Or maybe we should just post here. I have made these suggestions to the Admin of this part of the site but no changes.. so I guess I need more people with the same opinions.

I know I'd be annoyed if I was still a ZAM subscriber.

It's not a mess at all. Whenever a thread gets necro'd, it is usually locked very quickly, and I've seen VERY few necros tbh. The admins here do a pretty awesome job of keeping the peace and locking things when necessary, so I think you're completely off base with this. They have enough other stuff to worry about with the recent merger and the crazy influx of people lately. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to archiving 1.0 threads, but by no means is it a necessity, nor do I think not having it set up that way is driving people from the site.

Not to be obtuse but why not just have threads auto-lock after a specified amount of time has passed since the last post? Wouldn't that be easier?

So because I didn't give you the answer you wanted in IRC now you're doing this? I fully intended to talk to the developers when I had a moment but I'm EXTREMELY busy with things that are infinitely more important than this right now.

I wonder if they could lock or delete all threads before a certain time.

It is definitely true that there's really no reason for XIV 1.xx information to even be on the same forum as the ARR one. Since all that information is irrelevant

#6KarlHungis, Posted: Aug 22 2013 at 4:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It's a mistake IMO if the class forums aren't deleted and started fresh for launch, but I'm not a mod so it doesn't matter too much what I think. If Zam mods like forums where 95% of the front page are posts from more than a year ago, who am I to say otherwise?

Simple enough database operation, but probably no admin function to do that, hence why Wint says he needs to talk to a developer to get it done.

Like it was mentioned in IRC, it will be sorted out in one capacity or another.

Why make a stink ? Cause you want it now?

I don't see any threads on the front page from before today.

I think it's due to the low traffic we were getting during the long wait for release. The forums are much more active now and it shouldn't be an issue. Honestly, old posts in a forum are the least of my problems in life. I can't see how anyone would even give something like that a second thought. Puppies and kittens without homes are much more important.

Killua, I was joking. Who actually talks like that?

Other than Dirty Harry, of course.

Based on the context of the conversation I assumed op was talking about the class forums. That's what I get for assuming.

Went and edited my post for clarity's sake.

... some people do.

But anyway, I agree maybe it's not a big issue but I still agree with him that it would be better if they clean it up. Even if it doesn't bother you personally it's obvious that they should clean it up.

@Wint I'm sorry if I put your nose out of joint, but the fact is I asked you in a PM some time ago. You said to wait as things were afoot (now I see the XIVpads merger, I assumed it was that, and its now done). I waited. I posted in an old thread about fishing in the DOL forums, yesterday. Today I bothered to find an irc client and set it up in the hope to chat to someone about it. I was advised to post in the forums, I did.

I want to see ZAM be the go to place in FFXIV as much as anyone.

Here is the issue: anything that gets done needs a ticket for our developer to look at. These forums are custom written using Perl, it's not some stupid PHPBB forum so whatever you think you know about forum administration goes out the window here.

We have a very big project we're trying to get done before the game launches, which in case you weren't aware, is in less than 2 days time. So just because you all of a sudden have this raging desire for squeaky clean forums doesn't mean I'm going to jump when you say to. If you think I'm going to go through nearly 17,000 threads and nuke them one by one you're nuts.

We probably should have looked at it sooner, but we weren't sure if we were even going to keep these forums 3 months ago, the idea at the time was to have a Moghead (not the official name) style site similar to Wowhead, complete with the same kinds of forums that Wowhead has. Now that we own XIVDB, Moghead is not needed.

Once the dust settles down we will look at cleaning up the forums. I can take the stickies down in the sub forums and if anyone has new guides they want put up in their place you know who to ask.

Apology accepted but grabbing pitchforks and torches is not the way to get things done. You caught me today as I was trying to make dinner, feed my son, clean my kitchen, and work on this big project of ours. I have spoken with our perl developer to see if there is any thing we can do about this, I'll keep the forums updated when I hear something but understand it probably won't be for a while.

Thayos or Sovjohn, do you guys want to go through the sub forums and remove stickies? That would help me out a bunch.

As I said I am sorry if it annoyed you and understand (a little) of the difficulties with a big site.

Keeping people informed is always a good idea. The SE beta forums are now offline so those people are gonna look for somewhere to go and I would like that place to be here. A poor first impression won't encourage them to stay.

Once people become invested in a community they tend to stay, **** I'm with the same clan/guild I joined in 2002, I don't yet feel like part of this place, but in the past I have spent a lot of time here. I have plenty of other places to go, so does anyone else so the community has to provide them a reason to stay. Or there won't be a thriving community. I don't see anything wrong with raising a legitimate concern politely, and actually making some suggestions (one being removing outdated stickies - not 1700 posts manually).

I'll check back here from time to time. I wish you all the best.

Smiley: cry

That name is awesome.

Not a fan of the *head style forums, but not using the name moghead for something is a huge missed opportunity

There are a few people I wouldn't mind not posting here.. like 90% of the gaming community. The rest are fine though Smiley: laugh

It's getting really confusing here about what relates to the V1.0 and what relates to ARR. Are there plans to update the site soon? Even a reorganisation of things with pre 2013 threads going into an archive and 2013 onwards into a catch all forum for the time being would help.
I'm sure many others looking here (I'm thinking a lot of FFXI players in particular) will wonder if anything useful resides here regarding ARR and if they find chaos are as likely to go elsewhere.

I would like to support ZAM but until things get reorganised its crazy to even try to look here.

Posters just need to learn to pay attention to the date of a thread. Even if stuff gets cleaned up now, the same problem will happen 3 years from now with threads being made today. Actually, not even 3 years from now. It'll start happening in a few months.

OK but they're not going to be remaking the game again so the information should still be somewhat relevant in 3 months or even 3 years.

The 1.xx information really isn't relevant at all because so much has been revamped.

Agreed.

It's something that needs to be addressed, but it's also making a mountain out of a molehill.
