I was wondering if you guys were going to release an app for iPhone or Android that we can use for forum access on the go?

I applied to a linkshell recently and when I went to access their forum on my iPhone, it asked if I wanted to install the app... so I did and it was fantastic!

I immediately thought that it would be great to have Zam.com on my phone too...

The app is called Tapatalk, I don't know if you need to register with them or how it works, but I searched inside the app and did not see Zam.com listed in it.

I hope I'm not beating a dead horse or anything, I'm relatively new to the forum and didn't see any other posts on the topic recently.

Edit: I found a link to add Zam.com if you guys want to use Tapatalk:

I don't think they will do that, our forums are custom built because of the amount of traffic we have to deal with, nothing out of the box can handle it. Paid subscribers can access http://m.zam.com , which is the best we have at the moment. I'll pass along the suggestion though.

Why does ZAM charge for the mobile site?

It's a perk of membership. It's not like they ask for a lot, I think it's something like $3 a month. I've passed the suggestion on to our devs and will post if they tell me anything.

I thought it was because the mobile skin doesn't have ads. Or does it now?

I've always considered mobile sites to be scaled down versions of their full sized counterparts in both form and functionality, so it seems kind of odd to me that they'd charge for that. Hey whatever they want to do, its their site.

As far as I remember, m.zam was a brutally bare-bones version of regular Zam. But now that cell phones can run websites almost on par with regular computers, it seems fairly unnecessary. I haven't checked it in the longest time.

Yea I'm actually using my phone right now with Firefox Mobile viewing the full desktop site. Thats how I browse ZAM most of the time.

Typing is a ***** on touch screens though. I kind of miss the old slide-out keyboard...but my Galaxy S4 is just too **** good for me to care that much.

It's not, it's just formatted to be easier to view using a mobile browser. To be honest I don't think it gets a lot of attention these days, and as far as I can tell our newer forums like the ones for Wowhead aren't terribly mobile friendly either.

What I did on my iPad is simply opened Zam in by browser, then added it to my home screen. Taadaaaa, instant app! Smiley: smile

I've used the mobile site.. it's fine. I agree that with the advancement of phone tech, the entire concept of a site that's barebones enough that a phone doesn't choke and die on it is becoming less necessary.

Definitely going to renew my paid sub to this site soon. It would be nice if you guys considered a mobile app. It would be a great perk for membership and a neat way to tie into the various games you support (real-time game clock/calendars, for instance).

At any rate, easily the best MMO site on the internet, whatever ya'll decide to do :)

I agree, maybe that could also give easy access to wiki pages while on the game.

I used Zam.com back when it was Allakazam (not sure if I even spelled that right, which is probably why they shortened it in the first place.)

Best MMO site around, I always used Zam instead of KI back in the FFXI days, even though I had accounts on both.

I even used it back when EverQuest 1 first launched... yes I've been playing MMO's since before the dinosaurs... but even with all of that my post count total from all forums doesn't amount to your 12k posts... jeesh how do you guys get so many posts?

I've liked how the site has evolved from the original and, well, messy and laggy state it used to be back in the original EQ. Feels like the ball started rolling when Lucy got absorbed in.
