Since this quest pretty much covers all jobs, I thought I'd post this here. (Spoiler Below)

During last beta phase, I got my Conjurer to level 22, and had a heck of a time with this main quest. I tried four times before finally giving up and deciding to wait until the real thing. After a lot of searching, I stumbled upon this article, ( http://eorzeareborn.com/ifrit-story-primal/ ) which gives a pretty good explanation on how the fight goes. Hope this gives insight to anyone else who might be stuck on this fight. Also, if anyone else ( who has completed it on Conjurer) can give any extra tips, they will be greatly appreciated. I flew through these as a CNJ, I actually thought me healing was making these story quests overly easy. I wish I could remember what I did here it was 2 weeks ago so I don't remember.

I think I just killed a few of the mobs then just kept healing myself till the next cut scene. It was actually getting stuck in the dungeon was the hardest. I didn't know I could talk to the guy to leave for the first 5 min lol

That's a pretty good writeup. I made my CNJ's life far easier by being a THM that equipped Cure and Raise and staying away from him, so that we wouldn't both have to move at the same time. That encouraged him to prioritize getting out of the special ground terrain effect over healing, since if he had to move, I could just toss a Cure on the tank in the meantime, and if one person got hit, I helped speed up the healing so that he didn't burn through his MP pool as fast. As a result, we barely had any actual healing to do and Ifrit was really easy.

Edit: From your comments, I'm assuming you're talking about the Ifrit fight part and not the endurance event.

Yes, I'm only talking about the initial solo part of this quest. I think the next time I try it, I'll just worry about keeping myself alive.

Oh, you are talking about the endurance event. I think the advice I've seen floating around suggested getting rid of some of the archers to make the damage spiking less painful.

That first part really is a battle of attrition. As mentioned, kill all the outliers: archers, enemy casters, etc. and just stay out of the main melee. I stood behind the Sergeant and healed both him and me as needed. Pack Ethers.

Running the three starter dungeons, especially Copperbell, to get green/pink +MND gear helped immensely. Skill is important, but that better gear ultimately made the difference for me.

It's kinda funny, they had to send in two waves vs. my Marauder to take me down. I went swinging.

I don't know what it was like for mages but I can imagine some of the fights would be hard.

Edit:

Oh, for those trying, just abandon the NPCs, that's what I did. I dove after the archers and just kept ducking any charge attacks.

Honestly I had a harder time with the mission prior when you have the summoned gargoyle and had to survive it to get the NPC to show up.
