Questions from a veteran noob Follow

#1 Sep 02 2013 at 10:54 PM Rating: Decent
I stopped playing around 2 years ago and I just downloaded the game yesterday.

1) Crafting mats

I have a lot of walnut branches and willows logs, things that used to be crafting mats.
So they're not crafting materials anymore? I can trash them?
So walnut trees only give walnut log and not branches anymore? or will there be future use for this?

2) Gil

Also I remember having around 30-50m gil when i left but i only have around 4m now.
Did they change the gil system?

3) Market Ward

How come I can't find the market ward? Is the market board the replacement?

That's all the questions I have so far. A lot seemed to have changed. Thanks in advanced for the help guys.

1) Crafting mats
Definitely keep them. They're used for various recipies. When you're poking around you'll notice we have the Crafting Log which is more or less an index of all the craftable things and what gets used to craft those things. I'm not sure if you have to unlock that particular Hand job (???) or not to view it, but it's all in there. So definitely keep them.

2) Gil
I think they did do an economy reset which would have reset your gil as well. I can't find a reference to link stating whether they did or not, though. Hopefully someone else can link to it.

3) Market Ward
Essentially yes.

That's all the questions I have so far. A lot seemed to have changed. Thanks in advanced for the help guys.

they reset everyone's gil to 10% of what they had. So you had 40 million gil when you left.

There is also a guy who has more of your stuff. Once you open up the retainer, you should find the npc with all of your gear.

I unfortunately don't know if they ever posted a means to download the PS3 client without a code from purchasing the game, EA, or beta. Does anyone have any additional info on this?

thanks for the replies.

evil - you can download from the welcome back page via the lodestone

darexius - some of my mats have the "Crafting Material" in the description but some don't have that and when i search the zam database, there are no longer any recipes for it. are those trash? or are there some hidden recipes? or have they not added all the recipes?

4) Gear + Weapons
my crafting gear and gathering gear and some of my battle gear became dated xxxx gear and the stats on it are gone. so dated gear is essentially useless right? i should just recraft them?

I can't log into the game atm as the JP servers are down, otherwise I'd look at my crafting log and tell you what mats those are used in. Hopefully someone on an NA server can tell you.

As far as gear, don't get rid of that stuff. I can't find the link (go figure) but you can trade your old gear for either Materia or comparable new gear or something. I'll edit this if I find it before it's posted.

EDIT:
Quote:
Items held during the final save of Version 1.0 back in November 1st, 2012, have also been transferred over to A Realm Reborn. As previously stated, some items were made obsolete and will not be in your inventory upon logging in. Some of these obsolete items, such as arrows, throwing weapons, and some crafting items) will be turned into gil. Other items will not be immediately available in players’ inventory, but can be retrieved by a Calamity Salvager NPC at the following locations:

Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks, (X:11,Y:14)
Old Gridania, (X:10,Y:8)
Ul’dah: Merchant’s Strip – Steps of Thal, (X:12,Y:13)

Likewise, retainers are ported in a similar vein and can be rehired by speaking with one of the following NPCs:

Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks, (X:8,Y:11)
Old Gridania, (X:14,Y:9)
Ul’dah: Merchant’s Strip, (X:13,Y:9)
