Is there any way to remove the chat bar on ps3? I don't talk to people much and it's starting to burn an image into my tv. Plus, if I can turn it off, how would I turn it bak on.

L1 + select just takes everything hud related off the screen, if you want to refresh your pixels every now and then to avoid screen burn. You can then push L1+select to put it back on.

I know about that but I'm unable to talk to any npc's that way too. Only thing I can do is grind.

You can move it too, to avoid that.

Pretty sure you can go into the settings and make it so the chat log doesn't show anything dealing with player chats (Yell, Shout, Say, etc) and then it will only show NPC/Event Dialog and Battle Dialog.

While not getting rid of it, it will still let you see all the NPC stuff and not have to deal with chat you don't want to see. Then you can just put them back in the log at a later time when you want.
