I played on 1.0. Played quite a lot for two months and loved my character. I also had the special edition so i had the onion hat and all.
Sadly i lost my security token, i do not remember my emergency password to remove it and for the life of me i can't find square enix phone number to call them to help me out so i may just go and buy me a new copy anyway.
Are there any advantages to being a 1.0 player? besides keeping all those items and maybe the gil i had?

Depends on how far you got. If you only played for two months most likely not other then a free game. I forgot my password too and was able to get it reset.

Well besides the cool name i had, i got my gladiator to lvl 25 and made good gil crafting.. Not sure if it's good anymore.
Getting to 25 takes no time at all. Your gil was reduced by one 0 so it may not be a lot now. I think you can make the same name as long as it's on a different server.

If you played in the beginning of the game, the gil you made was cut to 1/10th of what it was. So the gil probably isn't the biggest factor. But since you bought the CE 1.0 the biggest benefit is probably getting the Coeurl mount, Helm, Behemoth minion and barding. If that doesn't matter much to you starting over isn't a big deal.

I always forget...Is it Legacy members who get the lower $9.99/month fee, or all 1.0 players? I always thought it was just the Legacy people, but I could be wrong.

Do all characters you create get these items or is that only for my transfered 1.0 character? Other than the little bit of gil and a few levels, I don't see any reason not to start my character over again.
All your characters get the special items, even newly created ones.
Everyone is forgetting the nifty Legacy back tattoos on all 1.0 characters. :P Got two of them, myself. One on Hyperion and one on Balmung (sp?)

Actually a Minion (Baby Behemoth, though he's more like a baby pig). Companion for now is only Grand Company Chocobo that fight along your side.
You also get 3 pieces of Behemoth Barding for your Grand Company Chocobo. You can mix match it with 3 other sets of Barding from GC as you like.
You get to keep Onion Helm (20% Durability loss reduction), now unobtainable. Super duper rare itamz.
The new CE is Light Helmet which give 20% EXP for level 1-10.
Also, Coeurl Mount.
