Gil ALMOST Pointless?Follow

#1 Aug 27 2013 at 3:44 PM Rating: Decent
Sooo...most games you go out and buy stuff like weapons or gear with your in game money...

In FFXIV:ARR I only spend my gil on teleports. I havent bought any armor yet as I have several sets from various quests offering similar items.

I have yet to even try the market board. Been playing since beta >early access> launch. anyone else have this experience?

You're only level 20 and looks like you have not started a craft yet. Give it time my friend

Not in the slightest, I use gil for a lot of stuff. Crafting, teleports, buying stuff off the market board, ferries, I can't get enough gil to keep up!

I would agree early on. The only thing I've bought is some gear for alternate classes, but that doesn't cost that much. Highest class is 19 tho. I imagine that will start to change as I get higher.

Just wait for housing to get going. Crafting is expensive. Melding materia and repairs start getting more expensive as you level. Trust me when I say the best gear in the game will have materia melded to it.

I've only tried the first "high level" dungeon that is not story related (Wanderer Palace) and I can assure you that it is indeed a DPS race. So you need to try forbidden meld on accessories at the very least even if you are fully decked in Darklight/Relic.

The Dungeon drop Accessories are pretty weak in comparison to Forbidden Melded Accessories though, unlike other gears.

I saw a housing video on YouTube a few days, and they were speculating houses would cost in the hundreds of thousands.
I don't know enough about the rest of endgame to speculate any further, but there were always items in FFxi that people would pay millions for.

End game could be quite demanding, I was the only one in the Wander Palace run that was not in full Darklight nor have Relic (I do however have very high Crit Rate and Determination build - 467 Crit Rate and 275 Determination without Sanction/Food). We barely made it, granted it was first run for 3 out of 4 of us, but it's pretty much a DPS race at mini boss and Tonberry King. There's really no other way other than dish out as many large number as possible before the King and dozens of other Tonberry kill you (because you do NOT want to kill the other Tonberry add too much, you should know what a Tonberry ability is ;) ). So I expect a lot of Melding (I already broke 30 Materia yesterday to get Double Meld on all my Accessories).

Funny how a low level talks about gil. he not even level 30.

Crafting, housing, repairs, Did I mention nine different crafts Oh and if you play more then one job, you have to eventually caft or buy gear for those other jobs as quest and free armor are no more.

I'm on a legacy server. I'm sitting on 4.2 mil gil and I feel poor. Maybe it's just me being a cheap skate, but I cringe every time I have to spend 300 gil on teleporting. I was hoping they would give more gil for doing levequests, but Unfortunately, the only ones I've seen only give around 200 gil each. There's so many things that require gil, you can spend it all if you aren't paying attention. I suggest getting a gathering job and start selling that stuff on the wards or keep it for your own craft, b/c you'll be needing as much gil as possible when you look to getting the best gear at lvl 50. Think the best crafted piece of gear with as many materia attached as possible. I'm already looking at 50k prices for gear just for basic lvl 50 botany gear. This is for only 1 piece. There are still 4 other body parts not including my accessories. Ugh... I need more gilz.

OP,

On my legacy Free company we have around 15 million gil in the FC safe gathered from players to purchase our FC house when it is available. I contributed 1m gil myself.

We are still concerned that it is not going to be enough for the biggest of houses. Yoshi-P has gone on record and said that only the most committed players will have the best FC houses. If you have nothing else to save for (and believe me when you are higher level you will wish you had more cash), help your FC save for an awesome house.

By the way, other than housing, you are going to need a lot of money for materia at endgame. You are going to need a lot of money for multi-melded gear (or you are going to have to level every craft.

Just because up to level 30 is easy and you dont need good gear, dont assume you can continue forever with that approach.

This right here is why I'm jumping ship the moment transfers are possible. The legacy servers are going to have the most messed up economies and I didn't play 1.0 long enough to store up millions of gil. I knew I'd be screwed if I kept my old progress but I put a lot of effort in armorer and just didn't want to lose it.

Completely disagree with this view of legacy servers. Price is dictated by supply and demand so on legacy servers with substantial supply and limited demand low level gear items will be massively cheaper than on newer servers. I have already observed this. I have an "all 50's" character on Masamune and a new character on Ultros. Prices on ultros for level 20-30 gear is about 5 times higher than on Masamune. There are so few crafters high enough to make the gear so those that are there are profit gauging.

It is likely prices later (at endgame) for very high level items might be higher on legacy because there is sufficient cash to support the prices but until that point, it is far cheaper to live on a legacy server than a new one.

Added to which crafters on legacy servers (like me) have been kitting out new players with masses of free +1 gear. I reckon I have crafted and given away at least 50 items since start of beta 4. I don't need their money - I have plenty already and I am by no stretch of the imagination as rich as many on my server.

Might be pointless.

He's just some guy who made an account to post this real quick. If the need arises, he'll probably just make another. It's like trying to stop gilsellers in-game xD

Hey same server! You do make a valid point here, maybe I should think about it a while longer.

Travel is a huge Gil sink.
So is purchasing Materia at end game. Materia melding is also expensive, and can fail - so you spend lots on that.
The market board will kindly take you gil if you like.

Hey Dante,

I spend most of the time on my new character on Ultros but if you see me in game on Masamune (name is Crafty Hallie), let me know. I might be able to help you out with some bits and pieces (though if you are already high level crafter I may add no value).

As it stands I'm not a high level armorer (22) but I'm leveling it in tandem with my Gld and I can still make gear higher than I need, but I do thank you for your offer. Changed my characters name to Joseph Duskheart (couldn't think of anything so I let my nephew name him lol) because everyone would complain that Dante Alighieri was a pain to spell.
