The game looks beautiful in DX9, can you imagine DX11 with latest shaders + tessellation?

Too bad it isn't being launched with DX11 support.

No worries, he said within 6 months it would be patched in, and I was led to believe it is a priority when I spoke with him.

Will tessellation be included? I believe that's the major advancement in DX11.

The sane thing to do is this:

a) Complete the PS4 version first. You can imagine, with PS4 launching close to Christmas, that if they have the game ready for PS4 within 2-3 months of its release it will be able to sell quite considerably. After all, visuals ought to be quite stunning, especially for a console MMORPG.

b) Use the textures and stuff from a) to release a PC DX11 client. I don't think - and don't believe- they will just patch the existing client to include DX11, since people running it at DX9 would have to download additional textures and what have you they don't really use. Unless it's convenient for them, or anything.

Having a second, DX11 optimised, client would help them finetune things better.

Profit!

I honestly don't think that DX11 is going to make the game look that much better immediately.

But it will hopefully streamline things for the PC and PS4 versions and will be a better base for future patches/updates.

As far as the PS4 version, I think it's going to look and run pretty good out of the box and I think it's going to coincide with the release of DX11.

If the new benchmark optimization is any indication (and given its specs), the PS4 version will run a bit better than my PC.

What optimization? I'm asking because I didn't see anything about it posted anywhere. The benchmark performs better, but looks worse for me so I'm curious where people are seeing that it was optimized so if you could link for me I'd appreciate.

My bad. It was an assumption based off of my previous scores from the previous benchmark compared to this new one.

DX11 has done wonders for some older MMOs that were finally brought up to speed. I think where FFXIV currently needs it most is in the water. The water is pretty bad.

Guess it would depend on what sort of hardware you're running with. My theory is that they switched from normal AA to FXAA.

At the very least they enabled SLI, my score jumped 8000 points.

My score on the 'world' bench is only about 1100 less than my score on the 'creation' bench with my settings using forced AA. That's the reason I'm curious about exactly what people mean by 'optimized'. If you know how to force AA, try running the bench again with that setting enabled and see what your result is, then compare it to the old benchmark score.

Someone should do this I think it'd be interesting to see. I think I deleted my old benchmark so I can't.

I'd like to see it done with AA completely off on both benches.

I'm not married to this idea of optimization, but I'd wager that if it was a different AA they're using with an increase in FPS and negligible difference in quality, I'd consider that an optimization.

Well, judging from the fact that people are seeing large jumps in scores over the previous benchmark (my not good computer from from 2000ish on max to 3500) and that the benchmark looks great even on standard, it was definitely optimized.

But they also said that the previous benchmark was CPU heavy and not using physics etc etc.. I'm sure someone will post it.

For me the new benchmark looked better overall, but certain animations didn't look as smooth. Specifically, the chocos. When they were running they just looked jerky at times. Some things did look much improved, Ifrit in particular. This is just eyeballing the benchmark, so I could just be losing my mind.

I'd like to see this as well.

Also I know phase 3 was said to have some debugging turned on, but I didn't know about the first benchmark.

I'm just curious now more than anything. Though given Yoshis communication, if someone really wants to know he'll probably tell us, lol.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to somehow incriminate SE for juicing their benchmark numbers. I'm simply trying to find out why(and I think it's reasonable to want to understand) the numbers are increasing so much across the board.

Most people are experiencing abnormal increases to their scores(ie. Wint's 8k point increase) while using the exact same hardware with the same benchmark settings. There has to be a reason for that and I'm simply trying to figure out exactly what it is since nothing was stated by SE. The only thing (immediately)apparent in comparing the settings between both programs was the appearance of FXAA for anti aliasing whereas in the 'world' benchmark, it wasn't specific.

Since I run with current gen GPUs I don't really have a need for FXAA because I can use higher quality AA, but it would be interesting to know if it has that much of an impact. Also, I usually don my 'good guy Filth' cap in the topics about upgrading computers that pop up frequently. It would be nice to know so I'm not advising people to upgrade their GPU when a simple adjustment to settings(like enabling FXAA) will give them the increase they're looking for without any cost at all.

Kierk wrote:

I'm pretty sure you're referring to the debugging that was done server-side which was leading to latency issues. The benchmark wouldn't be impacted by that.

I'm not accusing you of anything, sorry if that sounded defensive or something.

I don't have an SLI card but I hear they added SLI support and it's made a huge difference. Wint was showing numbers doubled.

Filth, are you using ATI or NVidia? If it's NV, can you PM the settings and which profile you were using to force it. I spent about an hour trying different ones and couldn't get any of them to actually enable AA at all.

Yeah, just putting it out there because I've mentioned it in all of the benchmark threads and get the usual RD with no response.

Adding support for SLI doesn't quite explain the gains. My second GPU is technically in SLI, but dedicated to AA so it's not being used the way it normally would and I still get gains(though not as large as most). In Wint's case, he's getting a 100% increase in performance. SLI is shown to grant a 25-30% increase in performance in the best cases. There's something else missing here...

I use nVidia GTX 670s. I'm not on my rig at the moment, but there should be one of the anti aliasing modes that allows you to override the application's normal settings and force AA to your secondary GPU. I'll be home in a few hours so I can check and find out for sure, but it's not too hidden that you could probably find it if you dig a little.

Wasnt 1.0 DX11 capable? I dont know why they didnt release it this time with it. I personally hate DX9, its tech is very outdated for todays capabilities. Ya the grapgics will go from being a 7/10 to at least a 9/10
