First off. Concerning World Transfer why does everyone think it will help people get into the servers they want? I mean lets say you want to get on Ultros which is full and server transfer comes out, a lotta people are gonna transfer from Ultros to make room for you? I dont see that happening if anything all that will help is that all of us who CANT get i will have brand new servers for us to play on (and thus get in) it wont largely affect the already crowded servers.

server time. What it for/do? I mean we dont have NMs so I can see it having to do with specific monster spawn times soo what does server time do (if anything) gameplaywise?

and about endgame FCs one thing that is fun about most MMOs is rival endgame LSes competing against the other, aside from PVP how would two FCs compete? I mean theres no NMs or claim system so theres no competition in the grabbing that rare NM first, also theres no "being the first LS to beat super powerful roaming monster" (like Vrtra, or Jorgumand for example in FFXI) again due to no claiming system since if said FC did try to tacke on such a powerful enemy, a bunch of other could show up and help them out. So aside from PVP how does two FCs compete?

Speaking of PVP i hope its expanded greatly as time presses on like one one one duels either in the open world or in the coliseum), FC vs FC fights etc etc.

MMO PvP has the double edged sword of being very cheap to develop/maintain and attracting a playerbase that is very transient, high maintenance and fickle.

Hopefully game developers have learned from the string of PvP centric MMO flops that having PvP as a "side dish" with a focus on PvE is the way to go.

I was thinking about this as well. I started with the thought that full servers wouldn't necessarily empty out. Then I had the same thought as your second point and I saw the contradiction. The new severs will fill up with people Who want to get off busy servers. Which frees up space on the busy servers for transfers.

So yes, server transfers will help people get onto the servers they want.

Transfers- Some people don't want to be on servers that have high queues, some don't care.

Server time - it's a universal time for everyone on your server.

FCs - There are world firsts in other games, why wouldn't they be in FFXIV?

Do you actually think about these questions for any amount of time before asking them?

Are there competition between FC? I think that would add more of an element to the game. I would be rep. Kraken Club all day err day.

First off, just because there are no NMs now, what makes you think there won't be? I'd be shocked if they were not introduced.

As far as a claiming system, there most certainly is one. There's a very big difference between a red mob and a purple mob. If you/your pt doesn't have claim to a mob (red), you won't get loot from it - those who do, will. You can still hit it, and you can still get some exp, but you won't get loot, the folk(s) with claim on it will.

Server time - to get on populated hours mean you get more people to party with. A lot of contents are forced party.

End game - there is PvP between FC of different Grand Company affiliations. Just not at launch yet. It's not open world, it's more like battleground with objectives. There will never be open world PvP.

There are NMs in the form of FATE. Behemoth and Odin.
AFAIK, only people who claimed Behemoth get its loot. Other people join in MAY be entitled for tokens. Lots of tokens required to exchange for loot.

Server is the actual time at the server location. Doesn't have anything to do with the time your server is most populated. Smiley: glare

Meant in-game time? Or data centre time? Data centre time do affect when the server get more populated. In-game time DO affect certain things like Unspoiled Gathering location...

I'm betting initial server transfer starts next week, and characters can be moved off existing worlds onto new worlds for free and immediately.

Then, 3-6 months down the road, they implement unrestricted transfers at $25 an account.

You're missing the point. Server time is used as a universal time. If your friends all live in different time zones, you use server time to specify when you're going to gather for an event. You don't have to say "Tom be there at 7, **** be there at 6, Harry be there at 5 and I'll be there at 4". Instead, it's easier to just say "Be there at 7 server".

Yes, it is used for other things like you said, but it doesn't have any affect on when your peak times are. If they moved all the servers to Japan, people are still going to show up in the evening during their own local time because that is when they're not at work.

I have 2 questions while you guys are at least somewhere in the ballpark. I have no idea what NM mean, I assume it's an extra strong, rare monster, but I don't know as I played XI very little.

Also, on the topic of server time, does anyone know where I can find an in-game date? Does it just coincide with the real world date? So would today be like the 28th day of the 4th moon? I haven't seen any in-game calendars, but I did put in my birthdate in the character creation screen, so I assume it has some amount of relevance.

Sorry if this is derailing you post. Smiley: tongue

NM = Notorious Monster, like world boss. They are not in instance (wouldn't be NM if it's in instance). There are equivalent of NM in ARR in certain FATE, Behemoth and Odin are two most obvious.

In-game calendar should concise with rl calendar, but in-game time advances rapidly compare to rl time.

Im referring to open world boss type fights for example lets say your FC was teh first to attack Odin... then in the midst of battle other ppl not affiliated to your FC joined the fight and helped out... can you really say your FC was the first to beat it when ppl outside of your FC were involved too?

I don't think the accessibility would really have anything to do with it . Can you really say you were the world's first [insert job here] when a large portion of players still can't actually log into the game? The first is the first, I guess.
