Not terribly shocking, but looks like we'll have some more info at least.

The Lodestone wrote:
We’re proud to announce that FFXIV: A Realm Reborn will be at E3 2013 in Los Angeles on June 11-13! While things are a bit hectic as our E3 preparations are in full swing alongside our Beta Phase 3 planning, the development and operations teams have been working hard to prepare exciting content for E3 attendees. If you’re able to attend, you'll definitely want to stop by the FFXIV: A Realm Reborn area at the Square Enix booth! Just what will the attendees be playing at the show? While we don’t want to ruin the surprise, we can say we're planning to let them try out some exciting battle content!

Since E3 is an industry-only event, many people won't be able to participate -- but don't worry! We're also prepping a lot of new videos (including an awesome new trailer!), assets and even some... hm, how should we say... "live" streamed entertainment? We'll have lots of juicy announcements for those of you watching at home, so be sure to mark your calendars!

I'm betting either the developer blog or twitter account will be posting things as they're announced, Zam shouldn't be too far behind Smiley: smile

It will be nice to start seeing some info be released again, it has been rather quiet the last month or so.

I hope they really announce something cool at E3, I mean the regular things is always nice, but it would be cool if even those of us who have followed the development since the ARR announcement got really surprised. Something big, something cool!

Fingers crossed that the beta begins the weekend right before E3, then. S-E in general I expect to really bring it with reveals and info at gaming expos this year. It's been quiet for a long time.

I know this is way off topic but I didn't want to start a new thread. I thought I heard somewhere that SE would be making a printed guide, is this true or am i just making stuff up? Please don't bash I know there is little need for a printed guide these days but I like to collect them. I still have the three from XI.

As the XI players discovered quickly with the infamous Brady guide, a paper MMO guide will quickly become inaccurate and outdated. There's just so much information that in order to fit everything in, it'd have to be a thousand pages long.

Now, I would like an atlas. The Vana'diel Atlas for XI was a much more useful guide. Add in some critical information about locations of NPCs and ???s for quests in each map, and the book, despite being relatively slender, becomes a critical offline resource.

Edit: Two repeated words? That's what I get for typing this before I had any coffee.

Agreed on both the atlas and brady guide for XI. I bought the guide since it was my first mmo, thinking it would be helpful, but really it was filled with so much misinformation even from the start that it was almost more of a hindrance. "Warrior is only good as a tank for provoke", "Dark Knight is the top damage dealing class"... even at launch, most of the stuff in that book was false or biased.

The Atlas though was a fantastic investment. Detailed maps of all the zones is highly useful.

I was using a tablet by the end of my FFXI days for maps, it was really useful to be able to zoom in and out with easy access to comments from players on the quests and stuff.

At this point, your avatar (on this forum anyway) might as well be your own custom avatar...

For most people I don't even read your names anymore, I just look at the avatar picture to know who made the post... I'm sure that will come to an end when the game is rereleased and the comforting dichotomy of all the regulars is shattered by newcomers.

When the guide came out, it wasn't horrible. I read it quite a bit actually, but some opinions on job combinations and what not were quite off. The quest guides, recipes, etc were a decent starting place, but I do admit the thing was outdated it no time. The issue back in 2003 is forums weren't as common place as they are now, not to mention not everyone had high speed internet available to them at a reasonable price, so some of us were still stuck on horrible horrible dial up.

The proper utility of WAR/WHM was that it could Silena itself.

I think that was in the "hey cool you can combine any 2 classes and play however you want" stage of the game... then you realized if you didn't have near perfect builds a VT monster could wipe out a group of 6 after a 30 minute epic battle.

All this talk about silly combinations takes me back to some crazy poster here a few years ago who insisted WHM/THF was the holy grail of setups for party and solo situations. Being able to SATA the tank, Flee from bad situations... It was either some serious trolling or the person was deluded to crazy levels.

As a RDM/NIN I used to duo with a WHM/THF for drops and stuff. Hornet Needle, Haku eyes, gold coins and tiny amounts of xp from the orcs they were stolen from. I would tank and she would stick them to me. I made us warp wands as a woodworker and she made us food. We used to skill chain together though I don't remember which one. I used the hornet needle once i got it and garudas dagger and she had a staff. We had tons of fun lol.

Even ridiculous combos have their place. I'm. Hoping for these kinds of stories again with FF XIV

See, you two are talking about specific places. I mean this person insisted on WHM/THF for traditional exp parties where /BLM or /SMN (before WotG) was far superior. I know it's fun for messing around and whatnot. The WHM forums were up in arms about it.

Oh yeah, if you're talking about old fashioned grinding parties then that's kinda ridiculous. You're just wasting other people's time doing stuff like that. I never really enjoyed being an MP battery as a RDM, but I knew that was my primary role for xp. If i wanted to have the opportunity to use my powers for ******** off later, then being a battery was just a means to an end.

Personally I liked partying with people who had wacky subjobs, especially if they were doing their best to make it work. The XP/hour wasn't always great, but the fun/hour was generally much better.

Sure, every now and then it was funny to party with a NIN/BLM who used their elemental spells to line up with their Ninjutsu. Things like that were entertaining, especially if the NIN could tank well by damage without provoke. It was more comforting to join a group of strangers with typical subjobs since it was assumed they'd be able to perform their roles to expectation. With friends, it was easier to let them do whatever and have a laugh. It just got worrisome on a job like WHM that is expected to keep everyone alive, where instead the person is focused on DD'ing at the expense of everyone's lives. I think damage dealers could get away with having any setups--less so for a core role like a healer.
