Yoshi-P gets emotional at launch eventFollow

#52VorpalSpork, Posted: Aug 27 2013 at 9:40 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I totally don't understand the apologists like this. SE, and by default, Yoshi, chose to do almost no testing of the NA servers, apart from a couple of days, which showed massive infrastructure problems. They could have either started testing much earlier, giving themselves time to fix the massive infrastructure problems, or, delayed launch to make things run smoothly. They did neither. Then, once the errors manifested, both in beta and early access, how many dev posts did we see in the forums - I'll give you a hint, its a number less than "1". The news posts on Lodestone have been very few and totally lacking in explanation or any details about how or when things will be fixed.

I have to give him props - so far the game is a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

I'll justify the request as an effort to improve and grow the community. I've been reading these forums since 1.0 and this guy always stirs up trouble. When you have newbies and veteran posters agreeing on this guy's posts, that they are universally troll posts, and when you see that name you already know what to expect, I'd call that damaging.

Now here he is trying to frame a video of the producer for the game this forum is themed for as a weeping over technical difficulties instead of what it actually is, tears of joy from completing a difficult leg of a journey, I call that damaging to the community as a whole.

Who's "we"?

He does apologize for the server issues, and he does cry. I'm not a Japanese speaker, I just wanted to share the video. It's clear that Yoshida has a lot of emotions running right now

Why so many people feel a need to kiss Yoshi's **** for the massive, preventable, failures, boggles my mind.

I'm not kissing his ****. I'm relating to his experience of pouring his heart into something and having it not go smoothly. I've had it at my job and it sucks. Overall he did an amazing job with 2.0, its a fantastic game if you take out the tech problems.

You're an idiot if you think they wanted this to happen or didn't plan for it. Certainly they saw the problems with the servers, but thought they could handle it and manage through it. You don't exactly just go on Amazon and have new servers overnighted, set em up, and hit go. Its a monumental and costly undertaking, and they've said they're working on it.

A labor of love. Pure and simple. I don't need to understand the language to see it in their eyes and on their faces. They worked hard, and despite some beginning hiccups, they really pulled off a great game. A game that was dead to begin with.

Kudos Yoshida-san. Kudos.

Kiluah, you could just change the title of this thread to something more fitting to what is actually happening in the video, now that you are more informed.

Or, someone could start a new, better thread to discuss this video... One that accurately portrays what is happening.

This really is a beautiful moment!

Regardless of the context, it's pretty apparent that you're deriving a lot of joy from this, despite your attempts to claim otherwise... or maybe you would have added a little more detail to the original post beyond DIRECTOR IS CRYING LOL.

Normally I'm resistant to your stupid attempts at trolling but this time you were successful, and you actually ****** me off. I'm sick of your overwhelming negative attitude about all things pertaining to this game. It's not a question of being critical, it's a matter of being a douche. If you really feel so deeply scorned by SE, hate the product, and are basically so devoid of normal human emotion that you can't adequately understand a let down reflex... I'll ask what several dozens of people before here have asked before: why are you still here? Do you think you're some voice of insight, or even worse, reason? Newsflash: you're just a ****.

I only made one bithcy-post, but it was aimed at the lack of communication about what they're actually doing to fix the issue, instead of simply limiting logins. I do feel bad for Yoshi and the team, this is their baby, and it's already had some terrible teething issues.

It is a wonderful game, and I will definitely be playing it for years to come.

A lot of players are disappointed right now because they've been looking forward to this game, know how close they are, and just can't get into the game. And if players have been anticipating this game that much, just imagine how much Yoshi and his staff have to feel right now. They've been working on this game for over two and a half years. And now that the launch is finally here, instead of being able to celebrate this occasion, they're having to scramble to solve server capacity and congestion issues.

Nothing wrong with crying especially when you're passionate over something.

It's ok if everything doesn't go perfect, it's ok if you fail.

What matters is, what you do after that.

I don't like all the directions Yoshi has taken. But you can't deny all the hardwork the team put in getting to this point.

This was exactly what I was thinking while watching the video. From what I have seen so far, I tip my hat to the ENTIRE FFXIV team, right down to the receptionists and janitors. I would love to be playing right now, but I'm getting that pesky error code.,.. It's not going to ruin my outlook on the game as I know they will get the issue fixed.I'd also like to thank the OP. I seriously doubt his intentions were good for posting the video, but it really showed me how passionate Yoshida is for this game.

Disclaimer: I listened through this once and translated it as I went, and am also drunk. However I am a professional translator for a tech company and the below is probably 90 % correct.
From here on out is the beginning of the speech
I'm tearing up guys.
First of all I want to say that I sorry for having to going into maintenance of the NA/EU servers. I want to apologize for taking precious time away from players during early access. From here on out is a long journey/ starts to tear up, crowd gives encouragement Its almost been 3 years since I took over development for FFXIV.
At the time I hadn't been involved with the game that much and thought that it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I've always loved final fantasy and have always loved mmo's starts to tear up again. At the time, I gathered the team together and told them that we were going to remake the game just two days before we announced it to all of you on December 2nd.
I still remember it now, but at the time, we were in a studio like this one, and Souken (current director of game music) was in the background checking my mic levels. I clearly remember him standing there give me a guts pose (one fist in the air, think rocky) but at the time I had the same kind of worries as the players; how is this really going to turn out?... Isn't this going to be impossible.... pauses
But one by one I got support from all of you. It was said in the questions earlier, but normally an mmo takes 4-5 years to create and carefully plan. Earlier, Wada said his role is a tank. I had the same idea of being a tank when making this game. Up until now I have gone through each facet of the game (implies that he also bore all of the responsibility).
But I am not saying that it is just me who made FFXIV ARR. This was all due to the players around the world, the core staff here, and the hundreds of staff not here today. I came here today planning on not crying, but today we have final taken the first step with ffxiv arr. And it is only the first step. Honestly I don't think we have any time to rest. We are working on patches and expansions.
More than anything I want to thank the players, especially those who started from the original ffxiv, and those that have joined out community. Thank you all for all of your support so far. I only hope that we have released a game that will not bring shame to square enix. from here on out there is no finishing an mmorpg. FFXIV:ARR is not a game that we made alone, but a game that we made along with all of you. From here on out we home to keep creating this game from here on out, from this place with you for 5-10 years.
I again want to say thank you for all you have done so far and we hope for your support in the future. bows

It's all in how you present it, and often you come off as arrogant and stubborn.

I could list many complaints or suggestions or changes I would like, but presenting them in a manner that 1) suggests that your opinion isn't the absolute final word on the matter (which allows for discussion instead of arguments and flaming), and 2) is grounded in reality (instead of exaggerations), will get you far, not only in a forum but everyday interactions with people. I'm not presuming to know you or anything, but this is why many assume you are just trolling, as your posts share these qualities with trolls, though I don't agree with any of the pitchforking for your banishment that's been going on lately.

I have absolutely no idea what that man was saying when he broke down but I cried with him.

Maybe it is the alcohol, but there is something so humbling about seeing a grown man with the passion that this guy obviously has. There is also something so fantastic about seeing someone achieve something remarkable, whether its running the 100m in a personal best or world record time, or seeing a doctor save someones life, or just seeing someone deliver a video game that they have poured their heart, soul and life into for the last few years. The realisation of ones dreams should not be knocked and Yoshi-P has no apologies to make for being human.

(before the criticism arrives, I am not equating the importance of a video game with the importance of the role of a doctor in savings someones life, I am merely pointing out that commitment to our chosen pursuit and then success in that pursuit is a fantastic thing).
