Free Company question that has nothing to do with the name. Follow

#1 Aug 23 2013 at 5:55 AM Rating: Good
I think we might want to get our ducks (Chocobos?) in a row for the creation of our free company.
This FC will have to function like a raid guild for the most part, and I don't mean that in a bad way.

We will need to answer the following questions soon:

* Who is going to create it? First come, first serve? As I have said before l, many if not all of us should chip in on the cost so that one person won't be burdened with it all.

* Who is going to run it and elect officers, etc? Like it or not, we will have to have at least a cursory semblance of trusted hierarchy, otherwise it will likely fall apart due to trolling and drama (loot whoring drama fest is real, I have seen it and im sure many others who have participated in endgame have as well).

* As far as organization of events goes, I'm sure we can wing it for now, as this will fall in place when the other matters are decided.

Please do not think I'm jumping the gun on this, or that im a super hardcore raider. I'm not. I just don't want this FC to be destroyed in record time due to a lack of leadership and a basic set of rules (who has access to FC bank for example).
Should we be voting on these matters? Just curious. Smiley: smile

Excellent point. I've been overall pretty quiet about joining the FC and LS but I've had intentions to ever since it was first brought up. Without good structure and leadership, guilds/LS/FC tend to keel over pretty easily.

i would love to join it as well as long as it is actually ran by someone and has officers to keep structure. ZAM seems like a great community of people and i believe i would enjoy playing with you guys :D....now that being said are we posting out char names to join up with this FC and LS :)

You need 4 players + 15,000 gil and level 25 to create a free company, so its pretty easy to make one, about the leadership, who was the creator of the LS?

I don't think we've put much thought into it.

I believe BartelX is going to be making the FC, as he was the one who made the LS.

As for leadership, I think suitable candidates will show themselves with time. It takes a bit more than saying "I want to lead." to be a good leader. We need people with the patience, time, and know-how. Right now, I don't think we know of anyone willing and capable of leading the soon-to-be massive ZAM FC.

My concept of the all encompassing FC is that it is akin to a "Social Linkshell" from back in the FFXI days...

If a number of people decide to go on to make a hardcore end-game FC then that would be the time to address all of this stuff...

The reason we're going FC has more to do with the number of people we have for our Linkshell than anything else.

FC = 512 members
LS = 128 members

We broke the LS limit in open beta... which means we need to expand to an FC or make multiple Linkshells which would be very difficult to keep everyone informed.

Now I could be wrong in all of this, but this is my understanding of why we're making a FC.

Event planning in a group like this is likely to not be organised by the leadership (such as it is).

Odds are what you end up with in a community this size is several small groups of people within that are doing their own thing.

So maybe you've got a handful of people who RP, a handful of people interested in serious raiding, a handful of people who focus on pvp, etc. And each of these groups is largely self contained and taking care of their own business while wearing the same FC tag.

Rather than just having one leader and some officers, I'd much rather have a council made up of maybe 6-8 individuals who all have equal say and are equally dedicated to the Free Company... or not even really have a heirarchy at all. I was the one that made the LS, and I figured since I already have most of you on my friends list it would probably be easiest if I just make the FC for ease of invites. The plan was to charge each person a 100g entrance fee until the gil was accounted for, although we might want to do things a little differently, especially if we plan to get Free Company housing, which I think is pretty mandatory. We might want to just charge like 500g per person, and once the 15k gil is reached, put the rest into a fund to build up towards housing costs. Then we can also allow for donations to add to the fund. I'm almost positive buying the largest house (which is what I think we'll want) is going to be crazy expensive, possibly several million gil, so we are going to need a lot of help. I'm also guessing there will be maintenance fees for the property, so we are definitely going to need to work out a system. Hopefully we can make a company bank to use so that we can better keep track of money.

There really is a lot of planning that still needs to be done for this FC, and I think a lot of it will come as we get more involved in the game. For now, let's focus on getting the company made and people invited, and we can go from there. It might be ideal to have someone like Thayos be our Treasurer, since we can be pretty sure he's not going to take the bank and bolt.

I have experience running an end game guild and have no desire to do so again. :) I also don't think it will be as necessary for this group. If Bartel is going to start up the FC the rest can kind of fall in place as we go, people will naturally start to fall into roles, someone will end up being the guy that sets up runs at X time and it will just happen. In a friendly group like this, I find loot is not a problem, it's when people join a guild just to get stuff done and get loot that it becomes a problem. I've never had a loot issue in groups I put together of just friends who want to run stuff.

I'm posting for a different reason though - what is this group (based on the previous beta) missing more of, healers or tanks? I'll be creating my alt this weekend and I have no problem creating something that can help out when I am on. If they're both needed I'll be a tank because MARAUDER SMASH!

I don't know, he's a pretty shifty-looking guy.

Isn't there some kind of guild bank you could use for that? I don't know what the term here is, but the concept is the same.. Just use that to collect funds and restrict cash withdrawals from it.

Thanks for the replies. This is exactly why I brought it up, so the discussion could begin. As Bartel has already noted, some things will require organization beyond self-starting members taking it upon themselves to get things done. Housing costs, Treasurer, donations to the cause etc. will need to be contemplated very soon.

Good stuff.

That's what I'm unsure of. I don't know if that just comes standard with an FC, or if it's built into the housing. If it's the former, we're all good. If it's the latter, we're going to need someone to hold onto the funds until we can open up a company bank. Does anyone know if an FC gets a bank right off the bat?

I suggest that we find out what it the price of the housing before deciding on which on we will buy.

But yeah, I'm all for a FC :)
