same thing, me and the better-half feel bad for him because we know that the problems this time around are a tech issue and really have nothing to do w/ him directly. He has done an amazing job from 1.0 to 2.0. People seem to forget that 1.0 was a bit of a bomb, not due to tech issues really but the over all game was bad, no offense. But, for 2.0, the game itself is amazing, assuming you can get past the tech issues blocking it. I hope they sub this video so we can understand what he is saying. Me and the better-half have stuck it out this long, waiting a little longer won't kill us.

Wow, I feel terrible for Yoshi. You can tell he's poured every ounce of himself into this game, and to have this happen just stinks. Cheer up Yoshi, there are still TONS of players in-game every time I get to log in, so you've obviously done something right. Iron out these server issues and everything will be fine.

Say what you want about the release, this guy is pretty interesting. It was a huge risk taking on this project (especially with all the scrutiny and volatility that comes along with the MMO community).

The game itself is sick. It's just the technical stuff that is causing the issue. All of those things are correctable. Once things iron themselves out, the game will be a hit.

I can respect a man that cares so deeply for his work that he takes successes and failures personally.

No worries! He basically broke out in tears because of the stress finally taken from his shoulders.
He is not that upset by the launch difficulties, hahahahaha!!!

Smiley: lolSmiley: laughSmiley: lol

After turning back to the audience, he explicitly thanks his whole developer team for the stunning
remake they managed to deliver in about 2 and a half years, while a new MMO usually is in the
making for 5 years minimum.

Yeah, I left 1.0 because it wasn't fun to play...ARR so far is an amazing game play experience. I get super frustrated when I can't log into the game, but I'm not going to quit over it. I know things will calm down in the coming weeks and we'll have no problems playing. Yoshi did a great job and I'm happy he's taking it hard....because it means for great things in the future.

We are talking about one mans labor of love for the last 2+ years. He has delivered a game that will single handed turn around SE's balance sheet. I can understand his frustration at the situation. I would probably cry too. The game IS awesome despite the technical difficulties. The story is amazing and I have already lost countless hours of sleep and plan to lose many more over the next year.

Once again, guys, no worries! He said the launch was not as smooth as expected, but that part
covers only the first 10% of the speech.
The rest is thanking his staff and the players, thinking
about how to make sure players will recognize the game as being "worth the whole trouble",
and a lot of stress that almost visibly shatters on the stage.

P.S.:
Additional servers will go online at the beginning of next week. They were really overwhelmed by
their own success, apparently, and didn't imagine such a vast influx of new players and returnees alike.

I highly doubt lots of people on this forum have ever been under as much pressure as Yoshi. He deserves immense amounts of respect and is very talented.

He seems to actually care. Compare this to Producers/publishers such as Gamerforge who continued milk games until the server closes and then move onto the next money maker (Currently its Tera, which is going down the pan fast and wont be around long).

Most people would hide behind their employees and throw the blame around, but Yoshi has the balls to come out and address people in person. This is amazing.

The passion is there, and this is very rare for a corporation.

I don't know if he's crying about the server issues or not, but you can tell that he's definitely passionate about his work. As long as Yoshi continues to care, the game has a bright future. Once they level out the server issues, this game is going to explode in popularity, I don't doubt that one bit. It already has, honestly.

Just get the servers running smoothly and I'll throw my money at SE.

I think they have all done very well considering. The software designers in Japan did great work, it was the network specialists in Canada that messed up.

Same here. I don't think we were wrong to get annoyed, but it doesn't defeat the fact that the game has come a long way and they've really engaged the community and allowed us to have a hand in its improvement.

If a month from now things are running smoothly, that will reflect even more positively on this game, Yoshi, and his staff.

He could have never anticipated so much people being so heavily interested in this game. Yes, they need to implement servers, yes, the initial hiccups and lock-downs will leave a bad taste in some people's mouths. But the game... it's impressive. The task done is monumental and unprecedented.

I feel sorry for his grief and further angered still by the poor conduct (note, not the frustration) of the NA/EU regarding this issue. The video shows without a doubt that this man has poured his heart and soul into this game, and it reflects in the game itself. Servers are just pieces of technology that can be broken and fixed. An experience like the one the development team headed by Yoshi P has given is priceless.

This time of difficulty will pass, and the game will thrive onward. Those who admonish the login difficulties will be more than welcome to return when they are addressed. The game is worth it, in my view, and my experiences within thus far have proven it to me.

Look, the game itself is fantastic. To go from 1.0 to ARR is nothing short of a god given miracle. No other MMO has actually stopped, killed the old version, and rebuilt from the bottom up. That is an accomplishment that reaches legendary status. He and his team have nothing to be disappointed about on that aspect.

It is the service aspect that crashed and burned. It is not dead in the water, but it is problematic and needs fixed. Account problems, login issues, server capacity... while part of the game experience, are a black mark on the package, not on the game itself. But like all things, it can be fixed and improved. They showed that with the game... Timing of it though is awful.

Best game of all time is being run on the worst servers of all time. It's not his fault. It's the management that makes the decisions everyone is paying for. All the same, even the brass knows that having a successful MMO does more for their bottom line than just about anything else they can do, so FFXIV will be running great soon. I have faith in this. If not for the fact that the bean counters in Corp Finance will make them upgrade this stuff.

This comes straight from reddit, for the same video:

Quote:
TRANSLATION:
Disclaimer: I listened through this once and translated it as I went, and am also drunk. However I am a professional translator for a tech company and the below is probably 90 % correct.
From here on out is the beginning of the speech
I'm tearing up guys.
First of all I want to say that I sorry for having to going into maintenance of the NA/EU servers. I want to apologize for taking precious time away from players during early access. From here on out is a long journey/ starts to tear up, crowd gives encouragement Its almost been 3 years since I took over development for FFXIV.
At the time I hadn't been involved with the game that much and thought that it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I've always loved final fantasy and have always loved mmo's starts to tear up again. At the time, I gathered the team together and told them that we were going to remake the game just two days before we announced it to all of you on December 2nd.
I still remember it now, but at the time, we were in a studio like this one, and Souken (current director of game music) was in the background checking my mic levels. I clearly remember him standing there give me a guts pose (one fist in the air, think rocky) but at the time I had the same kind of worries as the players; how is this really going to turn out?... Isn't this going to be impossible.... pauses
But one by one I got support from all of you. It was said in the questions earlier, but normally an mmo takes 4-5 years to create and carefully plan. Earlier, Wada said his role is a tank. I had the same idea of being a tank when making this game. Up until now I have gone through each facet of the game (implies that he also bore all of the responsibility).
But I am not saying that it is just me who made FFXIV ARR. This was all due to the players around the world, the core staff here, and the hundreds of staff not here today. I came here today planning on not crying, but today we have final taken the first step with ffxiv arr. And it is only the first step. Honestly I don't think we have any time to rest. We are working on patches and expansions.
More than anything I want to thank the players, especially those who started from the original ffxiv, and those that have joined out community. Thank you all for all of your support so far. I only hope that we have released a game that will not bring shame to square enix. from here on out there is no finishing an mmorpg. FFXIV:ARR is not a game that we made alone, but a game that we made along with all of you. From here on out we home to keep creating this game from here on out, from this place with you for 5-10 years.
I again want to say thank you for all you have done so far and we hope for your support in the future. bows

I like how each time Killua posts does it in a way that he will give a piece of "news" (lol) but he will twist it so much to serve his trolling. That sir is a great trolling attempt.

Nevertheless Yoshi is obviously moved that his work/project is finally over and he is again obviously happy that people liked it thus why he is crying. Not say I know japanese but for me it is kinda obvious since it is the launch.

He teared up before he got to talking about the server problems - he was clearly emotional about the effort to make the game and how well he thinks the team did. I found the apology about the server issues rather short and vague, actually (I live in Tokyo, and speak Japanese).

In a land where honor is everything, I think he feels that he failed. He didn't fail, he delivered a wonderful game and I am totally addicted to it. The server issue was frustrating, yes, but I will always see Yoshi-P, and his team, as a success.

This man deserves our respect and support. I've got to give it to him. I can't imagine the stress he must be under.

These server problems are annoying as ****, but they will be fixed soon, and then we'll be left with this fun, amazing game.

Yoshi-P did it!
