I won't be playing for some time. I spent 1400$ on a gaming desktop several months ago. And it just blew up on me. Went snap crackle pop with sparkies and then dead. My guess is it was just the power supply as more and more often the game was randomly shutting down my computer. Then tried to log in 2 times and instant shut down upon game load. 2nd time sparks flew. Don't have the monies to fix it right now so CRAP!

It was nice playing with ya'll I had some fun! :-)

I'm sorry for your loss. PS3 is only $200... Sounds like whoever built your PC for you didn't know what they were doing. I've heard of old school computers being able to run the game on low setting.

Should definitely check out the PSU first. A bad PSU can kill other components with it so I hope you still have your warranty.

Power supplies aren't that expensive, you can easily get one for $100 or less, depending on your power needs. They do fail. I had one send out this puff of smoke with a strong electrical smell, then when I took it out it was all melted inside (it looked cool!).

Yeah if you haven't already I would consider a PS3, at least until you can replace the PC... you can at least enjoy the game in the meantime and progress your character. If you like it, you may even just want to stick it out and go with a PS4 when it launches.. it should have similar specs to that of a high-end PC anyways when it comes out.

If it was from a comp builder like iBuyPower the warranty may only be 90 days for the whole system. However, if he built it himself or even if he had someone else build it, the individual components will all have warranties of at least a year.

Big brand name PCs (Dell, HP, Lenovo) will almost always have at least a full year warranty.

The PS3 Is an option, I already have a PS3 Controller. But I did just spend 59$ on CE ><, Getting paid in the next few days. I may try PS3.

Just out of curiosity how are the PS3 Graphics. And does it take a Generic USB Keyboard?

I don't have a high-end PC, so I have no way to compare... but I like the graphics.

Yes you can use a USB keyboard.

Oh, wow! That really sucks! A few days after Guild Wars 2 came out, my desktop blew on me, though it was a store-bought HP PC that was 3 years old. Since then, I've been stuck using my work laptop for Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy XIV: ARR. Sadly, this laptop runs those games far better than the desktop ever did. I'm slowly saving up to eventually buy my own components and build my own computer. I won't buy anything, though, until I've saved up all the money and am ready to do it so I can make sure I have the newest stuff I can afford. So, I sympathize with you! I sincerely wish you good luck!

While it is obvious that PS3 graphics aren't going to be PC level, they are still really, really good for PS3. I've had no complaints about the graphics or the sound. Also obviously, the PS3 won't be able to display as many assets on screen at once (FATEs for example) as a PC, but this has been no problem for me. I honestly think you'll have a fine time on it. :) I play both the PC and the PS3 versions.

Yes, you need to buy the PS3 version, but you can connect your PSN account to your existing SE service account.

CyberPower offers warranties, so I hope you got it with your PC. The PC I play FFXIV on I got from them years ago and it's still running great, though I had to remove some memory recently after a move and some issues.

I purchased a comp from CyberPower about 1.5 years ago. Directly out of the box the thing blows up. Have never smelt anything like that before in my life. Company reimbursed the cost of the PC but I still had to pay shipping and the cost to ship it back to them. In the end I was out $200 for a computer that never worked.

The PS3 graphics arent too bad. I play on a 3 year old PC, but I ordered a PS3 copy so that I could have that as a backup should something happen to the computer. It also served a dual purpose. Since I can play the PC version for free due to already buying the CE for 1.0, I got the PS3 version as a preorder for the in-game goodies and the 10.00 off Amazon coupon.

I hook up a PS3 at 720p with an HDMI cable and it looks pretty nice.

You can probably find a used/refurbished PS3 for a decent price at a resale shop, like gamestop or something similar. It will usually come with a warranty as well.

Still, we all feel your pain. Hope it all works out.

Yes, you need to buy a physical PS3 copy. But it is only 37 dollars (plus tax) and gamestop has some coupon right now going until September 15th that gives you and extra 50% on trade-ins so you could do like me and trade in 3 games and get it for free. Inside the game comes the 12 digit PSN code (on the back of the booklet) and the 20 digit registration code (on an attached leaflet) for the SE site. Follow the instructions in the packet inside the game disc and you should be able to link the PS3 version separately to your SE account. From memory, I think it wants you to go first to account management / Redeem Codes / then enter the 12 digit code. All good. Then it gives you access to download the game client. Takes a few hours. Then enter the game disc and open it up. You will be at the main login screen. Enter your SE password and user name and you should have to accept a contract agreement. It then brings you to a screen to choose what account. Do not choose a new account, go with the default exisiting account that should show up. From this point, the PS3 automatically links the PS3 version to your SE account. I did not have to enter my 20 digit code (but I had beta and early access clients already) so be prepared to enter that code if it asks.

As for the Mog Station... If you have already set up to prepay for PC service, you may want to change that.

I really hope that I don't lead you wrong, but that is the best I have at the moment. Other than that, there was a good post by ShadowEdgeFFXI about a week ago with details on the PS3 process.

Dude are you like 5 minutes from a gamestop? Anyway, I bought a refurbished slim and it has plenty of memory right out of the box. Plus that built in wireless access is NICE. Just make sure to run it on 720p with HDMI. 480p will give you a quarter of the screen. It is no good. Good luck and see you in game!

Normally any USB keyboard and mouse will work instantly, out of game too. I highly recommend using a mouse for FFXIV on PS3. You can do everything with the controller, but some things are just faster, like reorganizing the crossbar.

Thanks. I guess DeathStalker Razor keyboards don't work with PS3. Fished an old keyboard out of the closet. Works like a charm. Unfortunately I don't have the cash to get a PS3 wireless controller too. So I'm stuck with only 2 USB ports 1 for controller, and 1 for keyboard.

Theres a logitech one for $26 I found at walmart that is small, wireless, and has a built in laptop mouse. Works like a breeze.

For a reasonably-priced gaming system that will run FFXIV on reasonable (though not *impressive*) settings, the following build will work well:

Intel i3-3220 CPU ($99 at Microcenter if you live near one)
Any $50 - $100 motherboard (I like Gigabyte on the low end, their stuff is generally solid and inexpensive)
8GB of Kingston HyperX DDR3 RAM
WD Blue 500GB or 1TB drive
nVidia GeForce 610 card with at least 1GB of GDDR

If you want to drop about two hundred bucks more and get really nice performance and run much higher settings, grab a GeForce 560ti card and an Intel i5-3570K CPU. The 560ti is about $100 more than the 610, and the i5 will run you less than $100 more than the i3 will.

You can also pick up a cheap 64GB SSD just to stick the game and game data on, too. Microcenter had 64GB Sandisk SSDs for $58 last time I was there.

Already bought my PS3, Wait on 2 gigs of Updates to install. Gosh I'm screwed if they come out with lots of expansion I only have 12 gigs of ram, Already eaten up 9 with this game.

Anyways thanks for the post. If I did buy that system, I would sadly sadly miss my i7-3770k, 16gb of ram and gtx 660ti heh. I have a feeling I'm going to miss it once I start playing on this PS3. My TV's HD isnt so good. Not very Crisp. Either way I am installing the patch as we speak on my PS3.

This is the road I shall be taking! Even though I will miss my computer. I Don't think I'll be sinking 1400 into a computer again anytime soon. Stick with the tried and tested ps3 until the ps4 becomes tried and tested then I'll switch over. But probably wont be jumping in on the first wave of ps4 unless they're is rave reviews without tons of hiccups.

How are you so calm about it? What a champ.

I'd be breaking things, then I'd have a panic attack, then I'd cry myself to sleep.

...I need a life.

What can I do? Nothing. I think I'm in a bit of shock and awe with it though. Like "Holey **** my computer broke..............".

But either way, I got a console so I'm going to play on that. Just means I won't be playing any graphically intensive games anytime soon. heh.

Well at least you'll still be able to play. That should bring you some relief. Man, my heart goes out to you. I also own a gaming PC worth around the same, and if it were to die, I'd flip.

Whatever it is, it's probably one part that went out. Companies like that cheap out heavily on power supplies. If you have a techie friend, have them look at it. You can probably fix whatever it is for less than you spent on that PS3.

this is why you always build your computer, cheaper, and 3-5 year warranties on each part

Did you build this yourself? I must know more lol

Edit: Never mind, I read the thread. There's no warranty or anything? That's really ******, and for a $1400 desktop...

If you happen to see this, what video card did it have and how many watts was your power supply made to produce?

Sounds to me like you may just have to replace your power supply, unless by sparks you mean it literally burned your components.

It randomly shutting your screen down means it didn't have enough juice to power your build. Your motherboard has priority and screen is basically last on that list.

I would try getting a power supply at least 600 watts and see if that helps you turn your computer on. If it doesn't then your components are all fried.

Some years back I had a power supply blow up while the computer was off! If I hadn't been home when it went off my place might have burned down. There's definitely a lot of dangerously defective power supply units on the market these days.

Based on what you described it sounds like your video card was the culprit.

If your system has a more recent CPU you should have an integrated GPU.

Remove the discrete video card, connect your monitor to the integrated output and see what happens.

You said 7 months? That outfit doesn't include at least a 1 year warranty?

Phasmoto that sucks for sure! Have you contacted the company to ask for resolution? If it is only 7 months old surely they will either repair, replace or refund? You need to be assertive with them if they try to give you the run around. If that isnt in your nature have someone good at being assertive and negotiating call them on your behalf. You should not be taking a $1400 loss due to faulty components or incompetence.

If you need a hand talking to them PM me if you don't have anyone to push them. I am a professional when it comes to being a customer since mine have trained me.

What sort of consumer protection laws do you have over there?

Here in the UK if something like that happened after just several months we'd be entitled to replacement or repair. It generally varies on the type of product but, safe to say, one would generally expect a PC to last much longer than yours has and, therefore, regardless of what guarantee or warranty was provided, could potentially still be covered under our Sale of Goods Act.

Wow thanks for all the replies!

Yea, I ended up getting a PS3, just to be super disapointed with how much of a downgrade it was.

My System was on when it happened. I heard SNAP CRACKLE POP. Then smoke and smell. Shut down the powerstrip. Then unplugged the unit.

Ok checked out the warranty on newegg.com It is a 1 year warranty parts + labor.
I checked my account and it was purchased this year, which means I'm still within the timeframe.

My only problem I see is. I installed an extra 8 gigs of ram when I got it.... Would that void a warrenty do you think? And if it doesnt. Should I remove the 8gigs before I send the product to the company?
