There is no "idle log-out" mechanism in ARR -Too bad and allFollow

From what we have seen during the past 48 hours, even in periods where the servers were operating reasonably smooth, there seems to be no "idle log-out" mechanism in effect.

This may be convenient, since whoever is logged in is not forcibly logged out under normal circumstances, but it definitely does not contribute to the myriad of server congestion issues.

So, perhaps SE should enable such an option, logging out characters who have remained idle for a number of minutes, such as 10-15?

I'd say 30 minutes. Chances are if I'm taking a break to do something around the house, I'll be back within a half hour. But if I'm genuinely afk for longer than that, I either went out to dinner or to go shopping or do something, went to work, went to sleep, etc.

I agree, a 30 minute idle timer would fix a lot of these issues.

The down side to this would be personal bazaars? Like in FFXI. I would set up shop and go about life (aka: sleep, bazaar all night :p)

Now if there is no bazaar system, then I 100% agree that after a certain amount of time, if you have not moved/typed then you should be logged out. This is how the system works in WoW, on packed realms it is the fail safe to allow others onto the realm.

Nope, there are retainers instead, who do all your bazaaring for you. While you sleep.

Are they even visible in ARR? That was one of the most miserable things about the retainer system in 1.0.... the Market Wards.... ugh.

Unfortunately this would be only a Band-Aid fix. All the errors stem from not enough servers for the amount of people trying to play.

Guilty of this earlier. I went to lunch and left Egg logged in in Grid. Came back an hour later and he was still there swaying in the breeze. Then I made the mistake of logging out to call my mother and a girl I am seeing in Chicago. I made someone's day a little brighter by opening that spot.

I would rather play with error's rather then not at all, if congestion is going to keep being an issue they will have to implement this.

The thing is it's not your fault. The current situation is actually forcing people to stay logged in for as much possible because if they dare log out there is no telling when they will be able to log back in.

Let's just hope SE will fix the whole mess soon.

I've stopped trying to get in. After a weekend of this circus, it might be a subconscious write off.
