Yup we don't need anymore threads on this. It sums up to the ball being dropped with no AFK dump

If people weren't lining up to get on because of the AFK's then the login servers wouldn't be getting clogged and capacities would not be stuck at cap

Mind boggling how such a great game could be developed yet one missing bolt has brought it to it's knees

I don't have to read every post you've made to make a judgement about what you posted in this thread. If you didn't dislike my personal assessment of the likelihood that you will stop using flawed logic, I think it is unlikely that you would make it the first part of each response. That is a personal judgment, which is why I said "I think".

At no point did I state you said they did a good job. You said I can't blame faulty programming. My response is that the source of the error is irrelevant; the fact that there is the error is an understandable basis for the suspicion of incompetence or dishonesty.

As stated prior, I left for three hours to spending time with my family and returned to an immediate entry into the server I'm on with no queue whatsoever. That being said, it is not outside the realm of the queue system failing. It fails on the games you're referring to. During WoW's launch it failed miserably. To this day it still periodically fails based on load during expansion releases. This is first-hand knowledge, and you can refer to my signature in case you're inclined to claim I haven't played WoW. Systems fail. It happens. In this case it's happening in abundance. The initial days of FFXI experienced the same issues. SW:TOR experienced the same issues. While it's perfectly plausible to assume that a company can learn from these other mistakes, it's equally implausible because to date SE has launched on mainstream MMO, and that is FFXI. They did not launch WoW, STO, SW:TOR, RIFT, etc. This is the first launch for them with this codebase, and as stated, regardless of the reasons, their infrastructure is having a hard time keeping up. Will they learn from this? Yes. Will it help them in the future? Yes. It won't help the next poor sod coming along releasing their own, MMO, though, making it implausible to assume that because one product had launch issues, the next in succession from another author will not. The only way that would be plausible is if SE's programmers came from those other software companies. Also stating that SE had XI's experience to hinge on is also plausible, but fallible. A lot of the talent from 1.0 came from FFXI. My case should be clear in that respect.

EDIT: It's also implausible to surmise that all modern MMO's have resolved their load issues. If by load we're measuring capacity as well, which seems to be a favorite among our posters here, let me point your eyes towards this gem:

[img=242573]

Not even Blizzard, the MMO giant of this time, has worked out server capacity issues. To expect FFXIV:ARR to be 100% flawless with limitless load and capacity capabilities is flawed, to say the least.

Again, I never claimed any expectation of a flawless performance or a limitless load capacity. It would be helpful if you would argue the points I've actually made.

What your image clearly shows is a login queue. Even a lengthy login queue is a functional login queue. Thank you for clearly demonstrating that WoW has a functional queue, while FF14 doesn't, or at least hasn't over the last 7-10 days. When we hit prime time tonight, we will know what the truth is today.

Can you point to any time in the other games you've mentioned where the login queue was inoperable for a week at a time?

I do not know you, and I don't expect to have any significant tenure on this forum, so I can honestly say the thought of making an example of you to "stand on" during my time here never crossed my mind.

To be completely honest, you used a logical fallacy that I find irritating as a means to be rude to someone, twice in a single thread. That is why I am discussing this with you. The rest appears to be based on misunderstandings or miscommunications.

Catwho's Law: As the length of any forum post regarding Final Fantasy grows, the probability of the mention of "fanboy" or "white knight" approaches one.

Corollary: If the discussion is regarding errors received in the game, the probability is exactly equal to one.

You are absolutely right and I agree with you. As I stated, I take your feedback into consideration and will think about what you've said before using said argument again, as well as any other argument. I can say that in the past the content of my posts has been that of someone trying to be as realistic about a situation as possible. I do concede that in this case you are right and, like another poster before you and I had encountered, I will take that into consideration.

As I said, I agree that the rest of the content of our posts seems to be miscommunication and misunderstanding as to the points being made in the thread. I will concede that it is mostly on my part. I make no excuse to that. I can accept when I've made an error and am doing so here.

Finally, it is my hope that the issues we're encountering will continue to be resolved as time goes on. I at no point wished to state that I myself find this game flawless or the execution therein, but I do hope in all earnesty that the next several weeks will see leaps and bounds in the improvement of the login situation of this title. We all do, which is one of the reasons all of us here are as passionate about the game as we are, leading to the occasional lapse in logical posts.

I do want to put special emphasis that I hope you do stay in this community. I for one have had a good time debating with you and you clearly appear level headed. To coin a phrase, I dare say, "I like you", and hope to see more of you here.

I've been thrown out of the "queue" about three times already. Very frustrating, you would think that a queue would be a fundamental thing. Even better do what guild wars 2 did and make an overflow servers so people can actually play the game while they "wait".

Getting tossed from the queue was likely caused by their "severe login restrictions" that were implemented to avoid crashing the Duty Finder. So it wasn't that the queue failed so much as they purposely halted it from functioning as intended to avoid causing an essential feature to fail. They chose preserving gameplay over craming more people in and thus into a broken game.

I guess that doesn't make a lot of sense to me, making me wait in a queue until there is a spot seems a lot easier than having me spam 0 trying to find that needle in the haystack. I would happily wait in the queue of 7, 31, 23 that I have been removed from than sit there pushing the 0 num pad key wishin and hopin, and prayin and dreamin.

I have a feeling that after they do get the load balancing worked out, all of the "casual" gamers that Yoshi was courting will have given up and moved on to something else. In my opinion, casual gamers would probably not worry about taking the time to wait, as they are usually looking to play when they want to play, and not spend any time just trying to get the game started. I am betting they will just wander away to another game...

The problem doesn't lie entirely with AFK's. The problem is three fold, from what i gather.

1st off, yes capacity is becoming an issue. SE probably could by now, if not already at my typing this, increase the capacity their servers can hold, and maybe even add on a few more servers to boot for good measure. I say this because even if it isn't what will fix the problem, it can't hurt, can it?

2ndly, No Afk is not the main issue. It's a mix of the 1st problem, and the third that i am about to explain.

finally, it has mostly to due with how fast/many characters the server can log in at a time. Like it or not, logging in is a lot like waiting in line at a movie theater. they can only allow in so many people at a time. Not because they don't want to, (I hope this is the case) but because they just don't have the resources to comply with so many login/ticket requests, if you understand what i mean. This could be solved i bet, by increasing the CPU and Ram in the already running servers, along with altering a few lines of code, but i wouldn't know what code to write/change and my input about the cpu/ram is mostly computer knowledge based. I COULD BE COMPLETELY WRONG!

edit- i forgot to add in the beginning that booting afk people would also be completely unfair, no matter how you put it, because, aside from the people who are afk for more than an hour, any one for less time, could be doing something completely legit, and will be right back asap. for all you know, these people could be people who are just getting in from having to wait in a Que line, and having left the console/computer for a bit while waiting, haven't gotten back yet. this is yet another legit reason to be afk. sure would suck to get booted from the game just because of that, only to have to wait in line Again.

Needing a thread or not needing a thread complaining about the people complaining in other threads about the same complaint....see where I went with that. Yeah seemed pointless to me too...although I could care less about all the complaint threads. There actually is a legitimate reason to complain.

People cannot play a game that they paid for...never mind the subscription fee which hasn't gone into affect yet, but the base cost of the game itself.

MMO's have rocky launches, we all know this and we expect it. BUT at least we were able to play the game. All the bugs, the lag, the broken code, the crashes to desktop, etc I am sure would be welcome if people were actually able to play this game. Not being able to log in for days and days because SE doesn't have enough room on the worlds for all the people who BOUGHT their game is ridiculous...absolutely ridiculous. Give me lag and broken items all day for the win instead of not playing for the lose.

Sorry but this is the SECOND MMO launch for SE, 3rd if you count the failed 2010 launch of this game, and I expect them to be better than other companies at this. At the very least I expect them to not underestimate their own game. Fail SE...fail.

lol. your funny. especially your last two paragraphs. all of this over the past 1 and a half weeks roughly now, is why i usually wait up to a month before playing MMO's. It allows the Dev's to use all you people too impatient to wait, as a way to test for final errors that have slipped by the beta. even if that's not what they intended on, it is what usually ends up happening. so i wait. collect on the freebies they give away due to said errors, and play happier than the rest of you because i didn't have to wait due to some ********* but because i just know better than to jump on the bandwagon as soon as it's ready to go. This is the same with computer hardware and software of all sorts.
To be fair though. i have bought my copy already and am waiting now to pick it up from the mail tonight or tomorrow when it arrives. paid for it yesterday. should be ready to play friday night at the latest, unless SE uses the weekend to fix a few more things first.... then i might be a little annoyed. but not much, because i have plenty of other things to go do in that time instead.

In short. go do something else for now. the game will be here when you get back. And if you absolutely cannot wait for whatever reason other than immediate death due to undue circumstances, then too bad for you, go learn some patience and understanding while you wait.

and good riddance i say. casual gamers are basically only fit to play ******, low value, high priced games. and also to test out the bugs for new games while the dedicated players wait for them, trolling them on the sidelines, laughing as they deal with the bugs for us. Thank casual gamers, now go test another game for us. unwittingly of course, due to your impatience to wait for the game to be "Truly" finished. (hint) no game is truly finished until after the first wave of updates in the first month of release. some sooner. some later. but NEVER at release. Release finished, ended with the N64/PS1/Xbox era of games. xbox barely fits in that category, as it was able to update... i think...

If you want to inject some humor try telling a joke:

"I went to my doctor and asked for something for persistent wind. He gave me a kite. You see the trouble is he's very old fashioned. When he gives you an injection you have to bite on a bullet."

Funny because it's true. I love the game and will continue to play BUT I understand all the complaining because it is in one word complete BULLCRAP that there is not enough room on the worlds for all the people. At least other MMOs had queues (i.e. WOW). This is unacceptable.

Edit: But by all means continue to blindly defend SE and AFK each and every day because we all know that is what you are doing.

I don't understand the rage, it's an annoyance not being able to get in but do you know any other company that has been more communicative than SE over these issues.

Just think back two year to the Diablo 3 launch, I think I had the game six or seven days before I could actually play it, and more recently Sim City. There is a PR disaster of momentous proportions and you got the feeling the Maxis was basically censured by EA. I never returned D3 to Amazon but I did return Sim City as, at that time, I was genuinely an angry customer. SE have acknowledged the problem, listed a temporary solution, implemented a fix quickly and increased the free trial period across the board by way of an admission and apology.

Can you name another company that have been so transparent over a problem launch?

It allows the Dev's to use all you people too impatient to wait, as a way to test for final errors that have slipped by the beta. even if that's not what they intended on, it is what usually ends up happening. so i wait. collect on the freebies they give away due to said errors, and play happier than the rest of you because i didn't have to wait due to some bullsh*t, but because i just know better than to jump on the bandwagon as soon as it's ready to go.

Oh my God, really? People like you still run your mouths? It's over. The naysayers lost. You didn't buy a portion of the game and you have absolutely no God-given right to play. You bought a launcher. You agreed that you bought a launcher because if you created an account you had to agree to the Terms of Service, which clearly state such. They can shut the game down TOMORROW and you can't return the game, get a refund, or dispute it with your credit card company BECAUSE of those ToS. Read the first page of the thread. Everyone before you tried that argument and lost badly.

The days of needing to troll about login issues are over -- The problem is solved. Crawl back into your hole now or, better yet, play the @#%^ing game.
