I am a lvl 16 and I am wondering what are good combos because I don't understand why blizzard does not hit as hard as the other higher lvl spells. Also I am stuck on the main quest where you have to fight the demon and the guy with the black mask, the one you enter by the pond. Thanks for the advice

Ok let me explain to you how you fight with a THM.

Your main dps skill at the moment is Fire

That skill gives you a buff called "astral fire". That buff greatly boosts your dps with the fire spell but also greatly raises the MP consumption.

Now when you run out of MP due to the "astral buff" you should pick the skill called "transpose".

That skill will turn your "astral buff" to the buff "Umbral ice"

"Umbral Ice" buff can also be gained by hitting with Blizzard 1 or Blizzard 2.

What that buff do is greatly lowers your dps with blizzard but at the same time greatly raises the MP regeneration.

(I should also add that it is best to change from buff to buff using the skill "transpose" the reason is because it instantly changes it. If you don't use the skill in order to change the buff from "astral fire" to "umbral ice" you will need to use blizzard 1 or 2 once to remove the astral fire and use a second time blizzard 1 or 2 to actually gain the "umbral ice" buff so as you can see it takes more time)

So at level 16 you should be fighting like this :

Thunder -> Fire-Fire-Fire-Fire (until low at MP)->Transpose->Blizzard-Blizzard-Blizzard (until full of MP)->Fire-Fire until he dies.

Now you can also of course use the sleep etc spells but that's the general way to fight at this levels.

Also for your problem with the quest Have hi potion and antidote with you. When the fight with the demon starts do not attack the mage and keep attacking the demon. Keep it close so he wont use his range attacks since they hit hard. When the demon dies another NPC will come to help you out so it will be easy after that

Since this thread is already here.

Cleric Stance as a sub action on THM?

I have been using it but honestly can not notice a major difference between the 6 INT loss (INT/MND swap this number will vary by level and gear.) and 10% increase to elemental damage. I am going to assume INT works similar to FFXI (MACC and DMG) at this point. Anyone at higher level messed around with this?
(I am only level 11)

For the above question my rotation is quite literally

Thunder
Aero*
Fire until out of MP
Transfuse
Blizzard till MP full.
Transfuse
Repeat.

*Aero is only available if you have gone and got Conjurer and leveled it to the appropriate level (4 I think).

Hm to be honest i only got my CNJ to lvl 4 or 3 enough to get the cure spell and then i left it. I had forgotten the cleric stance.

I think it could be decent, I mean a lot of the gears share INT/MND so you only lose the class related stats on the INT/MND swap, but the question is does 10% of 20/30 (at least at my level) match the damage from 5/6 INT (again assuming the mechanics are similar in function to FF11). At my level the difference is non-existent, with Cleric Stance seeming to have a lower average damage (more resists it seems).

Hard to tell ideally without a parse, but going forward I will keep testing it. (***** testing bugs, this is about min/maxing!)

I dunno if Cleric Stance is bugged, but when I use it on my THM then I get more MND and INT gets lower :P it seems like it just swap INT and MND. btw in order to fight the demon get an antidote and a hi-potion, use the antidote when you get hit by poison, and use the hi-option when needed, besides that; just burn the demon down as fast as possible. When you get the demon to 15% then an npc will spawn and help you out =)

EDIT: right my THM is lvl 29 :P (any other class is 15 ^_^) (you can still instant lvl any class if you finished the main story in the beta)

Cleric Stance does swap INT and MND while also lowering Cure potency and increasing Spell Damage. It might be good for the first 5-10 levels of THM but after that you would have more damage from INT than your MND and the buff would give you.

I haven't seen anything that says you can cross-class aero. i have both classes above the level of the spell and the only ones i can use are cure, protect, and thunder.

Also, Thunder sort of sucks. 10 seconds is much too short to be effective, especially subbed. Hopefully the increase the duration. I don't know how it fits into THM rotations, but it's lackluster for CON.

Thunder is still good though it does decent damage I believe. But I have to agree with you that 10 sec onds is much too low. I do thunder at the start of my rotation but I never renew it after it goes out.

You can cross class Aero, however it is level locked higher than the level you acquired it as CNJ (which incidentally did not show). This creates some confusion for example I can equip Raise on classes but can't use it in certain dungeons due to level synch, despite Raise being a lvl 12 CNJ skill.

Cleric Stance is only useful for CNJ/WHM when it comes to some extra dps while soloing (behind a tanking Chocobo, though I don't see my Chocobo using any Weaponskill yet, only Cure). THM/BLM is INT heavy compare to MND (quite substantial at lvl 50) and the swap will swap your Attack Magic Potency with Healing Magic Potency, meaning you heal more and hit less.

Thunder sucks, however it uses low MP and adds a little dmg while you Blizzard away to regen MP. Thunder also combo with Thunder II and III.

Imo thunder does not "suck" for the amount of damage it does and the mp it uses. It still sucks though when it comes for its timer.

I just thought I would share my Thaumaturge spell rotation since I haven't seen it presented this way. It's only a minor difference, but I've found success with it so far. I always open with Blizzard so I can get Heavy on the mob and delay the mob from closing the distance between us for as long as possible. As soon as Blizzard lands I use Transpose to get Astral Fire up. Then I apply Thunder for DoT and go through the standard process of Fire spells until I'm out of MP, Transpose to get Umbral Ice up and Blizzard until we're I'm full again. Again, it's just a minor rotational difference, but I feel like the Heavy effect is worth opening with if it can prevent some damage.

Thunder is very important for my "I shouldn't be fighting something this tough" fights:

Cast Thunder and then Aero
Cast Sleep
Wait till the Aero is about out..
Rinse and repeat.

I generally get the mob to half hp in two rotations of the above then I nuke with Blizzard to regain my MP.

It's been highly effective.

Sleep doesn't break with DOT spells?

NOPE! If you cast it after sleep, it'll break the spell.

I know, and I half expect that to change..but quite frankly..it's the only way to fight some monsters as a THM

That is kind of crazy and opposite to just about every sleep mechanic in a final fantasy game ever.

My thought on that, and I've tended to disagree with small DOT's killing sleep... ( and the tactics of poisoning oneself to counter Sleep based fights)

Your Sleep spell stops Cold (or stopped in XI)... just about anything not immune, including many HNM ( when Sleep is sealed first) Just about any Char in ballista... from keyed-up states, likely having received horrible injuries, only recently Cured...

Why should a tiny tickle of poison prevent a Sleep spell capable of overcoming all of that battle activity in one fell swoop?

Now if there was instead a threshold of damage that once the poison hits it, becomes intolerable...

Like that too-hot bowl of soup you pull out of the microwave, and realize about 10 steps away that you REALLY should have had potholders...

That is actually a good rotation to use for the 15 lvl class quest for THM. I still fail in that **** quest when you need to kill 2 guys at the same time. For some reason i get a lot of damage...is that only me?

Could be. Don't know which stage of it you are referring to though.

If you're talking about the stage before you click the jar, you're supposed to just sleep them all and run for the jar.

If you're talking about the stage after the jar, I put one target to sleep and focus-fired the other one since you have help, and made sure to put any incoming adds to Sleep ASAP so that I wasn't taking too much damage at once.

(I also grabbed Conjurer and raised it to level 2 for Cure to give myself breathing room.)

Ah. So you were talking about before the jar.

Yeah, you only have to Sleep them to get past. You still have to work fast against the Sleep timer though. The quest giver actually tells you the challenge is to learn when to fight and when to Sleep and run. Smiley: lol

My lvl 18 Thaumturge spell rotation.
I get good dps.
Blizzard (from a distance, to slow) > Transpose > Thunder (use on long fights) > Fire (cast until mana gets low) > Transpose > Thunder (to refresh DoT. if needed) > rinse and repeat with more fire.

I need a dps meter.
