Sudden drop to 2 fps?Follow

#1 Aug 26 2013 at 9:51 PM Rating: Good
This is the first time this has happened to me in... well... since I started playing back in 2.0 alpha.

I was running along the path in Gridania on a newly created character, and my system went berserk. Lag so intense it felt like FFXI's Dynamis with 64 people when you forgot to turn off your AV. (First thing I checked, by the way.) It took me five minutes to get the client to actually shut down.

I know my CPU is the weak link in my system, but this game was running as smooth as silk just minutes before. Task Manager said my CPU was at 40% usage. I have a pretty hefty video card (well, it was last Christmas when I got it) and 16 GB of RAM...

Anyone else experience this? I'm hoping it was a fluke.

Gonna let someone else have my server slot for the rest of the evening.

Bummer. Could it be a hardware heat related issue?

To make server space for players. SE is now causing your computer to break so you log off. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Just saw someone in game yelling about the same issue too.
New bugs? lol

I know some people have been reporting some pretty bad slowdown with NVIDIA cards.

My 320.49 nvdia drivers repaired twice tonight while just crafting I put it off on heat and still didn't log out and played without sound. That never happened before.

This has been an issue for me since beta p4 actually. I tried running at a lower resolution, but the same thing happens. Sometimes it crashes right after and sometimes I get lucky and I stay in. It happens frequently even. I have a amd 7970 gpu and just like you it doesn't even have to be pushed when this happens. It has happened for me in a lot of different situations, dungeon, running in a city, running outside a city, a lot of the time it actually happens as I stand still and just when I hit the teleport button or return it starts. Not really sure what the issues is, but it is very annoying especially at times like this when a crash usually means no more gaming since you will most likely not get back in. If you find a solution (if it is an issue that stays for you) please let me know and I will do the same.

Well am on PS3 and have been having some crazy lag issues lately,
It happens especially during certain FATE events
#9 Aug 27 2013 at 3:02 AM Rating: Decent
It's most likely server issues. If it was running fine before it's likely to not be a PC problem.

Yes, but what about outside of a FATE? It's pretty common knowledge that you're going to get a bit of lag on the PS3 while in a FATE since there are usually multiple people and LOTS of skill effects going off.

Edit: As far as the topic goes, I can't say I've suffered from 2fps (!!!), but I agree that it sounds like a hardware issue. I'm not saying it can't be the client at all in some way, but it definitely involves mostly the hardware. It may be that the card companies need some new drivers to play nicely with the client (sometimes they release new drivers just for one game or other software).

7770 here. That makes me suspect a drive issue suddenly. It did almost feel as if the driver just stopped working and handing the game processing over to on board XD

EA update confused my laptop and it kept trying to launch with the GMA instead of 670M. It took a bit to get it loading with the right GPU... not sure if that pertains to your situation but might help others

I actually had the same thing happen to me and oddly enough it turned out to be my USB headset. I unplugged the headset and everything went back to normal, albeit with no sound the rest of the session.

Eastern shroud around 10pm PST in Ultros was ridiculously slow last night on PS3. I couldn't see or target anything for at least 10 seconds. Makes me happy I have Blizzard II. Once, it even just popped me to a black screen and then back into the log in screen. I started to panic, but by some stroke of luck I was able to log back in immediately. Once I got back in I ported out of Shroud and it was better.

It felt like that for me too actually. When it happens usually the gpu turns completely silent compared to before. Do you thnk a driver update/"backdate" could solve the issue?

It's worth testing. I think I'm actually running on beta drivers. I'll check my driver version after work and see if a roll back / update fixes it.

There is a spot in Gridinia, where you are facing the Adventure's guild right before the zone to the Central Shroud, where it lags really heavily for me. I've got an i7 3820 and dual gtx 770's and I'm running settings on maximum 1920x1080 and the frame rates just plummets down to the low 20's. Is this the area you're talking about?

This was right in front of the amphitheater for me. I have that same plunge down to 20 fps in Ul'Dah around the aetheryte, but what I experienced in Gridania was ten times worse.

This happened to me in phase 3.

I thought my video card was going out. I reduced all of my graphics settings and the game ran better.

I decided to restart and everything went back to normal. I concluded it was a driver issue.

Happened to me again when I teleported, and then I got stuck in between zones. The UI stopped responding so I couldn't call a GM or exit the game normally.

At least I'm in a sanctuary so woo, rested exp next time I defeat 1017.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 660ti that is about a year old, and I just had a similar issue. Screen went black, then when the game came back on I was at 10-20 FPS, super lag and couldn't fix it. I was on a rolled-back driver (314~ I think) due to some issues with FFXI. Updated, but fighting 1017 again.

I had another issue earlier this evening where my screen turned pink and sounded like a mix between a weed-whacker and Barry White. Had to shut the whole PC down for that one.

I posted a thread about this problem with the screen going black and fps dropping to 10-20fps. To fix this, I uninstalled the drivers through control panel in the "add/remove programs." Then I went into control panel ---> device manager ---> display adapters ---> properties ----> clicked uninstall drivers. Rebooted windows without any nvidia drivers and installed a fresh copy of the 320.49 driver. Haven't had any problems since.

You can tell it's a clean driver install when windows reboots and the screen defaults to 640 x 480. If you have any other trace of drivers, windows will display your monitor's native resolution.
