Marauder Tank NoobFollow

Noob question since I generally played the mage/healing classes in FFXI, I decided to give the tank classes a try. My son thought big axes looked cool so I started with Marauder.

I'm around lvl 15 now and am just starting to run duties. Ran one and didn't feel like I did a solid job. My big question, is should I worry about pulling mobs off of Carby or just let him take the beating? I don't know anything about that class so I wasn't sure if I needed to control hate on Carby.

You don't need too, as long as the ACN can take care of Carby.

As for what you should do, at that level, start with Tomahawk and then line up the mobs so they can all be hit by Overpower. Use 2-4 Overpowers, whatever you're comfy with, and then begin hitting your primary target with your normal sequence. Keep Maim up if you can, as well as Fracture, but prioritize Heavy Swing > Skull Sunder. Use the in-game symbol marking option to designate primary target with a 1, secondary with a 2, etc. That should help clear things up a lot.

also kind of a noob question. But what if you run out of TP?

Quor's post was great for general tank info...

Adding to it...TP management shouldn't be too much of an issue unless you get into larger fights that last several minutes. The abilities that eat your TP are Overpower and Tomahawk. If you do Heavy Swing -> Skull Sunder or toss in Maim/Fracture, the TP regen will stay pretty close to your TP usage.

With Tomahawk, I use it to do the initial pull, and to grab any adds or mobs that slip away from my hate. I don't use it as part of my normal rotation.

With Overpower...I use it 2-4 times as Quor said to start the fight, but use Flash (GLD lvl 8) about once a mob gets to 25%-40% just to help with keeping hate locked. Unless you're spamming Overpower constantly...you should be okay with TP.

If you do run out, there's not much you can do other than back off and let it regen a bit...and prioritize what you need it for. Maybe it's 100 for Overpower, maybe it's just 70 for Heavy Swing followed by Skull Sunder. Situational. Having Flash as a backup hate source helps.

If you're running out of TP on trash mobs, take a look at how you're using your TP. For the most part you won't need to dip past about 50% unless you have to scramble a bit.

Flash is a GLA skill, just so people don't get confused :)

otherwise mostly agree with the info here, make sure you keep your mobs organized and you should be fine
