I have played MMO's for about 10 years and never played a tank class, now I am and for the limited time I have got to play I really like it. The only issue I am having is the targeting system for PS3, I have messed with the options and still cant seem to figure it out. While tanking, In a battle with a group of mobs I am tryin to switch targets and constantly selecting either a party members pet, or a random mob who is incredibley far away. It is frustrating and makes being effective very difficult.

If anyone has any advice I would be happy to hear it. The PS3 controller seems like it may work decent but if I cant figure this out I will have to switch to a keyboard.
Speaking of that, do you have to have a certain kind of keyboard for the ps3? I plugged in my logitech from my broken PC and it doesnt work on the PS, and when I went to buy a wireless it said it required windown 7.. im confused. Please help :)

As a tank, I use the gamepad on the PC, which is pretty much the same layout as the PS3.

While in a party, pressing up/down on the directional pad cycles through party members. Pressing left/right on the directional pad cycles through enemies. That as the default. It worked out pretty well for the most part.

The downside comes when trying to target players quickly when they aren't in your party.

Any keyboard should work, and that ultimately Is the solution to your problem. You can keybind 'attack nearest enemy'' 'attack targets target' etc. extremely useful for all group content. And yes it appears the targeting system does have some hiccups. I've customized all the filters and modes and I still have issues with carbuncle and nearby mobs. Using the alternate controls where you turn with the camera is helpful too.

I believe L1+O will make TAB Target focus on enemies, D-PAD left and right cycles through enemies, up and down PCs. Also F11 targets the closet mob to you, though it may not be the one you want to fight.

I honestly suck at Targeting as well but apparently the current tab system in FFXIV is being ridiculed by a lot of players for its lack of focus on current/closet mobs.

You can set up multiple filters for combat in those settings with the press of L1 and Square/Circle/Triangle/X.

I have one for "show everything".
On fates I swap to only Enemies to sweep unclaimed mobs and hit them with Aero.
One for all people and their pets, Yes. Sometimes I heal random battlechickens in FATEs.
The 4th is for my Party alone, because sometimes you just have to Triage in your own favor. ;)
