26 JP Servers>>25 NA/EU Servers, 80% sales in NA/EU, 20% JP (Error 1017)

Found this thread on the official forums... SE is really alienating their NA/EU player base...

I am very frustrated after 3 hours of trying to log in tonight... Crystal and I haven't played at all this evening.

The only reason I played at all today was because I was home sick through the day.

Here's the body of that thread for your review.... if this is true I'm very ******** let's discuss:

Quote:
So this data is only good as of 8/10/13, however I was blown away by the numbers...

Total Units Sold
North America: 0.38m 53.4%
+ Europe: 0.18m 26.0%
+ Rest of the World: 0.15m 20.6%
= Global 0.71m

So I logged in, and during character selection, I counted the servers available for JP vs NA/EU and to my shock this is what I found:

25 servers for NA/EU
26 Servers for Japan (plus the rest of the World)

No wonder Japan doesn't have any network problems or trouble logging in. North America + Europe is aprox 80% of the sales, we should have 4x the servers of Japan. We have 25 servers and should have 100 to expect to have the experience Japan does.

Here's the link to back up my numbers:

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/35106/f...-realm-reborn/

Square Enix knew how many preorders and 1.0 players they had, and what data center's servers they would play on. So the question I have is why?!? Why would you give one less server to NA/EU when we have 4x the customer base than Japan? It's no wonder why we have these issues. It's clearly not the code, as your code works fine on JP servers. The game runs fine when you limit our logins, again a sign of you not having enough servers, and allowing for too many people to join a single server.

/Sigh...

So very frustrated. This could have been avoided. Bad business decision folks. To everyone one else experiencing 1017 I hope Square pulls their heads out from their A**. I for one am already expecting game credit time after reviewing this info, and free server transfers should be right around the corner to fix your mistakes. I want this franchise to succeed, but so far it's been

/Fail...

So again I ask you Square, Why? And do you really want my money? My patience is wearing thin!

#1, those are 1.0 sales figures.

#2, SE requested that JP sales figures of 1.0 not be shown (until they've had a chance to make up for their mistake) so those figures are unknown due to national compliance with their request.

Let me contribute with a bit of extra information pertinent to this issue.

While every pre-order in USA and EU granted early access in Japan only the physical collector's edition had it, in other words the number or players expected during the early access on Japanese servers was much lower than the actual sales as not everybody purchased a physical CE.

Food for the thought.

FWIW, those numbers are for all time (including 1.0). These numbers here (from the same link, different tab) are closer to possibly being 2.0 related:

USA 2013 31,166
EU 2013 17,800
Total 2013 58,918

Cool, well I hope you're correct.

This is still BS that they didn't buy enough servers to handle the players for EA.

It takes a bit more time than you might think to arrange for more servers.

Another things to keep in mind is that Japan has been going through their own set of issues with their currency, which of course affects how they're able to spend their cash overseas. It sucks, but I'm sure they're dealing with some very real business limitations. Don't want to come off like I'm defending them, because whatever factors led to this situation likely could've been avoided to some degree. But there's a lot reasons why the cash may not have been devoted to a larger number of servers to cover NA/EU, very few of which are looking good in hindsight.

#3 Any EN version that is not NA is insta-EU. I have EU version, I pay in EUR and I live in Australia and play on JP server (because in NSW we're only 1 hour ahead of Tokyo). Might not be too many people but that's how it works.

ARR hasn't officially launched here yet. All there is are pre-orders that can be canceled and no actual sales yet (except maybe for some nonrefundable early access downloads). We won't really know any significant ARR sales figures until a week from now and what is out there is just from 1.0 but with no data from Japan.

Also as kenage said, in JP only CE has Early Access. All the JP players are either 1.0 Legacy or CE during the past 3 days, the mass still not in yet.

The figure is actually non-JP sales only. Xoie already said they withheld JP sales figure, it could be way higher than those or it could be lower.

Ok, fair enough. But this problem began to rear it's head 10 days ago minimum. Surely they could have done something by now? I mean, think about it- they don't even have space to accommodate the EARLY ACCESS people. Now that we are at launch, the problem seems as though it's likely to compound.

SE is basically a console game maker. The only experience they have with mmo's is FFXI, which while successful, was not HUGE. I have to believe they had no expectations of the wave of NA/EU players waiting to hear anything good about ARR... they hoped for a good launch, that's all. The wave turned into a tidal wave and now they're swamped. The game set records in the beta tests, they had a million sign-ups for beta. There was a definite clue there.
That said, this is a good problem for them to have, as long as they get their butts in gear before this mess starts seriously turning people off. The non-existent queue system is a huge problem imo...telling people to just try again sometime is a slap in the face.
Next problem up (IMO) is the stupidly designed, convoluted confusing mess of an account registration. The cute drawings aren't amusing when you get an error just entering a credit card number. :P
Insomnia sucks even more when you cant even log into the game at 3am. /sigh

Honestly, they should of staggered release. They aren't experienced enough to do it the way they're trying to. Also they seem to of expected a big takeup in Japan and from what I've seen it's not happening.

Well....not reallly. You know, since America dropped 2 atom bombs on the country due to impatience and all. Japanese are quite timid usually and very respectful so they will not show it openly that often, online is a whole different thing. I used to quite often face hostility in JP FFXI parties, till I told them I was from Europe and suddenly they loved me.

Well considering they just added on the lodestone that they're expanding the servers in Japan due to congestion with the official launch yesterday...I'd say they got more than expected.

They're doing what to the JP servers because why?! If they expend the JP servers and leave the NA/EU servers in the condition they're in, I will honestly consider getting a refund. That would be more than unacceptable.

Whoa, don't be hasty there. All because they're expanding the JP servers doesn't mean they're leaving NA/EU servers to rot. It's obviously easier to address JP server problems considering that's their homeland and all that. It doesn't surprise me that doing the same for NA/EU servers is going to take a little more time.

Oh I agree, with us it's we're limiting logins, them it's limiting but a fix is coming.

Regarding Congestion in Japan Data Center Worlds (Aug. 27)
Thank you very much for playing FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Currently, an extremely high number of players are enjoying the game. Should the number of players continue to increase at the current pace, there is the possibility that our expectations and server capacity will be greatly surpassed. Therefore, in order to maintain a stable gameplay environment, we are implementing login and character creation restrictions.

In order to be able to welcome a drastically greater number of players, we are starting as early as this week with preparations to increase our facilities, to be ready by early next week. Until that time, we will be continuing to implement these restrictions as required, and we ask for your understanding and patience.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and once again thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter

If the servers were not split into two groups and labeled JP and NA, would more players be willing to start on the JP servers?

There is space there going un used while NA players complain about no access.

I think the real problem is everyone is trying to get on a server with their friend, or a friend of a friend, or a friend of a friend of a friend that is on a Legacy server or had a predetermined NA server.

Ideally, first time players with no affiliation will start on the JP servers, because of the current login restrictions, and that will help in the long run (more than extra servers).

As one who really wanted to buy the game, but currently will not due to the total fail of SE in regards to servers and customer service, I am unclear about the JP servers. Is all the quest text in Japanese or English on the JP servers? In beta, I only played on NA servers, since I have friends/family that were playing in the U.S. I speak Japanese, so have no problem with playing on a JP server, especially since I live in Tokyo, but the people I play with live in the U.S., and, of course, the one unofficial Oceanic server was locked within about 2 min of early access.

Any insight on how playable a JP server is for those with no Japanese ability would be helpful, thanks.

Only difference is where the servers are located.

There is no possibly way that new hardware can be for the JP center only... I'm sure they're doing the same thing with the NA data center, and at the time of the last update, they just weren't ready to release that information for whatever reason.

Again, this game is too important for them to make such a huge mistake.

Something else to consider: SE has currently locked down 25 servers from new character creation. In that list of 25 severs, 6 of them are NA servers (3 Legacy, and 3 non-Legacy). In comparison, 19 JP servers have been locked down (4 Legacy, 15 non-Legacy!).

If the game's population was truly just 20% JPs, it wouldn't make sense for 3 times as many JP servers to be locked as far as total population at this point.

If the jp servers are flooded with eu and us players, you will see performance issues due to latency. That is a guarantee. There is a reason the servers are labeled separately.

Yoshi should ninja edit this into his previous post about the NA/EU data centers and the adjustments they had been making.

Anyway, apology accepted.

You are both wrong.

Japan has its racism and xenophobia but I don't think it's necessarily notorious for it (anymore).

"Japan loves America" is also wrong though. Every country has bigots, etc

I highly doubt it. Montreal is almost as far from me as Japan. If things are that sensitive to get latency issues pretty much everyone in the EU is screwed since there are no servers on their continent.
