As an English guy living way out here in the middle east I was wondering (and have always wondered actually) if an EU only server would be better than a NA/EU or even a JP server for my location. I think, and please correct me here as I'm pretty ignorant about this sort of stuff, that my local ISP's cables come from some sort of hub in the EU, but does it really make that much difference?
If anyone out there remembers the 'What eruption?' , ''Oh that one that just killed me...' moments when fighting Ifrit in 1.0 you'll know what I'm talking about. I was one of those players that had to learn a different strategy to other players that involved ESP and some sort of sixth sense in order to be able to take part in that fight. Although it didn't spoil the game for me (as I kept playing until servers went down), I always wondered if there was any more I could do to make the game seem more like it was running in real time.
I think most of you guys in ZAM are NA with a few EU players posting here and just wanted to tap in to your infinite collective wisdom :)

To give a true 100% answer there are many factors to take into consideration, but simply put distance is your main factor so you'd ideally want something the closest. From the Middle East, you'd be better off using an EU based server (if one even becomes available, beginning to doubt that now from what SE have or rather havent said).
Just off the top of my head, I'd think in the absence of an EU based server you might even be better off with sticking with a JP based one. East Saudi might see you pretty much bang central and either or would be probably similar, but anywhere west will likely lean you toward JP being the shortest.
Then again, I've no idea how the backbone infrastructure is set out over your way. I know the main route from London down that way snakes around Spain, across the Med and down the Red Sea but don't know if you've a branch off straight to US or if you route via the London LINX. And again, no idea what goes on between the Middle East and Japan :)

Thank you for the reply, the other problem I have of course is that most of my Linkshell are NA or EU so I am restricted on that side as well. I just want to ensure (like Yoshi-p has stated in his recent clarification) that I have the best gaming experience possible as we all do.
