Anyone know if this is possible to set up as doing maximum cures with optimal sets etc has always been a great thing?

They put MND on almost every mage piece, what you talking about? There is no reason to macro.

Yea didnt mean specifically a cure set, but perhaps the gear will have +spell speed which wouldnt help other spells or int for Holy even though its always been mind, Gear swapping for abilities, etc Savage blade equip more gear that boosts that modifier etc.

I don't think you can change gear in combat, so macroing this wouldn't have much of a point. You could always make a separate gear set though.

Thanks for the replies, so looks like no, I always felt this added an extra depth to battle but could be overthinking lol FFXI has left some things that wont leave

My biggest problem with gear swapping in XI, was that characters disappeared when you changed gear sets, which caused battles to be nothing but people disappearing all the time.

Yeah lol it was quite annoying at first, but XI was about doing everything to your full potential, I was career WHM so it was annoying people blinking out at inappropriate times :P

It's inefficient to macro like that in a game, I'm glad SE omitted that concept in FFXIV.

Depends how well you can write macros and they implement it, granted ffxi was pretty bad at it.
Just not sure on how long the game can stay interesting if you dont have to really work hard at anything, not saying you wont have to just that I have not seen it yet or how it will be possible to implement something that is.

It was something that made XI different from other games, where most of the work of an encounter was in the pre-fight planning, gearing, correct party setup and then the fight was normally a foregone conclusion. Compare that to something like a WoW raid where you go into a progression fight expecting to lose at least 20 times before you finally get it down.

Not saying which system XIV should attempt to emulate, but pointing out that pre-fight complexity isn't the only kind.

As far as I can tell, you will have a Crit heal set (with the crit stat) and or a Max heal set (With determination stat) but then the sets I found so far, namely acolyte have both. So this is not a win for you?

Very well worded ;), Possibly only MMO I really got into was 11 so that's maybe the perspective i was missing. If challenges arrive as you fight that make things complicated and not just be able to Tank and Spank your way to victory I can see that being fun and having players with the ability to adapt to situations that have to communicate well. As i have no idea on the loot system besides you lot on it, Drop Rates and Difficulty of acquiring is also something that has to be high for a lot of players to find enjoyment in that challenge.

It wouldn't have been so bad if you didn't lose your target every single time as a WHM when they macro-changed gear...

Although I did like being able to switch gear when someone inspected my gear... Oh wow up until this post I hadn't realized that they don't tell you when someone is examining you now...

I remember having another macro that went something like this:

/em "examines you."

And running around in Jeuno and watching all the people switch gear real fast.

Not really about being a Win or loss for me on a personal level more about seeing how the future of the game will progress maybe I just didnt word it very well. (I loved what I played so far just seemed easy, but that's to be expected with a beta)

Yup, no gear swaps in combat. The jury is still out on non-hard-stat bonuses, Up to level 30 I hadn't gotten any amount of gear for THM in P3 that made much of any difference for spell speed.

I personally will not miss gear swaps. Spending hours just setting up my macros so that I could best "min/max" for every possible situation just doesn't sound fun to me anymore. Not to mention the insane quantity of gear that would fill my bags just for 1 class. I'm very happy with the current system of not needing to swap gear. I'm not saying you're wrong for liking it, everyone's entitled to their own opinions, I just am not a fan of the ideas behind it anymore.

Maybe they'll be better foods. Right now you can get spell increase +%, but its not much. But any little bit helps.

I must admit i used to love the gear changing in XI. Most pieces of gear you picked up through the years from endgame content would in some way help one of your builds. It took a long time to fully gear up a job with optimal builds for certain actions, this was all part of the fun tho for me.

Having said that, this is not XI and shouldn't be be thought as of such. The current system is completely different than that of XI where gear has multiple stats on each piece. So even if you wanted to macro in say STR for weaponskills, chances are your normal idle gear will have STR on it.

Also on topic, you never used to be able to change gear mid fight, i don't think this will have changed.

Just to give you an idea of what boss fights in other games look like these days, this is an encounter out of the current raid in WoW on normal difficulty.

A link to a strategy writeup for this boss.

The model they use to make fights interesting is lots of boss specific mechanics, movement, difficult adds, times of large incoming which forces healers to coordinate when to use cooldowns, and debuffs which force your two tanks to swap the boss back and forth. Also note, that this isn't a stand alone fight but 1 boss in a series of 12 inside this raid.

I really hope they take the slow combat system with very few abilities that XIV has right now and adds some really unique and challenging end game content. The bosses in the dungeons so far haven't been anything amazing, but they at least show that the devs are interested in making fights that aren't just tank and spank.

SE the company actually commented on this on ffxi forums.

Statred that "gear swapping" was an unintentional oversite on their end. Pretty much SE hated gear swapping. It made them hadc to develope it in mind for content and made fights difficault to those who opted out. This forced everyone to gear swap or be gimp.

Everyoine seems to forget that geat swapping and voice chats were not always around in mmo. Yet ppl did them. Also fight complexity in gaming never really changed much just gimmiks added.

And for ppl who like to claim only x% of the player base did x content.

The actual reason for that it wasn't hard. People simply didn't do it because the drama around it.

When i played ffxi endgame, drama was a huge part of the experience people got sick of it so stop doing endgame.
