1. How do you get your own personal chocobo?
2. Is there a cost?
3. If you get the free cat mount from the CE will you have access to it right away?

1.) Hit level 20, complete all main mission quests to that point, join a Grand Company (part of the last mission quest), earn enough company points (via FATEs or GC Leves) to buy a license.
2.) Per use? No, see above for cost of the license.
3.) I would assume know, but nobody knows yet since we don't have those mounts.

I believe it was said that the "gifted" items will be available via Moogle Porters (Delivery Moogle) upon release. So, you should get a Coeurl Whistle in your mail when the prerelease happens.

Yes, but it might have a level limitation on it. Though I hope not. Also to summon the Chocobo to fight you need to buy greens but to use it as a mount its unlimited once you get the whistle.

Yeah I figured they wouldn't let you bypass the mount quest. That's fine by me.

That would be pretty cool. I think that's a lot of open doors for them to create multiple mounts. Kinda like a collect 'em all thing.

I can't imagine a Coeurl being more than an atacking companion. Perhaps if they go that route of giving us more than a chocobo companion to choose from each companion would fill only one role, dps, tank or healer, where the chocobo could switch stances. And as far as conversations on the official forums go, my understanding is that only the Chocobo is currently planned as a combat companion.

Will you still have to buy the license or is that another one of those unknown things so far?

Coeurl Mount

Adventurers will be able to ride a variety of mounts for transportation in A Realm Reborn - including chocobos, Magitek armor and more! With this bonus, you'll be able to hop aboard a coeurl and chase down your foes!
* Players will be able to ride mounts once they have reached level 20 and have obtained a chocobo.

I still haven't figured out how to get my Choco to fight with me...assuming I need to purchase the armor first?

No, just talk to the Wandering Minstrel in your city, he's next to the Grand Company in Gridania. My guess is it will be a quest we have to do in Phase4/Launch, but for now he just unlocks it.

No you can't, at least at launch. Yoshi-P said they were "looking into it" for Goobbue and Coeurl as battle companion.

I honestly wouldn't want it to take away from more endgame raids, low man content, additional FATEs, and other such things to do at level cap but I'd like it. Allowing a mount to become a battle buddy would give people more drive to collect mounts beyond the usual "I have all mounts!" It allows the mount to serve a dual purpose and basically allows the developer to get "more bang for the buck" when it comes to development time.

I can't believe I'll get the cool mounts when I start (even if they are locked)...

... yea this game has me in its clutches. Shame I'll miss the last beta 3 weekend.

What I would love is to have a moogle companion to fight along side me, that would be the coolest companion ever, have a mog knight like mog from FFVI or tactics advance.

And then there can be a quest to do with him to unlock Umaro. Or he can summon Umaro in battle.

Moogle companion would have been way more badass than chocobo companion.
