Class suggestion?Follow

I know selecting classes is very much personal preference, but I'm torn on what to use as my strategy.

I almost always gravitate towards magic and support classes and in 1.0 I played THM, but never really got into it (Only level 15). With XI,I really enjoyed BRD for boosting party members and helping out with mobs. I'm considering CNJ so I can be support healing, but I'm worried about soloing with that if I use it as my main class. I still like the idea of going Bard, but not really interested in Archer, although in ARR, BRD seems to be very much damage dealing with some enhancement

Any other thoughts or things to consider when picking my primary class I'll be going to 50 with? I'm going to be slightly more than casual hopefully, but not planning on 50 for every class, so trying to plan out my primary and 1 or 2 secondary classes.

You could consider Arcanist and as a casual player level up the class once but then have access to both the Summoner and the Scholar. You could level up as damage and then at 50 play mainly Scholar for the healing and support, but will still always have access to the Summoner for damage and doing things on your own.

Have you readd anything about the arcanist class yet? It sounds to me like the scholar job from that class might be right up your alley.

BRD is not the same class it was in FFXI. It's more of a DoT hybrid with buffs. Because you unlock it with Archer, that's a big part of the job. I agree with the other posters here. Choose Arcanist and be a a starting DoT mage which you can move to SCH(healing) or SMN DD with pets. The other choice I see based on what you prefer would be Cnj >> WHM.

I haven't really looked into Arcanist, but will now!

I'm having trouble finding much information about it other than it has Carbuncle. Could someone post a few quick links regarding the style and skills?

There used to be a lot of information on it, but SE made everyone take it down because it was datamined and not an official release.

Unfortunately you'll have to wait until this weekend to find out more.

But I do agree withe everyone here that it's a good option for you, you can DPS if you want, you can heal if you want, it's a lot of flexibility for you.

Along with Carbuncle you get a lot of DoT (Damage over Time) Spells, it's alot like Warlock in WoW or Necromancer in Everquest was... a pet class with DoT.

Once you unlock Scholar the DoT becomes more HoT (Healing over Time).

Scholar and Summoner are both pet classes too, but Summoner is DPS and Scholar is Healer.

That's the bulk of what I remember from the info that leaked from the datamining, I can't reference it to double check since it's all been taken down.

First of all, Conjurer reports so far for ARR are that the class is incredibly solo friendly. I have a 50 CON from 1.0, and even in the Phase 3 beta I had more than enough offensive spells to hold my own. If you enjoy healing, I suggest starting as a Conjurer, and then dabbling in Scholar. Those are the two classes that will Queue as Healers in the Duty Finder.
