Very cool news! I had been wondering when this app would come out, and I'm happy to see that it has. So far, the app seems pretty good. For a start, at least. While the various ZAM-related sites provide more information currently than the app, I'm sure it'll be updated and improved. I look forward to seeing how it changes as time goes by.

One of the nice things it does is it allows you to log into your account and view your character data, which is nice. I hope I'm right about this, but it looks like you STAY logged in even after closing the app entirely or turning your iDevice on and off. This includes those, like me, who use a security token. It probably uses the login information to give the app permission to access your account without having to actually login each and every time. You do have the option of manually logging out, of course. Obviously, I do not know yet if it eventually logs you out anyway, but assuming it doesn't, not having to login each time is a huge plus for me so that I don't have to carry my token around everywhere, which I don't like doing. If I notice anything different or find out anything different, I'll edit my post.

Last, it's able to open the security token app for you if you ever need to for some reason (I use a physical token myself).

One of the things I really like is that it shows you a list of NPCs who sell an item, as well as where its dropped or what quest its from.

Description

FINAL FANTASY XIV: Libra Eorzea is an application to support your adventuring even when you're on the go.

By logging in with a Square Enix account, you can view details on your in game character. You can also view your friend list, free company, and linkshells. Even if you have no internet connection, you can still access the application's database for details on all the game's items, quests, and achievements. The information you need will always be at your finger tips.

* This application cannot be used to play FINAL FANTASY XIV. For more details, please visit the official website (www.finalfantasyxiv.com).

Features

- Game Database (Available Offline)
The database includes items, quests, quest NPCs, shops, and enemies, just to name a few categories. Players can look up detailed information on item locations, enemy drops, quest rewards, and more.

- Character Profiles (Only Available for FFXIV Players)
Players can view basic information on their characters. In addition, friend lists, linkshell member lists, and free company member lists will also be available. When browsing any of these lists, you can examine the details of each character, including the gear they are equipped with. Selecting a piece of gear takes you to its entry in the application's database, where you can learn how it can be obtained.

* Future updates will introduce additional database categories and other useful features.

Right now, it's mostly, shall we say, an information broker. It tells you where items are sold at, what quests provide it (as OnyxFFXI said), armors, weapons, enemies, NPC lists, and so on, as well as providing you with the ability to login and look at your characters, though it is not required to do so to use the app. The app has lots of potential for growth and I can see it being quite handy IF it gets support. Right now, it's a convenient little helper. Smiley: smile And free!

Edit: Well, what nonameoflevi said. :)

It's basically the lodestone, but less functionality. Kind of underwhelming. Hopefully they will improve it.

I wonder when developers will start to realize or care that more people have Android than iPhone.

From the release page:

Q: Are there plans for an Android version of Libra Eorzea?

A: The Android version of FINAL FANTASY XIV: Libra Eorzea is currently in development, with the release date to be announced as soon as it is available. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.

So, its coming.

You can't see Apple saying 'We want ours first'? Well, I sure the hell can.

EDIT: Not to mention, they are usually open to footing some of the bill for that 'exclusivity'.

They need to do something, their iPhone 5S looks utterly disappointing (not to mention any details on the battery were absent yesterday), and the 5C is basically an iPhone 5 for the same price.

What staggers me is that they'll sell millions of them too.
