Took mining to 11 today and love the way the gathering mechanics work. I hope crafting is just as fun and rewarding
Different mechanics, but (to my taste) very enjoyable.
You actually control what happens when crafting (not "click the craft button, wait 3 sec, done). You juggle progress (completion), quality (boosts HQ chance AND exp from the synth), a limited CP supply (fires abilities, like GP for gathering), and ever-decreasing durability (limiting the number of actions you can take). Depending on cross-classing you have available, you can supercharge progress, ramp up quality with each successive success, restore CP & durability - there are many choices.
As a mark of how involved it is, you will probably have multiple
crafting gear sets for 50! (Yes, that's right!) A high-CP & control (determines quality/HQ progress, like perception for gathering) set for generating HQ components, a balanced set for farming out spiritbonding gear/current level stuff, and a higher-craftsmanship (progress based - like gathering stat) set for uber-difficult stuff.
eorzeareborn.com has some good guides for starting, and their crafting guide is no exception. It gives you an overview of the process, with some nice screenies.
