Hey all,

First I just wanted to thank the community on here, been a long time since I've used any type of forum and everyone seems to be nice and extremely knowledgeable! Plus I know some of my questions are probably redundant of other posts from who knows how long ago.

SOOO

Parties

I remember in FFXI (before the field manual and all that) you used to solo levels 1-10 or so, and I have fond memories of LFG in Valkurm Dunes and being in a party for literally hours upon hours and making actual friends.

So my question is will the game be similar or will it be like WoW/ Rift where we mostly just quest and solo and only party for dungeons (Instances) and Rifts (FATEs)?

I never played Rifts or Wow, so I can't say. However, Beta3 you have quests and fates, you're soloing but doing it with many people. You can make many, many friends easily.

It's more like current mmos in the structure, and the Valkurm days are gone, but there's nothing to say you can't make friends doing quests and FATEs and then take them into the dungeons rather than using the group finder. The group finder is great for when you want to do group content by yourself, but nothing will ever beat running content with a group of people you meet and can have a good time with.

If you wanna group up with friends for everything you can :) I like questing alone due to less "linking" mobs( the more people in the party the more mobs pull when you pull no more get 5 people and 1 shot a quest mob). For FATES you dont need to be in a group unless you want to keep a closer eye on your friends HP. Instances are run just like wow and rift. The one thing that I would say always group up for would be Leves. You get a bonus if someone in your party is on the same one. But again you can solo them if you like.

So the only thing you really need a party for are dungeons and raids but thats only if you dont wanna group up for other things.

I'll try to reply to this question.

Solo play is suggested until level 15, until then, it's fuelled by quests, levequest, FATE and hunting log. At level 15, you can add dungeon (to all that), which is the setup for group play.

Dungeon, is pretty much like grouping in FFXI (except that it's in an instance and that it's not a static camp).

Even if there is enough quest to level a character up to level 50 on quest alone (we don't know yet), since you can have multiple job on a same character, it will not be enough for the second/third, and etc playthrough the leveling. At that point, leveling in dungeon with a group will get a lot more popular!

My first guess tell me that the player that want to level primary through solo play will be able to do so, but it will always be easy to form a group for leveling as well..

Pretty much this^

This is a modern MMO, FFXI was one of the first MMO's, but many innovations that make MMO's more enjoyable for a wider audience have been implemented such as Duty Finder...

It's a positive thing in my opinion, while we all have fond memories of Valkurm Dunes and La Theine Plateau... the vast majority of FFXI levelling from 1-75 was a long slow painful grind... and they are not going to repeat that again in today's modern era, that would be suicide.

The best thing about the Dunes was watching another party running for the zone with a Tinker hot on their tail. Other than that, I hope every mob in the dunes dies a horrible death from Herpes.

The first reason of death in FFXI is the words:

"Hey let's try a Pugil..."

Once would could pretty much one shot Dunes mobs a friend and I went through and killed every goblin in the zone. It was glorious vengeance.

The days of waiting for a party are long gone. This is both terrible and great at the same time. Terrible because being forced to party to level was a strong social concept. For example, I was a White Mage and the moment I logged on I was asked for groups because I was needed. Now, no matter what class you are, you are not needed. The only thing your class will influence is your queue times. That is the terrible thing. It is also great because damage dealing classes had it rough in groups, you could sit for hours without even a whisper for a group. I'm sort of 50/50 on this. I sort of wish it were more party oriented though.
