Answer a simple question before you let loose the torpedoes of your rage.

Do you believe that the Beta gameplay drove interest in this game up or down?

If your answer is down, please proceed to the logout button on this forum or proceed to OOT as needed. If your answer is up, then I propose one more question for this logic tree.

How many people do you think have decided to go through with a prepurchase of this game in the last month due to feedback/social media/friends having good things to say about this game? In fact, how many people do you think were persuaded to get their friends on-board with this game after the open beta?

Now. Go rage! RAGE!!

yes the 20% who couldn't log into the game throughout the entire open beta really made this game desirable and drove the population higher.

The Beta, or the Beta gameplay?

Most people couldn't even play the Open Beta, so that certainly drove some people's interest down.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

well for one the over 20,000 forum posts on the beta forums.

And realism is not the same as negative.
I love the game
But I'm realistic in realizing how poorly run the servers are

Being blind to the truth is just a coping method to deal with the fact you are wasting money and time
SE screwed up. It's life. Lots of companies do it.
They will hopefully fix it by tuesday
and if not, the game will probably go the way of 1.0.

I think they should have had open beta during Aug 9-12 to find all these server problems, Another one Aug 16-19 to make sure everything was fixed, then EA.

But I would be a happy Panda to hear over a million+ people bought the game ^^

Overall no, of course the beta didn't lower interest in the game, but when you look at it on an individual player basis it didn't help their cause as much as it could have without all the issues. I'll use myself as an example: my wife told me she was planning on playing so I gave it a go in P4 to see what it was all about, and I would have decided not to play it after I got almost zero playtime in due to errors and downtimes. If it wasn't for her convincing me to give it another shot so that we could play it together, I wouldn't have bought the game.

I mean, I'm not crying about it, it's an MMO having problems at launch... nothing new at all, and I'll wait patiently because I'm now financially invested in playing this game, but I do believe that all the issues they had throughout the betas definitely kept some people from playing that would have otherwise bought the game without all the issues.

I doubt you need stats to say that people not be able to play open beta due to error codes drove interest down.

If you are including all betas, phase 3 drove my interest through the roof. I have been paying attention to the game since they announced the re release however long ago, so I was already on board. I had error 90k during phase 4, which didn't allow me to do any instances, but I still put my preorder in the same week. I would say that if anyones interest went down, it was from people not playing the game, and only hearing about all the critical errors going on and making a conscience decision not to be a part of it.

Well, that is a rather good point. For some reason, I was not affected by any issues at all in Phase 4. So, perhaps it is my perception that is off-skew.

I'm sticking to my guns and still awaiting launch through the end of my trial to make a decision, but I have no doubt that there will be some backlash here. You have people who pre-ordered for early access who can't actually enjoy it, people who still can't get past the login to the website to receive their codes, people who finally do overcome that hurdle only to be told they can't create a character on a world with their friends, people who can log in but can't progress past level 10... I mean, it's a list too long for a sentence.

What about the pc players that bought 1.0 but didnt want to play that sinking ship due to errors and such. Then they get told you get 2.0 for free so they dont preorder and dont get early access and now cant play with friends on release because the servers are full and no longer allow character creation. How is that fair to those that dropped 80.00 3 years ago for junk?

The problem isn't badly run servers. Do you honestly think SE would dump so much money and effort i to this remake, that they would risk turning people away by half assing their servers? The people running the game are definatley trying to find a solution to this problem. The *** servers work, yes. But for some unkown reason, the NA servers are experiencing issues. I work as a programmer, and unless you also work in a related field, you can't possibly know how diffict it is to pin down the problem. Troubleshooting is difficult on a single computer let alone a full fleet of servers.

Theres only so much you can test with a beta, and throwing away the servers to get new ones isn't an option. They will find the problem and fix it. Learn some patience, it will take you a long way. Just because your a customer doesn't give you the right to be impatient. ***** if the problem isn't being fixed. In this case, they are working on it. There is no "easy" button when it comes to this so just relax and wait it out.

Both for me.

Version 1 turned me away from XIV. And not just me but many who were fans of XI and who tried XIV, were turned away and had little hope for it.

Move up 3 years and many many many changes, and some of the people above tried out the game and were floored at how much better it was. Basically I was told this is the game it should have been from the start.

I've not even played it yet, and already pre-ordered. I have EA code in my email... I might pre-DL tonight or Monday. I'm hoping I can find game cards at the Wal-Mart in the town I work for on Tuesday (My vacation starts at noon that day :D).

Basically all the positive feed back in my thread on page 2/3 got me excited, as well as reading the positive stuff in other threads. Every MMO has it's issues. I've played so many over the years, on starting day/EA days...seen all this before. I'm hoping for a good game here and it looks like I will enjoy, so I can not wait.

The pre-order numbers are actually probably a train wreck because of all the people that pre-ordered copies and then cancelled once they got their early access codes.

That said, I think SE sorely underestimated interest in the game outside of Japan.

A summation of the various points as to why:

- US folks like an underdog
- Final Fantasy fans have increased in numbers crazily due to Kingdom Hearts and a growing gamer demographic
- Worldwide games are tired of WoW. It's ugly compared to modern games. ARR is close enough to WoW but different enough to be interesting to them. SE wasn't planning on making a WoW killer but they hit the market at more or less the right time to have a shot at it, and it's obvious they weren't prepared.

On the upside, my RL friends have decided to probably re-roll fresh on a different server since Gilgamesh is full of Reditters and won't be unlocked for months at this rate. To them, playing with everyone together is more important than keeping a few days of early access progress, in the long term.

People are impatient and whine entirely too much that or its their first mmo and they've never had a launch or early release before who knows ROFL. I bought 2 copies one for myself and my brother I'll probably sub 180 days right off the bat, I wanted CE BUT... it was sold out months ago sadly. I like the game, it has potential OMFG IT HAS BUGS... its a launch what do people expect.

Testing with a group of a couple thousand beta testers is one thing, opening the flood gates to everyone during open beta or everyone who preordered say 10s of thousands maybe 100,000's + is entirely different. New problems arise when you scale the test size up, and they learn to address them as they appear, they're not omniscient they can only fix a problem when they realize there is one in the first place.

**** myself this is the first time during closed beta, open and early release this morning that I've even experienced the error 90,000 or 10,102 codes myself so some people out there never even experience the error in the first place. And now I'm certain some unfortunate *******'s out there probably got all the errors, and could never connect such is life.

And its not like they're sitting on their hands, Yoshi's released statements about problems they've addressed and problems currently happening. And emergency maintenance's how many so far 3-4, it means they're aware of the problems and trying to fix them. If they didn't care they'd just sit there and do nothing and you couldn't log in at all.

So breath relax it'll be ok, go stretch, talk a walk, listen to your favorite music, go eat something. Maybe even go outside, I know its scary out there kinda bright ya might want some sunglasses I know I wear mine all the time out there everyday lol.

Instead of complaining maybe make a list of things you like about the game, or things they could improve. Last night omfg the lightning during the storms in game was pretty nice. Weather effects +++

That last part made me chuckle.. But yes this all the way. The game is bought and paid for. I personally bought the CE for windows and standard for ps3 spending something like 109 bucks. I preordered and cant even enjoy early access. Phase 3 spiked my interest but open beta and now early access have me thinking twice.. I will give this game a honest shot but I can't help but be extremely disappointed with the way SE has handled NA/EU servers.

I happened to be a huge fan of ff which is why I'm continuing to root for this game but how many peeps new to ff and mmos in general give this game a shot after all the continuous errors and issues? Besides all this, didn't FFXIV ARR break some login records with open beta? How could they not expect an influx of people trying to buy and play this game?

How wrong you are. The fact we are paying customers DOES give us the right to expect the service we paid for to be available on time. If it is not then we have EVERY right to be impatient. The fact you work as a programmer and I do not has no bearing on what my rights as a customer are. Further I don't need to know how difficult fixing the issue is. I simply expect it to be fixed.

This may sound harsh but it is the same expectations my customers have of our company. If something goes wrong its not their problem how difficult it is to fix it. It is mine. They should have easily been able to predict the traffic and test for that matter. It is not like SE is a small mom and pop shop. I am quite sure they have sophisticated forecasting tools and should have equally skilled network tools and teams.

Yeah, we all expected the servers to work. They're not. ******** about it and yelling at the devs from Internet forums isn't going to make them fix it any faster.

The only way to punish them for their failure is to not pay them for the game. Go, return your unopened copy and do not subscribe to the game. Boycott SE and refuse to pay them a single extra penny. That is the only communication you can give them that they will care about.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

It is stupendously good!

Zaarel Is the koolaid good? ROFL no koolaid here boss, I seemed to have misplaced my nikes and white robe somewhere along the way too lolol. What I do have is mtn dew, monster, cherry coke, sweet tea, chilled coconut water, gallons of water bottles, and a bag of pretzels to ride out the early release storm while you complain about being a paying customer get in line with the rest of us.

Low level ZAM rage is good and some people don't like the game before it comes out and will sound the same after it comes out. We sort of like those people here at ZAM it's like a constant marker for the game.Remember SE attempt in 1.0 to control every single minute of gameplay with job switch fatigue, looong leve timers and the horrible after five fights need repair but try to get someone to repair your items so you don't have to go back town scheme. SE ignored the rage and slowly changed after people left. This time rage early to fix things while the newcomers are here.

Oh I 100% agree! But, come on, what are the chances that SE is going to let servers just not work? This isn't really a gameplay issue, this is a technical problem.

It's pointless to have a discussion with someone who blatantly exaggerates facts to prove his argument. Why would I engage a dialogue with someone who refuses to ground their discussion in logic and reasoning?

Instead, I'll just point out that everything he says is supercilious nonsense.

The pre-order numbers are actually probably a train wreck because of all the people that pre-ordered copies and then cancelled once they got their early access codes.

On the other side of this, how many prospective new players said "Hey, a game I get bonus items and early access to that I can try out until the 30th. Sweet deal!"

If they happened to pre-order a physical copy, they can simply return it. I think even if you pre-order the digital download you can cancel it and still have your pre-order account active until the 30th. It's really hard for me to understand why any of this is happening the way it is.

I am only mad that people paid 10-20 dollars extra for early access, and most of the time the servers are down. I feel cheated out of my $10 dollars.

Of course if they gave some extra promotional item, I don't know what it could justify it.

Didn't the guy who does the XIV show on Gamebreaker take time off work for this early access? I wonder how many people did that...

Unless the promotional item has the latent effect of 'Here's your vacation/weekend back', I don't think it would really matter all that much Smiley: laugh

I stopped playing FFXI in 2008, said I'd play WoW til the rumored new FF mmo came out. So, after waiting 5+ years for this, do you think i'm going to blow it off now? Because of pre-launch problems caused by too much interest worldwide?? Smiley: dubious

So let me get this straight... You order a NY Strip, medium rare, Pittsburg-style (if you don't know what that is, shame on you - try it next time - delicious!). You then proceed to get a NY Strip cooked rare... You are telling me to not call back the waiter and demand they fix the order you paid for? You are either joking or one of the 'sheep' restaurants love as they can avoid having to fix the order it because you'll just swallow it and go without making a fuss (it's what a sheep does, thus called... a sheep).

If you PAY for something, than by god, you are ENTITLED to get what you paid for. You PAY for an education (in terms of $$ and work), than you are ENTITLED to a degree. Whether that degree works for you is another story, but your original goal WAS the degree, not the secondary effect of getting a job. And if your order is not fixed or you're not compensated, then you can proceed to rage, yell, and inform all of your friends how unhappy and sub par the quality of service was, which then causes those friends to avoid that restaurant, generating a nice loss in revenue. SE is generating a lot of annoyance right now. The few vocal fanboy/supporters will ask for calm, but people will leave this weekend with a sour taste in their mouth as will the gaming review sites who will write about this.

I'm not sure if you people have worked in management, but customer loyalty is the trademark. You don't tell them to suck it up and endure it when things go wrong. You inform, fix, and compensate. Ever seen how a manager at a 'respectable' dining establishment will ALWAYS come to your table when you complain to check on things? There's a reason for that, and it usually comes with getting an item or meal for free. If they can correct that *****-up and have you leaving with a positive attitude and respect for the company, then they just saved a backwash of negative advertisement and guaranteed a loyal customer who feels 'cared about.'

A lot of you guys may work in "IT-related fields" and "empathize" with SE, but you are forgetting the secondary and tertiary effects of these "known IT issues" that normal people place as a higher value than mere empathy for the difficulties of a trade.

And i agree with you to an extent. However technology is its own beast. Because you dont know how it works has everything to do with this. Setting up a network is extremely complex, and it may not even be because of the server load that these issues are happening. The load doesnt help, but all im saying that this might not be the underlyig issue, which is what they are investigating. Sure its not working 100 percent like it should be, but perfection doesnt exist in this world and demanding it is u realistic. This is why i dont like he north american way of doing things, and i live here. People have unrealistic expectations and that isnt squares fault, its the peoples.

As for forcasting, yes they do have the best technology for forcasting things such as how many people will play the game. But forcasting is just that, an estimate using the best available information. You can only go with the information you know, and like how a business works, i'm sure they even added additional measures in case the forcast numbers were too low. I'm willing to bet that even with that, way more people than they could have possibly predicted are playing the game. How is this possible? Probably because a lot of people either didnt pre order, or just simply did not give any input anywhere which would mean their info would never have made it into squares forcasts. Since your working for a company, i'll presume the marketing department, you should know this.

To be honest, I think it has made the game more anticpated. I simply think even more will be wanting to play the game.
Bad news go's faster than good. But when the neutrals read of this, they ALL know, games at launch have these problems.
The ones in the problems, meh maybe 10-20% will quit after 1 month, but they where going to anyway.
For me, when the game becomes "flawless"...Actually ready for launch, this game will top the market for years to come. It all depends if they continue to invest in the game adding content, adding new idea's, to keep it's audiance, or if they plan to simply add a 10+ level pack with 2 xtra dungons every 6 month.
This game has the potential to behead all MMORPG's out there, if it continues on the path it is currently - anticipation of next moves.

I would imagine as much.

Some people's imagination though, would lead you to believe that SE has a magical pixie wand, and they can just do the magical dance of instant fix, and all the problems just 'poof' away. Smiley: lol
