We would like to thank all our customers for their continued support of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Since the beginning of official service on August 27, 2013, the number of users attempting to access the game has significantly exceeded our initial estimates. While we are pleased to see support for the game reach far beyond our expectations, the servers were not prepared to handle this influx of players. As a result, our servers have been pushed beyond maximum capacity. In order to allow access to as many users as possible, we have implemented login and character creation restrictions. We understand, however, that these restrictions have greatly inconvenienced our players.

To resolve this issue, we will be performing maintenance from September 3, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. to September 4, 2013, at 3:00 a.m (PDT), for the purpose of increasing the number of available Worlds, reducing stress on the Duty Finder servers, and increasing the number of concurrent logins allowed for each server.

Because login and character creation restrictions have hindered our ability to provide quality service, all FINAL FANTASY XIV service accounts will receive an additional seven days of free play time. Furthermore, users who have yet to enter their registration codes will receive an additional seven-day trial should they register before 11:59 p.m. (PDT) on September 9, 2013. Moving forward, we will continue monitoring the servers to ensure that quality service and support are provided in a timely manner.

The additional seven days will be reflected on service accounts after maintenance has concluded on September 4, 2013, which can be confirmed by accessing the Final Fantasy XIV: Mog Station.

We thank you again for your patience and understanding as we continue to address these issues, and look forward to your continued support of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

I'm sleepy, I'm going to bed after a good 6 hours of play...... I just LOGGED OFF of Midgarsormr. HURRY get your spot!

Made a shout before I logged too, got applause and /kneeling from those who were not afk.....got the attention I wanted.....but I still want a damn medal.

****..... I might even turn my computer off, save the environment while I'm at it. I'll fall asleep with a clean conscience dreaming of winning the nobel peace prize for logging off.

Only thing left is to implement an system to boot afk players after about 1-2 hours.

Looks like it's an FFXI night for me tonight.

Hopefully tomorrow we can log in and all will be beautiful!

This I can get behind. I take breaks that are often 30-45 minutes for things like getting the kids in bed and I would prefer to be able to stay logged in for that.

I hope the time period is at least one hour before being auto-logged out.

Why are you still playing that inferior game?! Nah, just kidding. Personally, however, I've given up on FFXI and FFXIV has become my new crack. All I really need to do is log on there one last time and give Arcari of Bismarck one final hail and farewell.

On-topic: Excellent that they confirmed free trial extension. Here's hoping the maint tomorrow resolves most (not all, because that's impossible) of the issues.

My primary core group of friends is not switching to XIV. So, I stay. I still have some things I want to do. I will get Daurdabla 90. I will, dammit.

.... if you have an Apademak pop KI, can I bum that off you before you log off? Smiley: lol Torn Khimaira Wing. I'm brewing them one at a time.

Balancing 2 MMOs... I couldn't do it lol
#12 Sep 03 2013 at 10:46 AM Rating: Good
I couldn't either if I had kids. Smiley: laugh In the case of XI, I'm done with 95% of the content and mostly just log in to hang out.

I like the fact that there is no auto boot after a period of time. As in XI. Alot of people stayed logged in. Not only just to bazaar their items. But just to sit in a spot with other LS mates. I think its sorta neat to see. And doing that now in this game will just be a nice feature, atleast to me. Will bring back old XI memories. So i hope that they don't add auto boot to the game. And im sure that they wont as the server issues will be fixed sooner then later.

Auto-kick is a reflex response to a temporary problem, and a short sighted one at that. I, too, hope they don't do it.

Curious, what purpose does it serve in game to stay logged in? (given that there are a finite number of connections to the server)

I already mentioned my reasons why. Other people may have thier own.

Nor I. My GF does it with FFXIV and PSO.

Hopefully after the maintenance, me and the better-half will finally be able to log in at the same time and play together. I just finished Hakke Mansion and she is still working towards Toto-rak. Would be nice if we could actually do our first runs with each other. We shall wait and see.

There's a couple reasons I do it. From time to time I'll go make a sammich or something and get sidebarred by folks, which will take me away for a few moments unintentionally. For example, I had to run to the store the other day and normally that's a 5 minute trip there and back. Ended up talking to a stranded family and ended up fixing their SUV for them, pumped them some gas, and they were on their way. Overall about 2 hours AFK, but it was worth it and it was the right thing to do (sorry if I inconvenienced anyone. Helping a family in need > FFXIV time).

Another reason is because I'm waiting on someone in-game and I fire up Netflix. Or I'm eating for a sec and I fire up Netflix. Not worth it to be afk for 5 minutes instead of fighting forever to get back in because I decided to eat.

It is safe to assume the current login issues will be fixed. So, we should discuss the merits of an auto afk kicker in the context of everyone being able to log in and play when they want.

Under those terms, I don't see any purpose for an afk kicker.

I am reserving judgement until it happens. I am hopeful, but I been down the miracle patch yellow brick road before... If it works, great. No reason to AFK and no reason to dislike those that do AFK. TBD though.

And if you wander off and get sidetracked with real life, that is not the issue. What is the problem with coming back and having to log back into a game that has booted you for being AFK, given that the game allows you to log back in unencumbered? To suggest you should be able to afk for hours at a time because RL pulled you away is one thing, but to use that as an example of why we shouldn't have an afk boot system in place is a little thin on the argument since you can simply log back in when you get back from whatever you are doing. Remaining in game is a moot point and your character serves no purpose being idle on the server.

Of course right now, when slots are at a premium... yeah I can see it, but I question why they didn't plop this into the game at the start.

For me personally if the maintenance fixes the issue I'll be logging off more (1200w power supplies eat up 'lectricity at a ferocious rate). If it doesn't and they implement it, a rubber band on the movement joystick in an Inn solves that problem. I don't think an AFK kicker is the way to go, it's easy to beat, and doesn't solve the bigger issue. It's a stopgap measure.

Actually, and nobody seems to remember this so I'm not pointing fingers at you in particular, but FFXI did have an auto-kick for AFK'ers.

You could Manually change it to log you out "Never" from the menu... but it was set to kick you at 15 minutes (I believe)...

They could have done this in XIV and it would have solved this whole problem.

By the time half the players realized they could switch it to never log them out, we would have had plenty of servers up and running and nobody would have had 1017 errors.

I think some posters are stating that the maintenance will fix all the login issues, when in reality SE is promising to improve them, not fix them completely.

I think it is safe to assume there will still be more players wanting to play on each server than will fit at one time.

Things not mentioned:
- Implementing an unlimited capacity login queue
- World Transfers

I think it's unrealistic to think that everything will be perfect by Wednesday. This is the first round of possible fixes with more to come after the results of this effort are clear.
