Beta Test QuestionFollow

#1 Jul 05 2013 at 2:59 AM Rating: Decent
Hi all,

Basically, I've just been invited to the FFXIV beta test. I'd love to play but a) my PC is in a different city and b) I had so many problems with FFXIV on the PC - even after upgrading - that I'm gonna buy the PS3 version.

My question is, if I join the beta test on the PC, and set up a new account, will my character be playable on the PS3? Will my old account be valid on the PS3?

Also, when does phase 3 end?

Thanks!

SE accounts work on either PC or PS3 platforms, they don't care which. We don't know when Phase 3 ends yet.

Has anyone actually confirmed this?

I've been playing on PC for the last few weeks, just got a PS3 Beta code this week. Downloaded & installed the software and logged into PS3 for the first time this morning.

Problem is my SE account appears to be split now between the two platforms. My legacy character (not yet used in Beta) is showing up on the PS3, but not the character I've been leveling lately. On my PC, my Beta character shows up but not my legacy character. Both appeared on my PC character screen before this weekend.

Well if you just tried it then there are server issues and I would wait until everything is back up. I know they addressed the issue somewhere, I don't really feel like looking for it right now though Smiley: tongue

I hope you check into this more and report back when you get it squared away. Or let us know if you really can't get it to work as intended. It's one of the things that we have not gotten to test in Beta.

I'll feel much better when someone has verified that 1.0 characters are indeed available to play on both the PS3 and PC versions, depending on which platform you are logged in on. There was even a Dev discussion about dual-boxing that implied you could be logged onto both at once.

Want more details of how it actually works!

I got a hold of a PS3 code so I'm currently downloading the game now, I'll let you know.

I've played both on PC and PS3 a couple weeks back and didn't have any issues.

There's a ton of posts here & in the beta forums on dual boxing, but no entries I can find of anyone doing so in Beta.

Servers were up this morning when I found this bug. After they returned I created a new character on PC and ran through the Intro to where I could log out.

Went to PS3 and now both characters I created in Beta show up but not my legacy character >.<

Seems something odd is going on with my SE account between the two devices. Character info not all getting through at the character screen? I'll post something on the Beta forums, hopefully it's just a minor bug they can fix. I'll post more here as well if I get any answers.

OK, silly question, but you are looking in the legacy world where your old character is?

Edit: Just logged into my "old" character on our PS3, no problem. I have also previously logged into both characters on my PC.

Perfect!

Logging into the Same Account on both Windows and PlayStation 3

Customers who own a copy of FFXIV version 1.0 and wish to use their account on the PlayStation 3 version will need to purchase a copy of the PlayStation 3 version. It will then be possible to use your characters on either platform by tying your existing service account to the PlayStation 3 version upon launching it for the first time. However, please note that your account will only be able to log into one platform at a time.

If you get a chance, test out that dual-boxing thing.

Will I be able to play more than one character at the same time?

Yes, but it depends on what platform you would like to play on.
If you wish to play multiple characters at the same time, please refer to the explanations below and ensure you have a copy of the game and registration code for each character you wish to play simultaneously.

â–  Windows + PlayStation 3: To play a character from each a version simultaneously
- A Square Enix account (<--- This part is confusing, should be 2 accounts)
- A copy of the Windows version
- A copy of the PlayStation 3 version
*You can register up to eight registration codes per Square Enix account.
*Please create separate service accounts for the Windows version and the PlayStation 3 version of FINAL FANTASY XIV. You will not be able to play at the same time if you register the codes under the same service account.

Can friends and family play simultaneously if they are on different accounts?
Yes, but the requirements differ depending on what platform you use.

â–  Windows + PlayStation 3: To play an account from each version simultaneously
- Two Square Enix accounts
- A copy of the Windows version
- A copy of the PlayStation 3 version
- A PC
- A PlayStation 3 console

The translations above do not seem clear to me. Looking forward to hearing the actual details of how this works Wint!

Edit: I think I understand now. Parts above in bold for clarity.

Check out the post above. Maybe you need to contact the service center to get a registration code.

I'm thinking it's more likely that 1.0 characters are just not acting like normal beta characters as far as cross-platform availability at this time.

You need 2 accounts for two chars at the same time. PS3 version works fine, I was able to log into my PC character no problem. I will try logging in to both PC and PS3 a bit later today but I'm willing to bet that it will boot the logged in one out when you log in on the other system.

You can't log on your SE account on PS3 at the same time as PC, same as you can't login from two PCs at the same time.

The main restriction here, is that you cannot have more that one SE account on your PSN account.

Sure, try it with two characters but the same account.

See the post above. SE is saying you only need 1 account to have characters on PS3 and PC simultaneously.

Seems like this is misleading or just wrong.

Nvm, I think that was just confused in the translation.

I think it's safe to say that you will need a separate account for each character you have logged in simultaneuosly.

I'm still not sure what the registration codes for the service center are for.

Yes it does seem off, so that's why I'll test it in a bit and let you know.

Okay, I tinkered around and found some of this was me.

I seem to recall having both characters listed on the character screen, but right now I'm getting characters listed by world. Part of the confusion was that the world selected by the game at log-on seems to be random so I kept getting different ones on the initial screen.

I've gone back and forth now, all three character slots exist on both platforms. So, I can confirm just linking your PS3 account to your SE account gets you into both PC & PS3, no problems as a couple others have now stated.

Only thing I can't confirm yet is the steps to have my fiancée log into PS3, she has a PC beta key but not PS3 yet. It appears the account name on the PS3(under my PS3 ID) is grayed out meaning only my SE account can be played on my PS3 currently.

This is caused because only one SE account can be linked to your PSN account.

I fairly certain you can only have one PSN account per PS3 EDIT: you can have multiple PSN accounts, one per User Profile, each linked to a separate email address.

So I'm afraid you have already locked your own account to your PS3, and you will not be able to get your wife's account to link with PSN. I have no idea how to undo that, but you won't be the only one with this problem. Try calling SE support center and ask them what your options are. If you planned to have your wife play on PS3, you probably need to unlink your account from PSN, but I don't know if that's possible.

I'm pretty sure it's Sony account, not PS3, that is locked in so he could just make a separate profile for his fiancee to play on, she'd need her own Sony account though.

Yep, Wint, you are correct.

Mezolitik, you just need a second PSN account for your wife's PS3 user profile. Each PSN account needs to be linked to a separate User Profile and email address, but you can have multiple PSN accounts on one PS3.

And I confirmed, no need for my fiancée to even have a PS3 beta key, just need the one key for the PS3, all accounts on the same box get in. To summarize:

> Each PC needs a S/W copy.
> PS3 needs one disk/download to cover all accounts on the system.

In my case my fiancée and I each have our own SE accounts and our own PSN online user ID's.

> PC is pretty much open, once the software is installed anyone can log in on each of our machines.
> PS3 links your online PSN account to your SE user account first time the game starts on each account.
| >> I can't log into my SE account from my fiancée's PSN ID, she can't log in on mine. We have to log into our own PSN ID, then start the game, after the first time our SE ID is grayed out, no option to log in a different user.
| >> This means friends can't come over and log in on your PS3 machine.

This weekend we had some friends over, one brought his PS3 so he could play with us while visiting. Another friend that was over saw the game for the first time and is considering putting in a pre-order. The game really has improved over 1.0 CE. The viewer DRM requirements are a bit odd, but have always been so since FFXI.

Honestly, my opinion is SE should make the viewer free to download and allow any valid account to log in on any viewer. The DRM for an MMO really is covered on the SE account end. Why they make it so hard for users to get software installed and validated makes little sense to me, but it is what it is.

Can't they just sign in on your PS3 with their own PSN account?
