I don't know but that place reminds me a lot of Mt. Corel from FFVII.

Could it be a lighthouse for airships?

Well it could be a landing area for airships but i doubt it. It seems like a factory with all the "pipes" and the fires.

There are quite a few screenshots with train tracks, I'd love to see trains as a form of transportation.

Looks like some kind of train system to me as well. Maybe pneumatic transit?

Thats what I was thinking. Chocobo-porter style train rides where you can look out the window. That'd be awesome.

While agree that would be cool, I would also ammend that it could only be more cooler to have a group of bandits assail the train.

I think electromagnet83 might be on to something here. Many are upset that Airships and boats don't take time, this would be a perfect solution for those folks aside from chocobo porters.

That is in my best guess a magitek facility or a ceralium(whatever is called) magitek run train, which would make sense since they are gonna have doomtrain and a magitek factory as istances in ARR. Maybe is a camp, a research facility or something, but it is connected to magitek.

Right and the infrastructure for such a train ride is already in place with the porter system. Very exciting prospect.

While i am all for trains i do not believe that is what we see here. I mean its obvious we see factory chimneys with fire coming out of them. The more i see it the more i believe its a digging site. But as you said even in these picture you can see train tracks.

It could be a celarium processing site, the train tracks could be the way they transport the mineral.

Yup! That section of thanalan has a ceruleum extraction operation going, akin to oil extraction. Those are actually ceruleum pipelines! :O

Looks like an imperial stronghold, similar to the stronghold they added at the end of 2.0

Midgar - I would love to see a town that is a bit technologically advanced with a subway system, shops, a neighborhood, and the slums. It doesn't have to be exactly like it, but enough to bring some nostalgia.

Copied from a little thread I started a while back regarding throwbacks.

I'm taking a shot in the dark, but I'm guessing it'll end up being camp blue fog. Perhaps we'll finally find out what it was all about. I always wondered what those spires were and why they made the area look the way it did.

In one post someone had placed a negative connotation on borrowing from other Final Fantasy games. I for one am looking forward to seeing some familiarity such as the Golden Saucer in the context of an MMO. Of course I'm also a bit worried about how the games/rewards would work...
