Did you use the correct user name? It's not your email address.
I've used every known combination of every known username and pasword *AND* actually changed the password to make sure I hadn't forgotten. One should not, however, require a half dozen different logins for one company and one account.
Those are temporary problems
You are correct. HOWEVER: SEcan't afford these kinds of temporary problems if they want to bring estranged players back to the fold. After 3 years and a completely failed first launch, there is a percentage of people that are going to have one problem, say "same fail different day" and go back to their lives.
