Question on classes/jobsFollow

#1 Aug 15 2013 at 9:17 AM Rating: Decent
Alright, I just wanted some clarification here, say I want to play a summoner, in order to do that I have to level scholar to 30 and something else to 15 to unlock the summoner, yes? Now, what happens once I have unlocked summoner? Do I need to continue to level my scholar and the other class to 50 so I won't be gimped, or will I be able to leave them at 30 and 15 and just level summoner?

Summoner and Scholar are both jobs that are unlocked through their base class, Arcanist. So you have to level Arcanist (not Scholar) to 30 and some other yet to be determined job to 15.

A job is like a specialist mode for playing the base class. So your Summoner and Arcanist share the same level. You Summoner and Arcanist (and Scholar if you choose to unlock it) will level at the same time.

You don't need to further level the level 15 job that was required to unlock Summoner. However, leveling it will give you access to abilities that you can cross class when you play Arcanist and Summoner. Summoner will have access to all of Arcanist's abilities and will be able to cross class abilities from two other classes (the one that you had to level to 15 to unlock Summoner and one other class). So there's also a 3rd class that's not required in unlocking Summoner, but could be useful to level so that you can cross class its abilities.

Arcanist, Summoner and Scholar will also share bonus attribute points.

Sorry, I hadn't had my caffeine yet! Yes, I meant arcanist not scholar! Lol
But once I unlock summoner there is no need to level arcanist any more since they share levels? That's what I was wondering. Awesome.

Correct. Summoner is a specialty of your Arcanist job, so any level you reach with Summoner, your Arcanist will automatically be should you switch back and vice versa.

It's a pretty good system.
My only real 'complaint' is when new jobs get added.
Assuming the Marauder line gets something like dark knight... everyone who has Marauder/Warrior levelled to 50... will automatically be a level 50 Dark Knight as soon as it is released once they get the soul.
Something just seems off with that to me.
Levelling new classes was one of the things in FFXI that kept people playing, if that option no longer exists because everyone will automatically have max levelled jobs as soon as they are introduced, I hope there is plenty of endgame content to keep people busy.

Maybe some of the new classes will not be advanced jobs at all, like Archanist.

Could be that Dark Knight will be a base class. Just a possibility.

Ignore the level number on Summoner. It shares the Arcanist level. There is no "leveling up as Summoner" because when you're a Summoner or Scholar, you're really just leveling up Arcanist.
