have mentioned, the entire Uncharted series is amazing. Dark souls will kill you a little bit inside every time you play, but you'll still go back for more. You WILL die....a lot..... Star Ocean 4 was good, but eventually it got old for me around 75% of the way in and it seemed to keep dragging on and on. Valkyria chronicles is one of those game I will always compare story to story. I haven't played a game that I've cared so much about the characters in the story since FF7 came out all those years ago. It's pretty amazing to say the least. Ni no Kuni is an excellent game even though it is easy as pie. It took around 64 hours to platinum for me and I enjoyed it all the way through. The metal gear solid series is great. I would maybe try ff13 and 13-2. I know a lot of people didn't like them, but I enjoyed them. That's something you'll find cheap, so it's not a wallet buster.

You also might try out the Deathspank demos on the PSN. They have an interesting humor to them that keeps you entertained. It's not something you're meant to take too seriously. I've played so many games it's difficult to remember all of them.

I loved metal gear solid of course. When Otacon said "SNAKE WAIT! We have to change the disc...oh wait we're on PS3 now no need to do that," I laughed my **** off and also felt tickled about their ability to have a really immersive experience be broken in such a fun way. God of War games are always fun, GTA IV was cool. Final Fantasy XIII-2 was good story-wise and graphically. I recently tried to pop in one of my favorites, FFXII, but it said my system is not compatible. Boo..

I think my favorite Ps3 game however, if measured by hours played, would be Netflix....

WKC was an ok title, i liked it a lot early on etc etc, but the real shine is on online play, tho it pales in comparison to Monster Hunter.

If you haven't played it yet I STRONGLY suggest picking up Borderlands 2, even if you rent it. I still suggest it even if you don't like FPS games, hell I sure don't and I felt it was the best new game I've played since mid life of the PS2. If anything you can be like me and play ZERO and just stealth and melee everything to death like a BAUSS. It has one of the BEST villains I've seen in any game to date, Handsome Jack is just one of those guys you love to hate.

If you are in to using the PSN store you could pick up Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. It's like SOTN but multiplayer with many of the characters from all of the games. It can be quite a bit grindey though after a while.

Since the PS3 currently in my possession is actually "borrowed" from a friend I don't really own any games for it, save RockSmith, but I doubt you would want to play that or even have a real guitar for it. Plus the song selection is pretty terrible in my opinion, only a handful of gems.

Edit: Also, for the love of all that is good and just in the world do not buy Resident Evil 6, no matter what the price is.

No one's mentioned the Mass Effect Trilogy? Come on, the ending to Mass Effect 3 wasn't THAT bad... In all seriousness, Mass Effect is truly a great series with excellent writing (perhaps too much at times), great characters, and a lovely galaxy to explore. Gets to be more of a space opera as the games progress, but it's a valuable experience I've sunk hundreds of hours into.

Try to find a demo for the game Vanquish. I have the demo, and it is Tina of fun! I really should buy the game... Ita probably pretty cheap by now.

Otherwise, I just finished Fallout: New Vegas, and had a great time with it. Dragon Age is awesome. For sports games, my favorite is the most recent EA sports NCAA Football game. You can equip any of Oregon's uniform combos! WTD!

There's probably a lot of good options to download from the store, too.
Related: Anyone played the Penny Arcade (On the Rainslick/Precipice of Darkness) games?

I've recently learned to stay away from pretty much all things Penny Arcade after they raised over 4 million dollars in a Kickstarter that they would use to simply remove adds from their site. I'm not even sure if they met their goal that would remove them forever. They were concieted enough to think that they might raise 30+ million dollars >.>.

Eh, good for them. They're a credit to the gaming community, and I'm glad that they're successful.

They don't have any ads currently, I can confirm that much. (I have them greenlighted in Ad Block, like all my other web comics.)

So that 4 million is still going to good use.
