So I was getting ready to start making my character as most others probably are and I decided to do a little spreasheet to see if I could determine what the best build was for how I wanted to play. I have attached a link to see if anyone would like to take a gander at what I've created. If this has already been done, sorry. Also, if anything is wrong in this or if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know. If you hate it you can also let me know by posting your awesome comments. :)

If I've ever seen a riskier click, I can't remember it.

Nice to have the starting stats all in one place.

I don't think that the rating system you have in place fairly represents how much the stats will really matter. There has been a huge discussion about the decision to add racial stat differences to FFXIV in previous threads. Many players do not like having their race somehow represent what classes they will be best at.

The two main themes of that discussion were how much the stats will really matter at Level 50, and if the FFXIV community will be pigeon-holing races into certain roles.

In the end, the ability to allocate points, and the vast amount of stats that come from equipment and materia, make these racial starting stats differences negligible.

I have a stupid question from someone who hasn't played 1.0 or the betas. What is PIE, and can it be of the apple variety?

PIE is for how much MP you will have.

Quote:
- All races have a subrace which is more suited towards “Physical” classes, and a subrace more suted towards “Magical” classes.
- Ultimately, as long as you chose appropriately and build properly, the small differences in starting stats accounts for much less than a 0.5% difference end-game.

Piety. Affects your mp pool I think.

Seems my spreadsheet is all for naught. I appreciate the feedback and will now climb back into my cave to continue creating my character. Smiley: grin

Hmm, as a future melee/tank, I'm amused that I just happened to pick the highest starting stats with my hyur highlander. But, as others have said, the initial stats have such a small impact, it won't really make a big difference. It's not like FFXI, where that 5-6 points difference or several hundred difference in HP/MP make a much bigger impact due to much lower caps.

It might have been less suspect to use something like Google Docs (even though their spreadsheet support sucks). Either way thank you for participating! Smiley: thumbsup

Yeah, for instance.. the "worst" melee race (dunesfolk lalafell) is exactly 6 points behind the "best" melee race (hyur highlander).

Since that difference doesn't scale as levels increase, the dunesfolk will forever be exactly 6 points behind the highlander in the STR department. However, the key there is that 6 points is not a large difference. It is, in fact, an entirely insignificant difference at max level.

As for pigeonholing races, I'd expect that to happen regardless of how tiny the stat differences are. But at least now we can know that anyone doing that is just blowing smoke.. these differences aren't worth worrying about.

Yeah I tried to post one on Google Docs but it kept showing only a screenshot. I got frustrating and searched for another one. :)

Wait so this wasn't a virus? Ha, alrighty then. Yeah, I'm just wary of weird links from people with low post counts. Don't mind me!

The stat differences really are negligible when it comes to high level, because the differences are static. A person who's got a 4 point difference above someone at level 1 will have a 4 point difference at level 50, and so on. So literally as you level higher, the differences matter less and less, regardless of stat impact.

I think it's worth pointing out one small caveat to this, because the stats actually count towards your HP, MP etc. based on your current level.

Adding +1 VIT will change your HP:

3 HP @ LV 1-10
8 HP @ LV 11-40
13 HP @ LV 41-50

So the 4 VIT points is only 12hp at first, scaling to 52 hp later. With that said, 12 hp is probably a larger % of your hp pool at lvl 1, than 52hp is at lvl 50. Therefore, you can still say overall the racial stat differences matter less and less.

What I could not find is a chart of all the starting HP of each race. I'm curious if the starting HP directly corresponds to the 1 VIT = 3 HP, or if there are some additional HP in the pool from somewhere else perhaps. If it is direct, then it would stand to reason that you would see a HUGE jump in HP at lvl 11, and at lvl 41. That's a 266% increase from lvl 10 to 11. Something must be missing from the overall HP calculation (not just straight VIT) because I don't recall seeing these jumps in the beta.

MOAR info needed.

Cracks me up.

As someone who really wants to play a Roegadyn - Sea Wolves Healer I"m glad to see their stats are higher then some.

I doubt it will be a issue later in the game.

It's a very helpful sheet. It's a bit of a shame it's looking like i picked the worst stats for the job i wanted to play, but i guess looks is all that matter really. I very much doubt it's worth switching clans (and getting some weird grey face instead of pink) to be more of a melee guy. Oh well.
