When ffxi came out i was 18. I was in college with tons of free time! I played ffxi till my eyes bled out. For about 7 years i played ffxi and i enjoyed it so much!

When ffxiv 1.0 came out i played it as well. From beta and for about 2 or 3 months. I played it hardcore and even if the game was lacking in many aspects i did enjoyed it.

Now i want to play the new version but i'm worried i'm not 18 anymore in college.. now im older, full time job in a good career and a family that takes most of my time. MMOs and specially ffxi require so much time out of you to get anywhere. I do play video games. Normally i play 2 or 3 hours in a day if i am lucky.

Should i just give up on ffxiv and move on. Accept im an adult and mmos dont fit my life or ffxiv is a game i can play here and there and still enjoy ? Does anyone else have this dilemma??

Wait! Something occurred to me. What if i get my girl to play with me. She loves video games too, we play some games together and as long as the game is not violent or hard to get into she will play them to make me happy. You think she can get into ffxiv? Can we play in the pc and ps3 together like ffxi?

XIV is not the grindfest XI was. I have a full time job and a family as well, so I have pretty limited windows of play time and I was able to hit level 22 in the last few days just by questing and doing a few instances... and thats with all of the server downtimes they've had in EA.

No, don't give up on XIV. Even with limited playing time it's a blast and you can still progress through the game at a good pace.

[an edit for your edit]

My wife has been playing with me and she loves it. That said, she's a gamer anyway, so it comes pretty natural to her, but I'd have to imagine that even for players that are new to the MMO world or even gaming in general it would be fun and a good place to learn since she'd be playing with you.

And yes, my wife plays on the PS3 and I play on the PC :)

Honestly I swear this game was made for guys like us. Even a 2-3 hour opening for playing is good enough for some progression. Just keep the addiction in check and remember real life is much more important than that next level!

Yup, everyone above me is right. You don't need as large of a time comittment as in XI just because you don't need to sit around waiting for parties and can solo most of the content. As long as you take care of your priorities first and focus on XIV in your free time, you'll be fine.

Thats awesome.

My girlfriend plays some games with me. We play mario kart and shes pretty good. She plays ratchet and clank with me and soul calibur. Shes pretty smart so i dont have to hold her hand when we play video games.

Her ex was addicted to wow.. pretty bad so she is scared of mmos. she played wow for a few weeks and she enjoyed it.

Whats a great class to play for someone that is kind of new to mmos like her?

I've only played an archer up to this point so I really don't know what the best learning class would be by comparison, but I will say my wife is going white mage (healer) and she really likes it. For some reason I've noticed a lot of females tend to gravitate toward healer roles... not sure why. Maybe it's the nurturer in them? Who knows.

Plus, it's a bonus for me b/c I have my own personal healer wherever I go Smiley: grin

I play with my partner, we have a baby and he has a full time job. It's possible to just play casually!

We met on WoW and play games when we can fit it in around our little family :)

Hard to both play when you have young kids. You have to give time to get time. I did a thousand pounds of laundry, cleaned rooms, and helped my wife out a bunch to earn my pass this last weekend. But we sort of came to the conclusion, at least for now, that we both can't play for the sake of the little one. This game is much more "grown up" friendly than FFXI though. You work at your own pace, except for in dungeons through duty finder. When I get into one, I inform everyone in the house that I am on dungeon time (30 minutes or so) similar to the way I inform the household when I will retire to the toilet and read Game Informer. That way noone expects me unless in an extreme emergency (and then no game is that important).
