FFXI graphics used in ARR discussionFollow

I fought him a couple times. Didn't even notice lol.

Also, they're not the same. The FFXI one has 3 stripes on his back. The FFXIV one does not.

Pugils, Mandragoras, Qiqirns, Behemoths, Apkallu, Carbuncle is ported... my memory isn't great but most of the enemies I came across were FFXI ports.

I guess you're being sarcastic.

I'm not complaining that they re-used designs and concepts.

I'm specifically complaining that they reused the graphic models from a decade ago, while saying that they're committed to having great graphics.

That's only really a problem if they look bad.

They don't.

Someone mentioned the uragnites above, and while they're a re-used model, I thought they looked great in the actual game. The cactuars look just fine, the adamantoise looks perfectly fine. They have existing 3d models for these things, they used them and touched up the textures a bit. I don't have a problem with that unless they look like garbage, and I'm not seeing that here.

Man...

I was going to buy the game, but now I'm on the fence...

Do y'all think that the DX11 improvements next year will fix this?

The thought of battling a smudgy crab really depresses me.

Then don't go to Thanalan, or just pass Bernie by, he's not exactly a mandatory fight.

And no, don't worry, Crabs don't become your sole source for XP either.

I don't know what Killa is trying to pull over people's eyes here. The textures are redone, even if the models and even some of the move-sets are the same.

Personally, I'm enjoying the throw-backs. They're not been so suffocating that I feel like I'm in FFXI as opposed to FFXIV. I barely encountered them aside from in passing.

And let's be fair. We're talking a complete remake in a year, assets were going to be reused. I'm glad they decided to tap other game models instead of just staying with the ones they had, it adds life and a bit of familiarity to the game.

I wasn't. I've only played Final Fantasy IV through XIII-2, and the Final Fantasy III remake.

Also, the FFXI Mamool Ja, Shadow Dragon, Bees, Saplings, Sandworms are also lazily reused in ARR as well as the other things I listed. There are more though.

But you've only provided a single example of this happening. You've mentioned plenty of unit types that look similar, but you haven't provided any other examples of SE reusing ugly looking FFXI textures.

I find it endearing they brought back the models from the earlier FF MMO. I got my MMO start in FFXI, and seeing the goblins make a return really tugged at the nostalgic heart strings. My only gripe is they didn't bring back the aggro growl from them. That was a sound that made you sit up in your seat, especially in the jungles. It must have got lost in the revamp. But I'll let it slide since they kept the same style chocobo music, only remixed!

I have no problem with bringing back old monsters, I actually enjoy it, but they could at least do a better job at retexturing the models and giving better detail to compliment the age it's coming into. The game itself may be a lot more graphically advanced compared to FFXI, but the monsters they reused from FFXI don't.

AH WHAT! Worms are in this game as well? Those are my second most loved monster in games, right after those crabs, man today is a good day im stoked to play more. Bigmouth Billy and Phantom worm are my boys!

He actually provided several and all you really have to do is log in and look around to see them. Personally, it doesn't matter to me. As I had stated earlier, I'd play FFXIV if mobs were just different colored squares to represent their class or mob type, but gameplay is far more important to me than aesthetics.

He does have a point though. If XIV turns out to be an enjoyable play I will be on the lookout for the mod that allows me to re-skin all the mobs to crabs, in honor of how much I loved the camp variety of FFXI Smiley: sly

He provided only one screenshot to show a mob that used the same exact, decade old graphics from FFXI. Then he listed a bunch of mobs that use a similar model, but provided no proof that they are direct ports over from FFXI.

When I logged into FFXIV during phase 3, I was stunned by how amazing the graphics were. I noticed that many of the mobs from FFXI were present in FFXIV. However, never did I look at them and think "boy they look like pixelated, ugly, direct copy & paste units from FFXI that are surrounded by really good looking FFXIV terrain".

I noticed the Mantis mobs from Adoulin are also in some of FFXIV's dungeon areas. I really don't mind it though, if they were really literally ripped textures from XI with no modifications, you'd tell because they would look out of place just because of the different graphics engines.

Same art style as FFXI? Certainly. Exact ripped textures with absolutely no touchups whatsoever, not likely.

I hate it when people post something then end it with "Discuss". Aside from how the initial post was presented, it's a worthy subject. I'm personally fine with it, there are enough new mobs to make the game feel like a new MMO, and enough from other FF's to make the game feel more FF like and familiar.

I only got up to Lv15 during the Beta and Bubbly Bernie was the only mob that I noticed this texture on. When I first saw it I didn't immediately think they were being cheap, but that they brought back a nostalgic character. I find it hilarious he's using original texture work.

Now, if this is a repeating offense throughout the rest of the game (Straight texture ports, no update what so ever) then I might have to rethink my stance. If that is the case, Bubbly Bernie being a special exception loses merit.

But isn't this your thread of pure facts? Seems to me like you'd want to have as much evidence as possible to support your opinion. I mean you are trying to convince people to believe what your saying right? You seem to have quite the reputation and I was going to hear you out before stating my opinion. Frankly though with such a lazy attempt to mold random banter into fact and how you toss out accusations of the FFXIV dev team being lazy. I feel you fit that term a lot better than those you are accusing. I usually just keep my thoughts to myself when I see threads like this and really don't know why I'm biting to feed your need for attention. Allow me to add a tidbit of info you can decide if its useful or not. Not all of the graphics currently being used have been converted over to the new graphics system. Perhaps revisit this thread after ARR is released if your still as determined to hammer in this point. Maybe then you can make a better case to support your opinion.
