How To Handle Insane "Maintenance Account" IssuesFollow

If you're like me and had your valid registration code applied to a previously unknown "maintenance account" while your real account with your characters is now locked, here's a way to get around it without waiting for SE.

1. Contact credit card company original purchase was made and dispute the charge as fraudulent. At no point in the transaction did SE state you would be buying a product through Digital River. Vast majority of people, if that was known, would have hit CANCEL and sought out a reputable merchant. Since SE arbitrarily assigned your code to an unused account, you have not received any good/services. It's a valid dispute.

2. Calla round and find a physical copy of the game. Found one near me at 3rd place I called.

3. Buy physical copy and enter registration code at that funky MOG site, not through regular registration process.

4. Login and play game.

You fix your problem and get the satisfaction of sticking DRI and SE with handling a dispute.

I bought a digital copy and a physical copy. I had absolutely no issues with the digital registration code. Even put up the steps to get your codes registered in a thread.

Now since when does Digital River come in? They show up nowhere on my credit card statement at all. The only charges I have are from Square Enix Limited.

I followed the client base registration process and SE assigned my code to a blank "maintenance account" - it gave me no option or even mentioned "maintenance accounts" until after I had registered and tried to enter the game.

For whatever reason SE decided to put my code on "maintenance account 2" instead of 1, where my characters are.

I didn't even know what a "maintenance account" was until I tried to logon and I was made to select one from a menu. If you try to log into the "locked" one, it directs you to another SE site (something with "MOG" in it) - at that site you can see your "maintenance accounts" - nowhere else.

Digital River was used by SE for purchases made directly through SE. At no point during the checkout process was that mentioned; again, had it been I would have canceled instantly.

DRI is about as crappy a company, on par with collection agencies and payday loan dives.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.
