Woo! Ding 50!

Was in the middle of the huge Malboro room in Aurum Vale last night and got my level partway through the battle.

I've never played a tank to level cap in any MMO but I have to say that I've had so much fun doing it in 14. Really loving this game and glad SE turned it around and made it so much better.

Looking forward to the end game dungeons :) Hope you all are enjoying the class/job as much as I am!

Keep us updated on special things that happen or strategies that become more apparent in end-game! I'm at level 35 and finding out new things every time I play.

Sure thing!

I think the one thing I wish I had remembered to do while I leveled up were my job quests. I was so focused on running dungeons and doing quests I forgot to go back and talk to the guy. There's an ability called Shield Oath that's REALLY helpful in parties. Here's a link to what it does: http://www.ffxivinfo.com/job/paladin.php?ability=shield-oath

But the most important thing I've learned to do is mark all of the targets before a pull (or during, if you get adds). I have the numbered markers assigned to alt+1, alt+2, etc. As long as DPS follow the numbers and mages sleep the targets, it really makes for an efficient party.

I've also found it more efficient to dodge AOE attacks rather than try to stun the enemies. A lot of times it gets resisted and I can't rely on it 100%. Also, if you're in the middle of a cone attack it's almost always more efficient to simply run THROUGH the enemy rather than around it.

Those are just some tips I can share based on what I've seen so far. Hope it helps!

Great tips! I have indeed been keeping up on my Job quests, I do have macros set up to mark mobs, but on ps3 targeting can be a total pain! So I only use pre-marking when I feel its important. Instead, I made this macro:

Line 1: /mk off <t>
Line 2: /action auto-attack <t>
Line 3: /wait 1
Line 4: /mk cross <t>
Line 5: /party {{ASSIST ME on <t> }} || Marked with "X" ||

This removes the mark from the mob I'm targeting, turns on auto attack, gives me 1 second to pop FB and almost have SB ready, then marks the target with "X" and tells my party to assist me on that target. This way, I don't waste 10 seconds struggling to target things to mark around a corner before a fight, I just slap an X on the thing I want the DPS attacking, and go about my enmity generation as usually. I find this lets me go faster than marking each, and allows me to change which mob I want dead on the fly.

And great tip on the AE attacks, it goes well in conjunction with getting as close to the mob as you can so that you can just make a few short steps forward instead of 5 to the side to avoid those rectangle AEs!
